Is anyone else kind of having a meltdown about this? I'm full on sobbing. The thought of having my most intimate thoughts read deeply unsettles me and makes me feel a strong sense of dread. Especially as someone with OCD who gets intrusive thoughts... the shame of having some of my intrusive thoughts read is unbearable. That means they can absolutely stimulate thoughts and responses. And who’s to say this reads in one direction, from person to computer? Instead of mind reading, it would be better to develop a device that can read brain waves, and then use AI to find meditation content or music to get someone to a higher brain state. Basically, the AI would get a live view of a person’s brain waves and put on the right content to get them to the brain state that the person desires. Maybe this type of device can be used to train the brain to better deal with conditions like anxiety & depression. Also, maybe it will help some people reach a ‘master’ level at meditation much more quickly.
But then again, the potential for abusing this type of technology is very high. It’s hard to imagine that somebody would make this technology available solely for the reason of benefitting humanity, rather than for their own gain. Privacy is a major issue.
Thank goodness someone is actually passing legislation BEFORE the tech is available.
I knew something like that was happening. I think of something and almost immediately I start seeing commercials or content relating to the thing I was just thinking about even though I hadn't done a search or spoken verbally so the phone recording device could pick it up. This is crazy.
