0:22 - Kirk Hammett's pedal board
+Shining Trapezoid Well literally i think kirk's pedal board is like that because he doesnt do patch/pedal switching himself so probably all he sees are wahs.
Hahahaah ! Dude you made my night
Kirk Wahmett
Wahtallica
So many meme
swear that beard is alive
Is that a silver Telecaster?
Why Did You Steal Kirk Hammett's Pedalboard?
why did you steal Shining Trapezoid's joke?
"They can't see, all you wanna lend"
Indeed.
I really hate guitar players doing comparisons. They play different riffs on each pedal to show how cool and versatile they are instead of doing exactly the same thing on each pedal so we can tell what the dang pedals can do. As a scientist and former loud speaker driver engineer, I would record a suitable riff/tune/sample (whatever you want to call it) and then run the exact same recording through each pedal so you could compare apples to apples. No extra effects like echo or fuzz added to confuse the issue. This is not aimed at this particular presenter; I have been watching comparison videos all day and NONE of the guitar players even tried to play the same tune on each pedal. I have wasted hours on useless "comparisons" that don't compare.
I hear you man I know exactly what you mean that annoys me too when people do that
Yes my friend, but try explaining a control to a lehman.
Nerd.
Wow woa dude thats harsh man this guy worked hard on thos… plus dig it man it didn’t even rain man
@@iLL_Corvo bros calling people lehmen when his name is Urethra Franklin😂 Anyways, any person with a brain has some basic concept of a control group, quit acting like you’re some enlightened scientific genius💀
I've had my 535Q since the mid~ish 90's and it's still a tank. I originally bought it because it was Adam Jones' wah of choice for the Aenma album.
I want to hear them all at once.
We need a side by side comparison of these signature models: Jerry Cantrell, Slash, Van Halen, Dimebag, Kirk Hammett, and Zakk Wylde. Thanks.
Watch Fluff's wah shootout
I watched that... I normally love his gear demos, but that wah demo he did was terrible.
Cantrell wins it for me. Its such a unique wah.
Nightpick Tom Morello
i have all these pedal.. my favorite list
1.dimebag
2.kirk
3.zakk wylde
4.evh or jarry
My favorite one is the Bass wah, killer tone
Dunlop MC-404 CAE- all day long. And night, too.
Excellent demo, great descriptions/history, and playing
This is a proper demo thank you . I almost stopped watching when you did the Hendrix Wah with distortion only . I can add any of my 20 gain and fizz pedals you have to test a wah semi clean to get a feel for what it is actually doing
Sweetwater or Dunlop: please do a more in depth demo of the bass wah w/ guitar.
+daniel arganda I just bought one today and thats what im looking for now. Its a great wah i use it only for my guitars, its a little harder to use becuase of the auto return
daniel arganda totally agree
"A little bit of distortion," Satan himself comes out and says, "Turn the distortion down!"
This made my day
"I have the single coil selected"
points to a humbucker
MrTrollinglol splited HB
MrTrollinglol I like how he looked at it like whyyyyyyy didI say that?
Michael Veil like you could tell the difference you elitist
Christian Castellanos there is a difference though. A split humbucker sounds like a split [whatever pick up it is]. You can tell the same way you can tell a PAF compared to a more "metal" HB. Does it matter? No, but don't act like no one else can hear it
Got em
THE BASIC GCB95, ALL THE SWEEP OCCURS HALFWAY BACK TOWARDS HELL DOWN POSITION, AFTER THAT NO CHANGE
Totally enjoy THIS GUY!!! “I’m not a scientist... but I play one on TV”!!!🤣🤣🤣 Seriously though he REALLY did help & we had fun learning!!! Thanks!!!
That bass wah sounds filthy and crazy I love it
That bass wah sounds absolutely atrocious...in a good way \m/
Stanky
My favorite it's the HB01 Hell Babe Behringer wah pedal, it's fantastic, sounds great, very light and many features. My cry baby pedal I put it back in its box and put it away.
Fantastic Wah for the price the boost is excellent for soloing
Just can't improve on the original GCB95. Funny they changed it up for the Hendrix model when Hendrix actually used a Vox, which is the same circuitry as the 95. So the real Hendrix model is the 95.
I used to own the early JH-1 wah and I believe its tone is superior to the later models. It looked just like a normal GCB-95 aside for the front nameplate that said Jimi Hendrix Original Thomas Design. People should try to scoop that model up , prob runs cheap and is still easy to mod.I also own (and still use) an older model 535Q (takes two 9V batt / no side switches) that sounds fantastic and has survived hundreds of hours of gigs. Though it takes two batteries, you could still run it on a 9v power source...maybe cuts the headroom a tad but nothing too obvious. My point: GET THE OLDER, WELL USED MODELS! The only real caveat is the fact most of them have buffers but that is a good thing if you run a long effects chain or have a fuzz going first.
