"We've Only Just Begun"... So Young, So Beautiful... And So Full of Promise! Her speaking was just as Magical as her singing voice. I was so blessed to have experienced "The Carpenter's" in the 70's era.... nothing can ever compare! Thank you for sharing! 💖
So well said! Yes to me her speaking voice was just as magical as her singing voice. Karen had a unique voice. She just made you want to listen to her sing or speak. I grew up listening and watching everything Carpenters since 1970. With so much great music in the 70's it had to be really hard to stand out yet The Carpenters did. Decades later and still nobody compares to them.
They were the soundtrack to my childhood! I feel so lucky to have experienced Karen, and like so many people I can remember exactly where I was when I heard that she’d passed. I was just a teenager, but it really shocked and saddened me.
The Carpenters music made growing up in the 70's so much fun! I enjoyed listening to the music and noticing each musical element every time I put the needle down on the record. Fantastic production, music and vocals. I never get tired of their albums.
I loved her SILVER SPARKLE GLITTER METALLIC LUDWIG DRUMSET,,ALL THOSE ACROSS THE BASE DRUM,AND WHAT A SURPRISE TO SEE HER BEHIND THEM SINGING WHILE PLAYN THEM.WOW,!!
What a rare gem of an interview. Roger Scott (1943-1989) may have done the best interview of them. They're not putting you on. It was almost as if they may have thought they had opportunity to vent and show the fans how human they really were. they were like your next door neighbors, yet geniuses. Seems they had a love of people and fans. Maybe like many others in show business felt trapped in an image they did not create just by being themselves. and they worked their ass off for us. the part where she says "you can get damn sick" etc.was an indicator to me she KNEW something was wrong with her health. "the only way you can stop is die" sent chills up and down my spine. Poor lady. She felt obligated to her fans as in "the show must go on'" ....we all loved her too much. We should have let her be and get rest....we would have had we known how sick she really was with anorexia all those years. Look up musicality for a definition, and Richard and Karen's picture is there, not some metal head noisy band.
Well, what a marvelous treat to wake up to this morning after a rotten night of insomnia. It's always quite special to hear something like this where Karen and Rich get a chance to speak openly about the business side of being such a successful act all over the world and all of the attendant hard work involved in such a huge musical machine. They both sound great and upbeat about their future here, but when Karen mentioned that the only way they could miss a concert date is if one of them were dead...that broke my damn heart for obvious reasons. Thanks, Billy for sharing this with all of us hardcore Carpenters fans from around the planet, it's special things like this recording that keep us fed and happy when it comes to anything C's related. Keep these hidden gems coming my friend, you NEVER let any of us down.
Breaks my heart to my friend, and I never got that special, unique opportunity to see her live in concert. CZcams is great, but will never be the same. Thank you, Karen, for brightening our days and giving us impeccable joy. You are like a glistening red rose in the early morning dew.😎
Thanks for this enjoyable interview with full songs. The best interview I've seen so far. Glad to see them early in their career still feeling strong. Getting a glimpse of how much time & effort goes into making their albums as well as being on the road makes me realize this pair really earned every dollar they received.
Richard I seen.you both in person 1973.I was 22 years old I love so much. I think about it today It makes me.happy.I.am.70 years.old But I still love to hear your songs My.mama loved Top.of the world She seen you too When you played that song.she enjoyed it Me too.I love all your songs.I had all your record's.And.now.i have alot.of your CDs I love.Karen so much She.was a.lovely.person God.Bless you Richard And.your family.VA.🌅🎇🎃
I Remember When Karen Passed Away I Was Only 16 When She Died I Knew She Was A Singer But I Didn't Know What A Really Great Singer She Was Until I Got Older Now I Have Just About Everything They Recorded Even Alot Of Bootleg CDs They Were The Greatest Just Like Everyone Else Just Wish Karen Was Still With Us And Just How Beautiful She Really Was RIP Sweet Angel
In the 70s Carpenters, were a breath of fresh air. I liked the hard rock groups like Steppenwolf, Guess Who,BTO. However I loved Carpenters, presents. They were and still are the Greatest Sound around. Karen is deeply missed, but love Carpenters recordings. Timeless work of Excellence ❤❤.
This interview and others dismisses any rifts between brother and sister. They supported each other and Karen never tried to take more than her share of credit, she idolized Richard and he acknowledged it would never have worked without her god given voice.
Thank you for sharing, Billy, 23:11 This is where I strongly disagree with Karen who says, "You can't tell an audience you don't feel well." Yes, you can and should. Health is always first, or you die. You have to take care of yourself, or there is no show. Tell managers, producers, the fans, "Sorry, you'll have to wait." That's what God tells Habakkuk. "You're going to have to wait." Richard's and Karen's parents should have stepped in and help guide them. Like Karen said, "No money in the world is going to make you happy." 45:00 "Trying to stay ahead of it all." Karen and Richard try to keep cranking out hits. Hits are God's gifts, not humans. As Ray Manzerek said when asked if the Doors would be on the pop charts today, "That doesn't matter. Money's not important. Doing what you do that's real is what's important."
Karen Carpenter = A beautiful woman with true class!❤
I agree totally
Losing her is one of the greatest tragedies in music history
😢

These are such golden nuggets of interviews. She sounds so grounded it is unbelievable to think she would fall victim to anything.
That lady was truly special...
Karen, she always usually had such a cheery voice. The best perfect female singing voice ever, imo. ❤️

And that’s what it’s all about. Thank You for posting.
Arguably the best interview of the Carpenters ever recorded. So honest. So real.
I feel I learned more in this interview than anything else I've ever read/heard.
My biggest disappointment and frustration is being born too late to experience the 70s and the Carpenters. I miss Karen every day.
I loved her SILVER SPARKLE GLITTER METALLIC LUDWIG DRUMSET,,ALL THOSE ACROSS THE BASE DRUM,AND WHAT A SURPRISE TO SEE HER BEHIND THEM SINGING WHILE PLAYN THEM.WOW,!!
I miss you Karen.RIP

A life long fan from aged 6 when my parents bought an album. They were just the best of all time.

Karen Carpenter have a Sweet and Clear voice, We love Carpenters forever
I find myself thinking what the world of music has missed out on. To date, I've yet to hear a female vocalist that comes close to Karen Carpenter.
❤️
Strange when she said you can get sick if you don't eat right.

It’s unfortunate but the music industry exploited them, their touring schedule was ridiculous and ruined their health.
At 23:15 such a great song!

They were so great! Muskrat was one of my favorites.
They did not make that.song
@Cindy Duran. You are confusing the Captain & Tennille with the Carpenters. It was the Captain &Tennile that recorded the song, "Muskrat Love".
@@michaelbarlow6610 dang it....you are so right! Lol...I am always terrible about who sung which song. Thanks for letting me know.
