The point is: Elder Kai had ALREADY said the fusion would be permanent, (Of course he wasn’t aware it wouldn’t be permanent for mortals), THEN, after saying that, he says the fusion can only be done once a lifetime, therefore, he’s referring to the fact that they can’t fuse again while fused.

Because I can imagine like, anything above 6 would be insane I'm a Steven Universe kid, and I grew up thinking about how Fusions were like relationships and how its important to be in-sync with your fusion partner in more ways than one I know this isn't the same thing, but I guess I'd just feel concerned if a problematic amount of people decided to fuse with each other And what would happen when the fusion time ran out? Would the singular fusion would just suddenly pop out of existance and into a pile of people they were composed of? Or would the fusions seperate one at a time?
Fusions in dragonball are new people, not just 7 sentient people haphazardly glued together, it's one individual person with their own individuality born of multiple people, it's more like actual procreation than some SU forced space rock orgy.
In SU, fusion are explained as relationship, in DB fusion are more off the fruit of this relationship, a new being, that make fusion of more people potentially safer and more ethic than in SU, but still, it would need super cooperation from everyone involved with every other person to create this fusion, there are no chance for persons involved to get out of balance and split from the fusion before time runs out.
Tbh. This would be a nice direction they could take in the manga, instead of continuing to get more over the top new transformations, it would be cool if they went back to fusions instead and try new stuff like this

For someone like Future Trunks, who technically is of a Kai's position as he was made an apprentice (now a full Kai by virtue of being the only one left with any position), the fusion would be both once in a lifetime and permanent.
Well considering that they eventually explain that the potara only last a certain amount of time, and they can unfused. Not to mention the ear rings they got was from old kai, who was already fused with a witch... so yes more then one can fuse with them

I remember we had these convos as kids. A while back, i saw a creator experiment with this. They used a multiverse concept where the unknown antagonist was using a power that would subject already powerful villains in exchange for power that would rival the highest tiers of mortal characters in the series. This Antagonist has also caused rifts in the universe, which led to Omega Sheron fighting 1 Vegito and 1 Gogeta in the HTC. Both also had a minor power boost, but needed to fuse via Potara earrings to form Gogito. I found it exciting, but of course, power scaling and just plot would have to get CRAZY to even get to that point.
So funny back then it was also stated that 1 Hour of Waiting was needed after Fusion wore off for the Dance, because otherwise Fusing again wasn't gonna Work
Makes you think of you can fuse over 999 people with the dance then fuse that one with 1 Supreme Kai to make a 1000 person permanent fusion, I'd call it.
