  • Paint pads are fast taking over from rollers because they cause so much less mess and give, in DIY Doctor's opinion, a cleaner, smoother finish. We demonstrate how to put a paint pad together, what to look for when shopping for a paint pad and, most importantly, what NOT to buy. We show you how to use a paint pad on walls and ceilings and ultimately howto get a decent finish to your decorating. More tips and help can be found in our project here: www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects...

The best paint pads are no longer made.
I bought a polycel pad set in 1976 which consisted of a large paint tray with roller [still being used today] plus a large pad, smaller pad and a detail pad, all mohair, the handle had a push button release, when I came to replace the pads a few years later, Polycel were no longer making them, then I went to "peter painter" paint pads which I was using well into the 1990s,
Both the polycel and peter painter pads were very very good and far quicker then a roller [no mess either]now the only decent paint pad I have found is the Harris paint pad, not a patch on the early versions though!
