    • @brian2440
      @brian2440 Před 2 lety +1

      Well your comment is pretty ambiguous as “green energy” is not a technical term to classify energy sources. It’s a marketing slogan. So not entirely sure what energy sources your specifically referring to.
      However I’m gonna just assume you mean solar and wind and are concerned about intermittentcy. This is a valid concern, but yes the technology does exist. The real problem is that depending on the concentration of intermittent sources on an electrical network you may need massive quantities of these various technologies and therefore you have to properly plan and coordinate the introduction of greater solar and wind capacity to the network in direct relation to the installation of these technologies.

      Our congressional delegations VOTED to sell our limited natural resources on the open world market. It is not renewable. When gas and oil are gone, they are gone. The law of supply and demand is easy to understand. If our energy is sold on the open market which is high, subjects us to higher prices as we demand energy. Energy is an area that states fundamentally can’t run themselves. Yes they can manage sources and infrastructure within their state but a significant portion of the energy grid infrastructure spans multiple states thus falling under federal jurisdiction.
      The US has three major interconnections (large scale electrical grids) that span the lower 48 states. To then manage these interconnection there are public and public/private regional institutions called Independent System Operators (ISOs) and Regional Transmission Operators (RTO). WECC for example manages the Western Interconnection that spans 10 states. PJM is an RTO that manages a regional network within the Eastern Interconnection that spans 14 states. Both WECC and PJM report to FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission) under the U.S. Department of Energy.
      You also have other associated institutions like Power Marketing Administrations (PMAs), Tennessee Valley Association that supplies energy from specific sources and manages markets that span multiple states.
      On top of all of every there’s also managing the reliability of electricity on grids. The primary institution over this is even above the DOE - called NERC or the North American Electric Reliability Corporation that manages the entire North American Grid. Within each country of North America there are regional subsidiaries called Reliability Coordinating Councils that manage and regulate reliability standards in accordance with NERC and work with FERC in the US (with the sole exception of the Texas Interconnection where ERCOT (an State ISO) and TRE (the RCC of the Texas Interconnection) report directly and solely to NERC.
      As you may have realized in reading my comment the energy industry is extremely complex and has multiple managing parties to ensure that the country has proper energy to sustain populations. This is much bigger than what state governments can realistically manage on their own.
