Deagan Electravibes 515 Demonstration Vintage Electric Vibraphone

Steve demonstrates our rare Deagan Electravibe 515 instrument at Vintage Keys Studio. This dates from 1972.
Each metal bar has a piezo pickup glued to its underside, and they are all wired to a loom that exits via a standard unbalanced jack. The 'vibraphone sound' is achieved by running the output through an external (originally integral... see video) preamp and tremolo effect. Here we are using an old Schaller tremolo pedal.
The top of the instrument is miked in an X / Y configuration with two Oktava MK012 condensers with cardioid capsules.
