    Alot of people talk about sore hocks and I do think Sore Hocks are more genetic then flooring and Wire cages can be fine! The BIGGEST reason why I don't like wire cages is because they are small and wire would get yucky over time and walking on wire all day doesn't seem like the best but whatever floats your boat.

    For people saying about rabbits outside/hutches.
    Hutches are all good and well but you need to supervise them and take them in at night if you leave them out late in the summer, I also strongly recommend that you don’t use these as a permanent space for your bunny and their main living area should be indoors.
    Never I repeat NEVER leave your bunny overnight, who knows what’s out there, a fox could come along and eat your rabbit whole.
    I also don’t recommend pet store hutches, the wood just rots away and gets moldy.
    I have a custom made 6 foot by 8 foot cage which is great when the weather is dry.
    My grandad put roofing felt on it because the people who made it used normal wood and it got moldy so we removed that and re did the roof.
    So yeah, hutches are fine but always think before you get one, I’ve got a video up on the hutch if anyone’s interested.

    My bunny currently has a diy cage that's 8 sq ft with 2 sq ft being her litter. That's the biggest cage I had room for previously but my room was bunny proofed so she could come out and play. Now I moved and my room technically is in the basement so it's not safe for her to come out so I just bought more cage wire and I'm going to be building a 24 sq ft cage with lots of large doors so I'm able to open it up and step in to sit with her. I know she's going to appreciate it a lot. Poor baby has been through a lot because of the unexpected move and everything and I can't wait to make it up to her.

    Every person who says their rabbits were killed by something by being outside didn't have a proper outside habitat for their rabbits and it is their fault something bad happened to them, not because they were outside. I have 8 rabbits in a 10x20 ft run and they are outside all day every day. They are all rescues from people who kept them inside in small cages and they are the happiest they have been in their entire lives. They are completely fenced in with a wire bottom to their run, which is covered in dirt and hay. Each side of their run is one complete piece of fence and they have a large dog igloo and a 72 inch long, two story hutch. They also have a large tarp-type thing over one half of their run so they have constant shade. I live in an area that is heavily populated by every type of animal you can imagine, and not once have I ever been worried about my rabbits. They were meant to be outside.

      I know, its so frusterating how some people like literally tell me to kill myself because i keep my rabbits in an outdoor hutch. It is big enought for both of them and they are loving life. And they have an indoor part of the cage for when it gets cold out. Like they were born in a big snowstorm last year where we got like 16 inches and they survived outside. They get winter coats if you keep them outside in the fall they will prepare themselves for the winter.

      Honestly it is really insensitive to say it is their fault. My bunny recently got grabbed by a stoat, which are incredibly rare here. And I mean rare in that the capitol of my country puts their estimate at 20 total. They only recently returned to my country because the hide in peoples cars and then jump off when they park. I had two hutches for them and a huge outdoor run that had a bottom and a roof against birds of prey and it was secured against cats and dogs, which are the only normal threat around here. I would never even have believed it was a stoat if I didn't see it a couple of days later. One of my neighbors had another person open their hutch early in the morning and let their dog after their bunny. You can never completely prepare for everything.

      I love this comment. I now live in a more rural area (my neighbors from the same landlord have chickens) and I have been doing research in the future about having rabbits outside (my landlords are picky about having animals indoors and I was only cleared having my dog, cat, and hamster because I personally knew a member of their family and they believed me that my animals would cause no damage to the property) but yeah anyways, I've seen a lot of anti keeping rabbits outdoors sort of posts. I believe it's honestly the best way to have rabbits though, aside from maybe free ranging in my spare room which isn't an option for me because my landlords wouldn't be cool with it and I have a cat. I don't want to confine rabbits to a small smelly cage with limited indoor playtime.

  • @jrenee1040
    @jrenee1040 Před 7 lety +3

    Right now my bunny is in an dog x-pen. He quickly outgrew his 30" dog crate within a month, but it worked pretty well for a bit. However I wouldnt recommend it if you don't already have a crate at home. Its not worth buying one just for your rabbit to outgrow it within weeks, with the same amount of money you could get a X-pen. The only thing is you would need to place a large piece of wood at the bottom...
    The X-pen I have is 36" high, and 48" on each side. Which gives my Flemish giant bunny plenty of room. But I still wouldn't recommend a dog crate for any sized rabbit, unless you get the 43" 48" or 54" one. But still, if you have the space go for the x-pen its worth the extra 20 bucks you may spend on the bottom to your set up.

    • @jrenee1040
      @jrenee1040 Před 7 lety +1

      I forgot to add this but the bar spacing on both the crate and pen are 1.6", which was far too big for my bunny (a flemish giant) as young rabbit. He walked right through the openings, if it wasn't covered by a guinea pig play pen I luckily had on hand. By the time he couldn't fit through the openings, he was also too big for the crate in general.

      See I have a mini Rex rabbit and she is perfectly fine outside all year. I call her a all year outside rabbit. It's better to have your rabbit on a year routine like bring them in in winter and out in spring. That's what I do with my other rabbit. But in your case you can get a heating pad or something like that. Just advise. Since I am a kid I would probably want to sneak her inside🐰 but my rabbit that's inside is in our basement where it's still warm. 😄

      My rabbits have been out all their lives during all seasons unless it’s freezing, I feed extra kale and carrots to keep their energy up and fill their cages with plenty of straw and hay, they’re 5 and 7 and I’ve never had a problem over the winter with them

    I got a bunny someone got for Easter they had a tiny cage a hamster couldn't even live in it! When I got her she was horribly out of shape and had poop butt, she is in shape now she has a room (My room) and a big dog kennel with flooring and fluff she is let out during the day and put out at night she's spoiled now!

    We have a hutch outside but we added wire bottom with rubber mats on the bottom and an extra big spot to run on the side
