I think customers snap shafts with a torque wrench because there are so many posts with misinformation on the internet giving torque specs that are way too high.

Interesting he mentions that this impeller with threads can tighten ,when running, witch means the balance will change. Turbine and shaft,, and also impellers are balanced on their own to 40,000 rpm on a Shneck balancer. Some shops like to balance the assembly, extra cash flow, is it needed, not likely.

They can tighten, but probably not even visible.

Have you guys ever thought about making a ported compressor housings for the stock gt38? I know that the aftermarket drop in wheels still surge.

If the wheel will tighten up while the turbo is spinning wouldn't it then be off your marks and then out of balance?

I built one for a friend more than a year ago. The marks stayed lined up after a few months of use. I think he was just stating that just like cooling fans, they are threaded so they cannot unthread themselves.

After watching this i just had to check mine, i have about 8,000 miles on my KC Stage 2 since i installed it, so i just pulled off
My intake tube going into Turbo, and my marks are still lined up just like they were when i bought it, So it hasn't moved at all. I just had to check it out.

@@badass6.0powerstroke10 i didnt think the lines were for balancing, just for torque. either way these KC guys know what they're doing

@@psd28 Yeah, these lines that are being talked about now aren't for Balancing, these are just to make sure nut isn't backing off. There's another Line marked on Mine, right on the Leading Edge of the Compressor Blade, i believe that's the one used for a reference point for Balancing.

Sounds like the customers are snapping those shafts because they’re reverse threads

    • @KCTURBOS

Often times its from over tightening, they dont use a torque wrench, or just line up the marks by hand.
