    Ok just a couple points for anyone who doesn't know gen1 very well:
    -EV's do not exist. Instead it's a Stat xp system(not going to go in depth with this you can look it up)
    -Crits are based off of a pokemons BASE speed Stat. The equation is [base speed/512]
    -There are no abilities in this gen
    -There are no held items in this gen
    -there is a bug that can allow ANY attack to miss even if it has "100%" accuracy. Except for swift(there's is a 1/256 chance an attack misses)
    -Any one hit KO move will always miss if the pokemon who uses the attack has a lower speed than the opposing pokemon, even if you use accuracy increasing items.
    -Since he went with bulbasaur, as soon as he gets toxic leech seed he could become a God lol. In gen1 toxic and leech seed run off the same damage counter.
    So when toxic starts building up leech seed will start doing the same damage and thus heal more.
    -If a pokemon gets hit with toxic, if the player switchs the pokemon out it resets the toxic to only do regular poison damage for the remainder of the battle.
    -Crits ignore all Stat buffs and opposing Pokémon Stat buffs/debuffs.
    -Focus energy actually lowers the pokemons crit chance instead of raising it.
    -The badge boost glitch raises a pokemons stats by 12.5% every time a buff/debuff is applied(EX: having all badges, if you use harden not only will your def be raised, but your attack, speed, and special will raise. If you get hit with tail whip, your def will drop but your att, speed, and special will rise.)
    -"It's super effective!/It's not very effective..." there is a bug that, when using a move, the game only checks the second typing of dual type mon's that will show this message but will be doing neutral damage if applicable.
    -When a pokemon uses Bide if you use an attacking move 1st turn, and then use a status move, like growl, the damage from the 1st turn will be applied to the second turn thus adding more damage.
    -Counter only works if hit by a normal or fighting move.
    There's a lot more to gen1 bugs but I just put these since chat kept asking/making comments about these points.

    • @scragar
      @scragar Před 2 lety +30

      Just FYI regqrding the second type messaging, that's not quite accurate.
      If type 1 has a message(super/not very effective) and type 2 doesn't it'll still display the first message.
      The messages are overwritten in order though which is why message 2 has priority.
      First the game calculates damage ignoring typing.
      It resets the type effectiveness message to be empty(no message)
      It then checks the first type, if super effective store that message and multiply damage by 2. If not very effective store that message and divide damage by 2. If completely blocked multiply damage by 0(no message stored because that's checked later).
      Then it checks type 2 in the same way overwriting the message.
      Then it checks if the damage was 0 to set the no effect message.
      This also explains why not very effect/super effective typing always results in even damage and how no effect has even higher priotiy than the second typing.

      X Accuracy in Gen 1 doesn’t just raise accuracy by a stage, it means that any move ignores accuracy checks to always hit, except for moves with another condition like OHKO moves that require outspeeding.
      Also, Counter can actually counter items in Gen 1.

    • @wiseguise5960

      I forgot that counter will work if Substitute is up. That was changed in Gen2.
      There's also some wonkyness when used with multihit moves as it only counters the damage done from the last hit.

      I could be wrong, but I think for a few gens when you got a gym badge it used the verbage "in addition, Pokemon up to level ___ will obey!" or something like that, so lots of people assume it applied to all Pokemon, not just traded ones

      @MiriaJiyuu Před 2 lety +20

      @@MamaSymphonia In the older games it wasn't clear in the actual game, you can see it in this video when he gets the Cascade Badge. It was shortened likely due to character limitations. I think the manual specified it more clearly. Combined with the anime where pokemon regularly disobeyed trainers that caught them, it's not hard to see where the misconception comes from.
      However it only applies to traded pokemon, and has only ever applied to traded pokemon. Anyone remembering a non-traded pokemon not obeying them is lying or misremembering. It's very easy to figure this out just by overlevelling your current gym badge level, its not insane luck that it always obeys still. The level limitation applies to any pokemon with a different trainer ID than your own, that's why gift pokemon are often considered traded.

So if you were hit with all 6 Sand attacks, in the next battle, that pokemon would have a 1/250, or maybe 1/196 chance of missing even 100% accurate attacks. it would make it so accuracy debuffs weren't as immediately game-ending as they were in this video, but still something worth avoiding, as the effect would be worse on less accurate moves.

    Another idea : after every badge, you have to replace your entire team with pokemons you haven't use yet.
    For example : you won against Brock with Squirtle, Butterfree and Rattata. Now you can't use these three (or evolutions or pre-evolutions) for the rest of the run. But you can't replace a pokemon for another reason. If you play with Zubat next, you can't put it in the PC before fighting Misty. You can catch a pokemon in advance and put it in the PC for later purpose, but since you used it in battle or for HM, it's part of your team.
    So the more you progress in the game, the few possibilites you have to compose your team. You have to choose wisely every team for not wasting the strongest pokemons early. And you have to play with rarely used pokemons like Girafarig or Dewgong because you does not have so many choice for nine different teams.
    Additionnal rules :
    - no legendary or only one per team ;
    - no "I pick only two or three pokemons and grinding them a lot" strategy, maybe you have to use a complete team after every badge ;
    - no daycare ;
    - something to spice up the whole thing a bit, like no items or whiteout = resetting at the last save.