Switched to the bass wah years ago. Game changer
Thanks for this video. Never understood why there were so many wahs. Now I know I want a Hendrix wah.
No Cantrell? :(
Thanks for pointing out the differences in heel to toe sweep, what Q point is, and the ins and outs of inductor or not. Useful point to know for greater wahwareness.
Question: Is there any way to reduce the "quackiness" of these wahs?
stratowhore it's just that he stomps it too fast without giving it much time to breathe and he uses the single coil, mine (gcb) wasn't quacky at all with emg 81
You people got issues other than choosing a good wahahaha
The dude is giving info here
I liked the last one the best the Clyde McCoy . It had the nicest “splash” at the toe position . It has a great sweep to it .then I liked the CAE on the yellow Fasel pronounced Fazel .
What does an inductor do, why have it or not?
That last one was sweeeet!
finally - a good wah demo
Would love to hear the bass wah in a funk guitar concept :)
I LOVE that first one. Very funky.
I own the 105Q and I use it with my bass and my guitar, and plays good with both. My main instrument is a bass but I play some guitar too and the thing is great :-D
TheKille22 the 105q is sick on bass with the gain boost on running into a fuzz or overdrive. Mean growl. Love that thing
the third one is killer man, hope to have somebody work the mode switch as I play to make it even wahkier!
I think in terms of signature guitar wahs, Cantrell's just wins it for me man he's killer, all of them are killer there's just something about his, has a nice dark tone to it. If your an Alice fan that thing works wonders.
The Cantrell wah is supposed to very good indeed.
can you do a full demo of the bass wah on guitar!?
Our pals at Sweetwater conveniently side-step further clarification in connection with non-buffered signals, buffered signals, and true signal bypass. Not cool.
I live a good fuzz set mildly into a wah wah . Fuzz first for me especially when rocking volume back . You can get amazing tones this way .
CAE's my pick.
Great showcase and comparison
The Hendrix pedal sounded the best. The thing that lacks with modern wah pedals is that there's no resistance in the physicality of the pedals.
My advice may be to add a thick spring, so that the transition of tone is a more gradular swoop.
But that 105Q sounds pretty insane!!!
Those are my two favorites on the list.
105Q Crybaby Bass Wah sounds exactly like my JAX WAH FUZZ , although JAX has inductor...it has lots of transistors and mucho green chicklet capacitors and vertically mounted resistors- very 'JAPAN' ( In 1985 paid $15 for it from the 'junk bin', though fully operational, in closer to West Hollywood on Sunset ...a guitar store on the SE corner of the block...there were three shops. This one, one a couple doors East, and one across the street on the NW corner. Anyone remember?) BEST hard driving avant-garde pedal ever, FUZZ 2 setting is great through slow vibrato, with/ without wah engaged.
Very nice demo, for the most part. The only issue I have with this demo is that the Distortion you're using seems to suck all of the music out of your tone. It's really cluttered and is lacking clarity. Just my opinion. :)
I don’t get why would he test the first one clean but the second dirty then the third one clean
Awesome... thanks so much, largely for saving a ridiculous amount of research, if not expensive trial and error at worst and for many likely totally out of the question - not possible research
The guy who did this review was great. Nice work my friend.
Thank you man, was helpful for sure. Have to say though, first and last pedal are very similar.
Hendrix or 404 for me i think - cheers! Question: what about that recent Dimebag Wah?
And by the way: nice touch.
Great demo!
Great review and demonstration, thank you!
Just got the 535Q on Amazon for $125. Sending it back. Makes an annoying creaking sound when using the pedal and there's very little noticeable difference in tone when changing the settings. I'm guessing that it's a refurbished unit since it was $25 less than everyone else who sells them.
Grease will fix that issue.
Behringer HellBabe 101 is awesome and it is only $50 check it out. it has a range adjust so you can get any frequency and range you want. and it is optical so you can also adjust the span or sweep speed. a boost switch. the wah on off works as you move the wah it is on. you let go wah is off. simple yet perfect. I have been playing for 20 years and I would take this hellbabe over any crybaby all day. and it weighs 2.6 lbs. the thing is a Brick.
These are great for when you’re writing music for low budget porn.
from the 70's
This guy knows his wahs!
Excellent spokesperson
Awesome job Brian!
very helpful and well done video :) - so I'll keep my original cb95 and my Morley Bass Wah, and evtl get one of those shown in this video ;-) - gtx from the Lake of Constance
Give this guy a raise 👍👍
Ive got a GCB95 and i wish i got something else. The effect is not strong at all. To turn it on youve got to practically jump on it. Only 1/3 of the sweep actually controls any wah sound. Very unhappy with it. Would like a pedal with a STRONG EFFECT.
Clean hendrix pedal dude
Seeing as how the White bass wah doesn't have an on/off switch, can you set it somewhere in the sweep and take your foot off the treadle without the pedal automatically switching off?
