You might get all the xbox titles on PS but your going to pay a LOT more for them, Plus xbox is still the only platform on the planet where you can sit down , turn-off crossplay and have a game with no wallhacks/damage hacks/aimbots/(often racist and putrid) HWID ban evaders... etc etc the list goes on, but sure keep cancelling it, because it helps the game review business right? And you dont care about cheaters as a reviewer because you never play any one game long enough anyway do you? @thesixth2330 I think his taste in games really affects his reviews. Ralph caught a lot of fire after the Armored Core preview and when Rise of the Ronin previewed he was noticeably more cautious in his language. I think he's being honest at least.
Edit: I didn't word this well. I think he believed Cyberpunk was going to be the next big thing and then the reality of the technical issues hit hard at launch. I don't think he's ever lying to the audience, but everyone has quirky tastes to some things.

The Xbox never recovered from the terrible launch of the Xbox One. Edit: My spaghetti guess is the next Xbox is going to have an open ecosystem that can play PC/Steam games in an attempt to compete with the Steamdeck. It would make sense. The series S is a pretty useful machine for a good price if you turn on the dev mode and turn it into an emulator machine.
I know I switched sides because of that. It felt like a huge bummer seeing all those tv ads at an e3 presentation, like xbox completely lost their marbles.

My Xbox series X has become such a non-factor in my life. I turned it on two weeks ago for the first time in a year and a half just to see if my login info for Disney+ was still saved on it. My PS5 controller was on low battery so I wanted to watch X-Men 97 on the Series X while it charged. Before that the last game I played and completed the year and a half before was fallout New Vegas.
They have the greatest gaming platform already, mate - Windows PC Gaming.

With PC gaming being massively popular nowadays theres 0 reason to own one for many people and it offers nothing regardless I'd want that would be console exclusive. Playstation at least has a lot of asian studios to be different.

Just a clarification on Pierre's graphic of sony x nintendo sales and profit: Sony Sony report gross sales (meaning 100% of the value) and Nintendo report net sales for 3rd party titles (only their 30% cut) which inflates Sony's sales. W/o knowing how much % of the total of either company comes from first vs third party, we can't draw strong conclusions (pierre said so himself)

Also where Sony reports all games sold physically and digitally on the platform, Nintendo doesn't. They don't count games that are released only digitally for whatever reason. So their official total software sales of over 1.2 billion is most definitely quite a bit higher since a great majority of indie game and smaller titles are only released digitally. Not counting whatever that total extra sales might be, 1st party party games only account for roughly 45-50% of total software sold and not the 80-90% people love to throw around.
I honestly don't think sony needs spiderman 2 for 300 million or horizon for 200 million. I don't even play those games and I love my ps5

I feel you Ralph. Went to see my mum in Australia from the UK ... Dear God what a journey. I always remember when the plane reached north Australia and I checked the time to land in Melbourne (thinking it wouldn't be long, like an hour...) ... and holy Jesus, another 5 hours later. Crazy trip, but worth it... especially on my first night I almost walked into a Red Back Spider dangling from the ceiling. Glad you got back home safe to do more of what you do best.

While over I went to see my grandfather, who's now approaching 97, and my aunt drove me and my brother from our mum's to my grandfather's home. 12 hour journey ... but this is just typical for Australians making long treks. But really worth visiting as it's a stunning place to see. Just make sure you drive, as transports is dire outside the big cities!
@@paddy1505 I imagine as someone in the UK it's a bit of a shock. People from the UK who visit the US deal with the same thing. There are a dozen or so individual states that are bigger than the whole of the UK. Driving coast to coast takes something like 40 hours (not counting Alaska)

Just a thought here but "Sony's games take more money to make" is not the whole story behind the disparity between them and Nintendo. Breath of the Wild cost something like a hundred million dollars to make. Sony pays it's CEOs more, and pays more in dividends and stock buybacks than Nintendo does. They show less earnings because they are literally paying themselves more and calling it operating costs.
Nintendo added insult to injury on Xbox. Microsoft thought they were going to buy Nintendo when they can't even buy themselves out of 3rd place.

