I lusted after the 143 for a long time, but when I went into the Seiko boutique and tried them both on, I was converted to the 317. I felt that the 317 actually wears a bit smaller visually because the bezel is actually about 39mm across and, as you say, is less dressy. I think if they shaved a couple mm off the 143 in diameter and and 1mm in height it would be the perfect GADO diver.
I managed to pick up the 317 for about $600 US in Hong Kong, and at that price I just couldn't resist. Have ordered the Uncle Seiko oyster style bracelet for it and I'm super excited to get it on there! Strangely, I've found that the movement has become more accurate in the last couple of weeks I've been wearing it. For the first few days, it was running at about +5 to +10 seconds per day, and now it's down to +2 or 3. I agree that the lume is slightly disappointing. This is my first Seiko and, from their reputation, I was really expecting to be a torch in the dark, which it wasn't. Still pretty good though.
That is an absolute bragain! Can't refuse a good-looking watch at that price. I agree that the oyster bracelet might be better suited on the 317. It'll look like a better version of the seiko mini turtle. I'm happy with the accuracy of the watch. Since I don't really wear them longer than two days tops, except if I go on a vacation. Kirby, Ive not long had my 143, and it was running fast. So over a couple of days of trial and error (no timegrapher) I've regulated it and it is now absolutely spot on for daily wear! And to boot .... I can just tweak it overnight if I need to, simply by how I position it. Definitely worth doing! 👍

In my eyes the dial of the 143 is a bit misty compared to the 317 which is more legible. My personal favourite though is the 317 due to the crown position at 4 o clock. Thank you for the comparison man!

I have both and really enjoy wearing them. Also have SPB213 white dial limited edition of the 62MAS but it doesn't get as much wrist time as the grey dial.

SPB143 has a steel bezel insert, not aluminium. If a watch is suddenly running extremely fast it is probably magnetized. Your SPB143 was probably magnetized during the trip - try to demagnetize it first.
Thanks for pointing that out, I didn't notice it. Yeah I'll probably try that first, and if it still runs bad, I'll have to adjust. It is too soon for a service since it is almost a year of ownership. Appreciate it.
I really like both of these, but with my big wrists, they are just a bit too small. The Samurai and Turtle are the perfect sizes for me, and I have both. 😂

6.5in wrist size. Yeah I prefer to take it out and get shots with it rather than just indoor scenarios, to give a more realistic view of the watch. Thanks for watching!

SPB143's hard coating makes it look gray - almost like titanium. Is it the same with SPB317?
I believe they both have the hard coating. It’s just that the spb143’s bracelet is also covered in hard coating. Giving it a much darker tone overall.
Which one wears smaller??