No input from Wah,Wah Watson...Wah,Wah Ragin...or Skip Pitts who's shaft wah is one the most iconic sounds of modern music....hmn?
How can you keep a wah from stair-stepping your overtones when using dirt? I've had to choose carefully which dirt pedal I put with my wah, so it doesn't sound like an autotune effect, bringing in overtones by level. I have a red cry baby with the PepTone mod, and it would do that before the mod and still does it with some pedals after the mod. I can get a great voice out of the wah now, but always wondered about this.
+Alan Kaye I would experiment with the effect order
Is the distortion before or after the wahs?
It sounds like it is before, but I'm not 100% sure
Tomás Salvador thats what it sounds like to me too. Wahs have a very "low-fi" sound when behind a drive pedal.
These guys are wrong. This wah goes BEFORE the distortion. You would hear more experimental sounds if it was after the distortion. That Kirk Hammett sound or Jerry Cantrell sound is all wah into distorted amp. And listening to this guy, same thing, distortion after the wah. Conventionally at the origin of wah pedals, You had a distorted amp and you would just stick the wah pedal between the guitar and the amp, because things were simpler then.
I always have a Wah first in my chain when gigging and it works great for me
Thanks for clearing this up. By the way, where did you ever get what looks like a Silver G&L HSS Telecaster?
What? These are American made in Benicia,CA? Sounds like I need one to be in my All American stack. I already got a tube head built in Petaluma, CA (Mesa Boogie Triple rectifier) , and some ehx pedals made In new york. Sweet video!
Hi!! Great video!!
Do you remember the settings used in Cry Baby Bass? Is it before or after distortion? I am using one of these but struggling with the settings...
The dude's got a glue on beard...hahaha!
the bradshaw was sweet
Ill keep my GCB95.
Some guy told be the way they make a Jimi Hendrix Wah is to rotate the pot to cut off some of the high end. True or false?
+James Krys Unknown.
False.
The bass wah!!!
Do a more gradual foot movement of pedal so I can hear the range of the pedal please!
He ain't coming back to do it again...
Can you leave the 105q in the forward position and solo screaming high, or will it shut off on its own?
What do you think about John Petrucci's signature wah?
The fourth petal has a jazzy blues sound
I WANT THAT GUITAR
Yeah that thing is amazing
Love your silver geetar
Finally someone who knows his shit. these pedals can be as unique as the played, even outside the Dunpop collection. There are many companies that have done a great job, some that have not. Dunlop has the most range. If I had to pick one company only,it would have to be Dunlop. I like the way he knows about the internal circutry. I have an old Thompson seried Jimi Hendrix model stamped SPECIAL. it is so old to keep it alive the previous owner put in a new Made in mexico part. I can not rember the correct name for the part afeisel? Mabye. I looked up the price of the part it was $70.00. The pedal souns better than the newer hendrix pedals, or mabye different. Better is subjective. I could tell whenopening it. The circutry was minimal to other pedals. Theonly problem with the older pedals is they need to be cleaned and maintained (More attention). I think they are worth more ina museum than on the street.
Jc 95 crybaby is amazing!!!
Since you like the bass cry baby have you tried the geezer Butler one? I was just looking into the geezer for hitar and ended up watching this video after. Just wondering what ones better if you've used both
Can someone tell me whats the name of that Boost???
What about the Petrucci model?
No Cry Baby "Classic" ! It's the best one. Ever heard of Mike Campbell ? .:)
hello sir. what guitar are u using? It looks like mine but mine just has two PUs
which is closer to zakk sound?
Should have kept making the Andrea's Kisser.
I want one that doesn’t get too harsh on the top end.
Is this the same guy the toured with Les Claypool?
Yes
Best pedalboard ever
Can you use the 535Q Multi on bass????
Hey there. While you certainly can use it on a bass guitar, as a bass player myself I typically would steer you toward the Dunlop CBM105Q Mini Bass Wah:
www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/CrybabyMiniBs--dunlop-cbm105q-cry-baby-bass-mini-wah-pedal
When you use "guitar centric" wah wah's and other fx, you risk losing some of your low end frequencies. The CBM105Q takes low frequencies very well.
Thanks for reaching out!

I like the first one best
Was EHX's Cock Fight Plus not good enough to make the list? I thought it sounded good but I'm not sure if it's the right choice... I like most of their pedals though
This is a Dunlop demo, so they wouldn't be demonstrating pedals from competing brands.
The bass one sounds nasty and I love it.
That’s why I wanna buy it… for guitar
Dunlop gonna be rebranding and remarketing this half-a-century old technology for forever it seems
That's Kirk Hammett pedalboard btw
Didn’t do the best one. The Cantrell?
no Crybaby from Hell???
nope, its the best
Where is the Kirk Hammett Wah?
The question on everybody's mind: "Does the carpet match the drapes?"
Nicola Cappellini underrated comment
The regular crybaby and Clyde McCoy sound about the same
Great ending!