It is expected Xbox console demand would be reduced as soon as they committed to putting all their games on PC a few years ago. My worry is they continue to use the consequences of their decision to justify why they should be allowed to buy publishers. To get away with buying ABK, they touted their incompetence (under oath, no less) and their low market share. Those things are likely to continue and their market share will drop further when they go multiplatform, so it can be used as justification again in the future.
Dont forget most of the Xbox business is ABK and Bethesda which were already multi-platform prior to Microsoft's plan to buy their way to the top, so restoring the status quo is not creating additional revenue for anything other than Xbox Studios games that were only ever on Xbox. Game Pass cratering game sales on Xbox makes going multi-platform a necessity, particularly because ABK and Bethesda will also lose sales to Game Pass when at least the latter previously was not.

As a PC gamer I purchased a XBSX for the lounge as I can run GamePass on both never really having to spend money on a console game as such. I don't think its a PC thing, if you have the money to buy a decent rig people do that, otherwise you choose your console poison.
In regards to COD going to gamepass. The only thing I can see that would get them to do it would be FOMO. If people start to play it at launch on gamepass ("yay I don't have to play full price for COD now") I imagine a lot of people will fall off the game. But I also believe a lot of people come back to COD every so often, maybe to do with seasonal content, but they can't just hop back into the game... they don't own a copy. So they will have to keep subscribing to gamepass. Plus if they have bought any microtransactions, in the game, they are locked in even more.
Pc and ps5 is the go to combo for me. Also a switch.
I wonder how long until game discs are gone and then how long after that before governments force publishers to make sure digital games are always available or they're forced to become something along the lines of public domain at some point and hopefully that works backward for all older games. If there's anything that is true in this world, fans will keep games alive far better than the publishers that release them. Also, the new AC game's controversy aside, why is anyone even considering buying it? Remember how everyone got mad at Ubisoft saying we should get used to not owning our games? Make Ubisoft get used to not having you as a customer...

I agree. I live in a remote mountain town that I can now only purchase a physical copy by road tripping out of the mountains 60-200miles or order off of Amazon or other online retailer and wait almost a week to receive it. Digital is much easier even if it makes me feel unappreciated and underrepresented. I also have periods of time with no Internet access due to weather and weakness of infrastructure during storms. This current market trend is making my enjoyment of gaming more difficult. Then there's also the fact that my small mountain town doesn't carry the purchasing power of other large cities in my state that have way more reliable Internet and plenty of physical stores. I lose, or I lose, there's no other option, so I suffer digital, and it really sucks...

That's the reason I still buy physical games because honestly I don't believe that the current or potential upcoming government will vote in favor of adding protections,
I would love it if there was laws that made it to where digital media is protected in the way that physical media is because no one can come in your house and just take your Bucky O'Hare box collection, and that way you don't have to worry about if you bought any digital shows if it's going to happen like Discovery did with everything that was on PlayStation, or if a game you bought is going to be pulled away like how Ubisoft did with the crew.

@@UnsaidHealer I loved my first playthrough of elden ring as it brought back my child like wonder, so it felt so refreshing and amazing. None of fromsoft other games did that for me... but to be fair, elden ring has like no replayability at all. Outside of challenge runs... where fromsofts other games have a shit ton of replayability... I'm more willing to replay the dark souls games than elden ring. But when it comes to first playthroughs I think elden ring is the beat fromsoft game.
I think it lived, and surpassed the hype... But it's just not a good repayable game outside of challenging runs with/without mods.

Please gaming community buy discs for games. It keeps the value, when the servers are turned off you still can play the game, you can resell it and use that money to buy other cool and expensive games, if you love the game its cool to have the artwork etc.

Well then this is the last generation where spending my money in the industry’s general direction is an expectation.
People fly off the handle when movies and games get pinched from reality, yet people keep driving the industry straight into the gaping maw where that can easily happen. Convenience or control, you can’t have both.
Well Switch 2 will likely still have game card slot. Sony and Microsoft both are ditchign teh disk drive in the midgen upgrades to ease us into Diskless PS7 (not trying to pretend there will be Xbox console next gen).
Worst part is that all the content creators go with "discless future" "its inevitable" instead of having hard stance and push back on it as a comunity.. there is not a single reason to why its "inevitable" but corpost wanting more money..
If I can't buy physical games on my new console, I can still buy them for my old ones. I'll be mad when all retro gaming costs more than new crap, it's already dumb expensive for anything you actually want. (Pokemon Gold is $400)
If physicals disappear. Itll be the last generation I buy a console. Ive been collecting retro physicals lately and will have a backlog to sustain me for a lifetime hopefully.

The one feature I never wanna live without again is Quick Resume on Xbox. Switching between games takes seconds and you're right into the action. I hope something likes this comes to PC or Playstation.

