How to Fix the Outlook Error - We Couldn't Create the Outlook Data File

    Last week I was helping a colleague set up her business email account that she purchased through NameCheap in Outlook. I ran into a couple of issues, but the one that seemed to be holding us up the most was this "We couldn't create the Outlook data file..." error.
    The error states "Make sure the disk you're saving to isn't full or write-protected and that the file isn't being used."
    The thing is she had plenty of space on her disk and I highly doubted that the disk was write-protected.
    I did some research and found that the best way to deal with this error is to close down Microsoft Outlook, and then go and use the Windows Key + the R key to open up the Run Menu. Once the Run Menu is open type:
    outook.exe /safe
    and then hit enter.
    This will open up Outlook in Safe mode and you will then be able to add the account without any issues with this error popping up.

    I had been trying to configure SMTP ports, imap, etc. for about 1 hour and in the end the simplest thing worked, you are the best

    I don't normally comment but tried this a few times last year and then an hour today and it failed each time, before finding this video and it worked within seconds. Thanks for helping me out. I just needed to see my Gmail offline and be able to delete large amounts of emails and then sync back. Cheers

    Thank you so much for posting this. I am fairly computer literate and could not figure this out. I booted my system in safe mode and deleted all the ost files which did not work. Your solution is so simple. WHY doesn’t Microsoft have this on their site. They should pay you!

      You are so very welcome. I am right there with you as far as being fairly computer literate, but there is still SO MUCH I don't know. I agree that this solution should be easier to find on Microsoft's website. I believe I first learned about this YEARS ago when I was doing IT Support and as I was struggling with this same issue again I was like... wasn't there a way to deal with this.... Oh yeah, I'm pretty sure if I start Outlook up in Safe Mode it will take care of this.

    Mate, I tried initially setting up that additional email 8 times without success. I contacted Microsoft, they tossed me to GoDaddy.. GoDaddy tossed me to Microsoft. I eventually had to setup an Office 365 through GoDaddy to get an email to work, and i wasn't impressed. I just came across your video, i thought to give it a shot.. It WORKED.. many thanks
