  • The Cry Baby 535Q is considered to be the pedal that moved things forward in the evolution of the wah. This video explains how it came to be and why it is called the 535Q. There is also a demonstration of the 535Q's wide range of tonal characteristics.

    I bought one of these brand new when they first came out...I will never use ANY other Wah out there. I cracked a battery plate on the bottom and they mailed me three for free just for asking and writing them a personal note. Jim Dunlop and staff are the most user friendly people and are so willing to help...How can you not like that??? Hats off to JD and ALL the great products they are repsonsible for!!!

  • @RJiwatram
    @RJiwatram Před 9 lety +2

    The killer feature of this pedal is the Variable Q, as it's what gives a guitar player his/her choice of what the way will sound like. I found once I found there I wanted the Q, which was a little over half way between the flat and the narrow, the range selector was the next best feature.
    But even with the boost function, I still had that problem like the other dunlop wahs I have, which was the effect really was a middle part of the pedal sweep, and limited to what pickups I have selected, and where I played on the neck.
    My Vox Big Bad Wah, doesn't have that problem, anywhere along the sweep of the pedal, i'm good, and I can play almost everywhere on the guitar. But then the problem is I wish I had the variable Q and a greater range selector than the two options in Wah 2 mode of the Big Bad Wah.
    I think the best wah would be combining those two pedals, get the full physical sweep of the Vox pedal and the ability to change the Q and range selection of the Dunlop 535Q.

    I traded mine with my BC Rich platinum and an old school rocktech distortion pedal for a Epiphone LP standard pro. it didnt a have a scratch on it, it was like someone bought it and just put it in the closet and never played it! the pawn shop owner didnt know what he had, he looked at me funny and asked " you want to trade all this for that one guitar"? I said yep! he had it priced for $225 and I looked it up and they were going for around $5-600. and so I jumped on it! I felt kinda bad because he didnt know what he had. and I took advantage of it. but I love it! its my no. 1 guitar. next to my BC Rich bronze.

    My old 1994 GCB95 Crybaby has been making electrical noises a bit the last time I used it. After reading an email I got today, I got one today. I have not even tried it out yet but, I've read the documentation it came with. It is about time I got myself a new 535Q. A year ago I noticed I posted on here saying this would be my next wah. I have a good feeling about this one. I'm trying to get the Edgar Winter funk wah tone. I would also like the early Grand Funk wah tone.

    This will be my next one. I have a 1994 GCB-95 which works good after I took out a plastic washer from the inside. The 535Q sounds good. I appreciate being able to adjust the Q as well as the 15 db boost. I feel Dunlop did a good demo on these also.

    También lo tengo y está genial. Se lleva de maravilla con señal limpia y overdrives; con distorsiones high gain, mete un poco de ruido y hay que ecualizarlo bien para que no te coma los graves. Por cierto, además de los 5 rangos de wah, tiene control de tono (más que nada para los agudos), de volúmen y un boost.

    @ncrealtor911 it's a good feature but unfortunatly with that pedal you wouldn't be able to use it in a stationary position to filter your tone

  •  Před 13 lety

    I didn't know that 535Q offers the possibility to shape the tone in a way that we can get Hendrix's tone as well as Cantrell's. Now I'm torn apart between buying this, Jerry Cantrell Signature Wah, Dimebag Darrell Signature Wah or TC Electronic's Gull which operates on a different logic but equally shapeable :/

  • @Mikee535

    my review: good wah sound my only issue, is when this is next to my pedal power supply the wah has a nasty hum when engaged. took me awhile to figure it out, other pedals do not have this issue. the wah has to be about 6 inches away from the pedal psu to not hum.
    my supply is located under the pedal board, the wah was almost right on top of the supply, off to the right side. so either the wah or the supply could be shielded better. They both are in metal enclosures.

    For some reason it made my 3rd string (6 string electric) totally over-powering (literally 2x as loud as the other strings).

    • @SwingingCreeper
      @SwingingCreeper Před 10 lety +1

      Yes and no. It does have a DPDT switch but there are 2 resistors, one on the input and one on the output. They are designated R41 and R42. Some folks yank one or both. They are there so you don't get a "pop" when you engage the pedal. If your concerned about "fuzz" friendly wahs check Wilson Effects or RMC wahs since they have a "fuzz friendly" buffer already built in so the wah and fuzz pedal (specifically germanium based fuzz) will interact better.

      Not fuzz friendly,- BAD Achilles Heel for a wah, and an issue Dunlop really need to address.That this is obviously not a big hindrance to sales is perplexing,- and prob assures they never will pursue the inexpensive solution.Pity,- otherwise sounds great.

      The RANGE is adjustable from minimum to maximum but the max is probably the same or similar to the max on a standard Cry Baby. It depends on if they both use the same inductor or not.

Then tried it again a day later and for some reason, when it's not engaged, it completely cuts the signal to the amp so can't hear anything and when it's engaged, the signal is turned on but it won't wah at all, tried the various knobs but nothing works. @@Slevinlobell Hey Daryl, in my case it was real simple, basically, the way I had it set up on my board, it wasn't getting any power at all so I guess what I would do in your case is just make sure it is getting power (batteries or adapter). If it's a more complex chain see if it works on its own with just a guitar and an amp. Good luck, hope it helps!