Wow 77% of Playstation game sales are digital now? That is far higher than I would have guessed, I still buy physical though so that's probably why I think that.
Those figures are juiced because the 'digital' game sales include DLC, cosmetics, and IG currency/microtransactions; additionally, it doesn't factor releases that are purely digital only. Per the Insomniac leaks, most of the proper game releases even in 2023 saw a split that was closer to 60-70% favoring physical over digital.

I have a feeling that physical games are getting more popular again, but I will never understand how people are willing to buy their games digitally on a console if you can get a physical copy of a game much cheaper and sell it if you don't like it.

Despite Spencer’s baffling comments, XBox needs great exclusive content. For both the platform, the console, and Game Pass. Players only care about the games and if controversies at Nintendo and Sony that have popped up over the gen prove anything, it’s that players will forgive just about anything if they like your games. I just don’t buy that ‘the botched launch of the One is the reason XBox is here’. They forgot the core tenets, for better or worse, of what makes a successful console platform. Exclusives. Both first and third party content you can’t get anywhere else. Sony remembered and it’s why they pad out lighter first party schedules with high tier third party exclusives and second party exclusives.
COD on Game Pass would make a lot more sense if XBox had a solid foundation of exclusive content. It’s what drove people to Netflix over cable back in the day, among other things, and I can’t believe XBox have just overlooked this. Further bringing the few games they do have to PS5 all but dooms the brand and they might as well shut down Game Pass now. They are not even leveraging the back catalogues of the IP’s they do have which makes me wonder what they are even doing. The old COD games should have been up there immediately, at least the campaigns as people would love to revisit those and COD titles don’t go on sale a lot and never really dropped their launch msrp. Also, having Bethesda and Zenimax’s back catalogue on Game Pass, and no other service, would be an actual draw. But instead they’ve brought every single Bethesda title over to PS Plus, and more come over all the time even as recently as a couple months ago. So they don’t have many first party exclusives, they don’t seem to have much interest in second or third party exclusives, they don’t leverage the back catalogue of the studios they have purchased for a unique value proposition for GP, and it’s not hard to see why they are struggling. PS Plus is barely below Game Pass at this point, with Sony only lacking day and date, but given their catalogue and the fact that you can every single Sony first party title from this gen and last, save for very recent releases, and it is not the obvious choice and GP win it might seem for people who don’t want multiple services or platforms. They seem to have forgotten everything that made the 360 so successful and what made Netflix successful. They are teetering on the edge here and if Nadella and crew are calling the shots they just may sink XBox as a platform for real. Sure they’ll still exist as a publisher, but it seems like they’re doing everything in their power to kill XBox as a platform. Further shooting themselves in the foot because I love the XBox platform, although I play mostly on PC and PS5 now, but I will never purchase a game on XBox anytime soon because their future is so flimsy. If they don’t make consoles for many more gens, what happens to all my games. It’s just not worth it outside of some 360 era back compat titles when I see them on sale. I do not know why these things are not obvious to them. I get trying to push to be the first on the block for service gaming, but they’re not even doing that right seemingly.
I mostly agree but don't think Microsoft forgot about the importance of exclusives. I think that was their preferred strategy for this generation, but those games either don't exist or have been mediocre.
Halo Infinite, Fable, Avowed, Forza, Everwild, Perfect Dark, Hellblade 2. If you exclude the titles they acquired through Bethesda and Activision, it's almost unbelievable how few potential system-selling titles Microsoft had lined up for the current gen. Many of those still haven't released, and too many of the ones that did were average games. In my opinion, Microsoft acquiring Activision and Bethesda was an admission that Microsoft Games Studios couldn't deliver. I don't think any of this is going according to plan.

scalpers had a huge impact I feel on the PS5's games being played/recognized. For example, apparently Returnal is a fucking great game but NOBODY COULD PLAY IT. I think if more people got to actually play it and give out their thoughts of the game and spread it through word of mouth to their friends who would also have a PS5 (hypothetically at the time when it came out) then I think PS5 would have had a better reputation, and "PS5 has no games" maybe could have been averted.

