Hello Neil, many thanks for making and posting your videos. I am 64 years of age and I decided I will try to learn Mandarin. I have been using a variety of learning apps, podcast etc, but I have learnt much more from your videos than I have learnt from other resources.
If you would kindly post a video of general conversational skills, e.g. introducing yourself, discussing family, hobbies, interests, that will be very helpful. Thanks. Regards, Pete

I've been 'acquiring' Chinese for a little over a year now, and your approach is so lax. And I get it.
Please continue with your channel. I like your perspective.
    谢谢你 for taking the leap!

Hello Mr. Neil, today is my second day of learning Chinese Mandarin. I'm a French native. I'm using your method of listening and repeating out loud for 10 minutes a day, then picking a word to use in sentences throughout the day. I am very happy to have found your video. I was very unsure if I was doing it right to start learning this way. Please continue to teach us more and I wish you and your family all the best. Xiexie!

Brit here. Started a few days ago. So far I have been listening to HSK 1 vocab list and repeating over and over. I'm also attempting to get a grasp of the tones.

Hey! I’m in Hangzhou and I’m in love with it! Learning Chinese is fun for me, and at the end, I know it’s gonna be a challenge for me.

It's great to hear you're enjoying your time in Hangzhou! Learning Chinese can be both fun and challenging, but it's definitely worth it.

As someone who has learned Chinese for 4 years: I really love your points about learning the language as a child would. I also agree that grammar is not that important but having the feeling for the language and using grammar based on that. But I would argue that tones and pinyin are important, with supplementary fun content that can be immersive such as movies, TV, and podcasts (in Chinese of course). My tones were horrible at first, but after I got more advanced, I had to go back and learn and fix them. I do recommend learning tones so your foundation is solid. Additionally, lists are really not what I would personally recommend to anyone but rather learning words from context in TV and podcasts. Good luck to everyone!

Thank you for your feedback and encouraging comments. I agree that tones are important, I just don't want beginners to be too worried getting them perfect or getting overwhelmed at the start. Immersive content is also great for getting a feel for the language and for listening to how it should sound.