The problem I've had is that following the inital releases of stuff like Returnal and Demon's Souls remake, there's been very little of interest that is exclusive to the PS5. I expect that GoW2 and Spider-Man 2 will get PC ports in the next few years, alongside third party exclusives like FFXVI and FFVII Rebirth
Definitely Ubi's rendition of Yasuke is not the first to be a playable character. I don't know if it was the first, but Samurai Warriors 5 has playable Yasuke (came out in 2021). Great show as always, btw!
Uh, System Shock also came out this week for consoles. I finally have my copy which I almost couldn't find because none of the stores had them on the shelves or was still in transit the day of release. Never had this much trouble finding a copy of a game.

To correct you, Yasuke is also a playable character in Tecmo Koei's 'Samurai Warriors 5' (2021). He is also 'Employed by Nobunaga as a Samurai.' according to his official character description.

Ubisoft has been blacklisted from my gaming library forever.
Just as employees are viewed as easily replaceable disposable resources, I believe publishers view entire studios the same way. Buy or open some new studios, have them release some games, shut them down to "save" money when a studio fails to produce the desired profit growth, then restart the loop with the next studio acquisition.

It's surprising to me that Xbox though they could get near the level of PlayStation with almost no marketing. That is the main reason PlayStation has been selling so much. They spend millions on marketing for their console and exclusives, meanwhile Xbox is releasing Hellblade II and everyone on twitter was surprised by the fact the game is already out.

No gamer was unaware of the ground breaking new shooter on the brand new box.
Minecraft became a household name the world over from content on CZcams, not ads on CZcams.
The gaming corpos have long forgotten just how strong a boon for selling something exciting people to they point they sing it's praises to others is.
I think there's alot of misunderstanding of how Xbox market. Given they expect a good chunk of their players through Gamepass there's a very different equation to how much marketing is economical to them, but also when to market.
What we see from Xbox is lots of advertising for their games (especially larger ones) in the week or so leading up to launch, but especially on launch day and the immediate aftermath. Given that they're trying to drive engagement as much if not more than individual sales. It's a different prospect that Sony, who are doing longer more sustained marketing campaigns. It gets them more sales, but they NEED more sales, as its their nlonly revenue source for their games, and because their games generally have huge budgets, further compounded by the huge marketing budgets. At the other end of the scale, Hellblade 2 for example will expect most of it's players on Gamepass and minimal sales. It was blnever going to be a mega seller, even with Sony level marketing as it's a smaller and niche-r game. It also doesn't need to be, as it's from a much much smaller team than those aforementioned Sony teams. As such, spending huge amounts on marketing would probably just hurt the games overall profit for Xbox.

Sony is so goddam stupid. Because Helldivers 2 was a good game and NOT a predatory live service nightmare it became a viral hit. That doesn't mean the lesson should be "go harder on live services!" The lesson should be "treat players right and you will be rewarded," one that they really should have learned after we won our war against Sony over PSN linking.
I think the lesson should be "launch games on PC day and date with the Playstation", because Helldivers doing that was a huge part of its success. It wouldn't have had a fraction of the footprint in the gaming zeitgeist had it been piecemealed on console first then PC later.
Suits never learn the right lesson.
lesson is make games fun and detailed that players aren't nagged about in-game spending and instead choose to do it deliberately. that way we tell all our friends to buy the game.

Realistically you just need a Switch and a PC, unless you care about PS5 exclusives, many of which are coming to PC anyway.
@@BBkeeper To be honest, I regret buying my PS5 due to the lack of interesting exclusives. The last PS5 exclusive I bought was FFXV last year and was also underwhelmed by it being sub 60 fps even in the performance mode. I think Demon's Souls remake is the only game on PS5 that I love that I cant play elsewhere at this point.

Hey Ralph, just wanted to say thanks for not focusing on the AC: Shadows drama too much. As an Asian man who does feel somewhat slighted by Ubisoft choosing not to represent this demographic but not opposed to the move from a creative standpoint, it feels rough to be stuck between people using us as a shield for racism against Yasuke, and people throwing us under the bus to get at said racists. I was actually dreading the responses from my favourite content creators doing the same, so much appreciate the tact you showed here! :)
I'm of the mind that Ubisoft should've just used this opportunity to make Naoe the sole player character and maybe included Yasuke as a supporting character in the story.
They have never had the confidence to do so in the past, they have always included a male option whenever there's a female player character. But it wouldn't have stepped into the realm of treading on Japanese representation and it would've differentiated it from Ghost of Tsushima.
I think I will play the Samurai game that has actual Japanese men as a playable character. You know, the only recognised gender and nationality for a Samurai. A shinobi and a foreign servant are not samurai. I hope the upcoming Blade game is a asian to make up for this transgression.
