Just wanna say I was on the edge about starting a detail business. I found your videos a little over 2 weeks now and started my business last week and have been doing great with it! You definitely inspired me to just bite the bullet and do it!
No way! That is awesome, so happy for you!!
I give Jess a lot of credit ~ She's so determined to better her skills. Most people wouldn't go to these extremes. When I'm done detailing my car I'm exhausted and have a sore back the next day ~ don't know how she does it. Her drive and work ethic is amazing.
Thank you 💪🏻 It is incredibly exhausting but I grew up always having to work hard for what I wanted and I don’t do well behind a desk haha so physical, tiresome work it is😅
To have the knowledge to be able to expand your business is a awesome tool. Just to have the capability is key.
Agree!
Another great video. It's fun going on the journey with you. You're correct, follow your gut and be the best detailer you can be. Everything else is will fall into place.
Thank you so much! It’s quite a journey…so much to learn and so many areas to grown in!
Nice! Always nice to get up to date.
We use the machine to read the paint in order to know how thin or thick we have in paint, clear coat available so we know when to stop when doing the paint correction or paint enhancement and if to accept the vehicle before doing the job. Thickness is extremely important to know. One thing though, the paint thickness machine does not read on bumpers that most of them are plastic and painted/clear coated unless you buy one that costs over 1500 dollars.
Great to know! There is definitely a lot to learn 🤯 I’m just going to take it one step at a time and keep on building my knowledge one step at a time.
Apex Detail's videos on how much you are removing from the paint for the various corrections has been invaluable. Recommend you check out those to see how much a polish vs one-step vs 2-step vs etc. affects the remaining paint.
I started watching some of Apex’s videos and they are great! I have so much to learn though, just gotta find some brain space to get there haha
Jess also if you want to practice. Go by a local body shop and see if they have hoods or doors you can have. Just today I swung by mine and they gave me a hood and two doors.
That’s awesome! I definitely would like to do that!
@@DetailWithJess My guess they like to give them away otherwise they're paying to haul scrap away. Good luck
Having paint correction knowledge and ceramic coating knowledge is a good learning experience
It sure is
Awesome keep up the good work. You're going to do great in your detailing business 👍.
Thank you so much!
You should have looked into classes at Auto Greek down in Florida. Very reasonable price and you really get a lot of hands on car detailing, chemicals and machines. A class was around $1,500.
That’s awesome! I honestly was only looking for help in RV Detailing when I booked this class…it didn’t quite turn out as I expected, but I was trying to stay optimistic about it 😊
Really glad you taking classes
Thanks 😊
Good for you . Here is my advice from a 40 yr detailer , go get yourself a hood from a junkyard and a cheap rotory and practice. Remember that when the detail is done the exterior is the 1st thing the customer will see . Stay away from corrections to start . Just do enhancements . Get comfortable with the polishers . Corrections will come later .
Thanks so much! That is my plan 😀
One advice would be to try and avoid watching to much detailing videos on social media because most of what you see isn’t the full picture and a lot of these people don’t even run an actual business they just do it for show and views. No one talks about the down sides of paint correction and coatings like the higher cost to perform the job, wear and tear on body, exposure to vibrations and loud sound from polisher as well as the toxic chemical of the coating. While yes the dollar amount you can charge is more you also end up spending a lot more time performing the job.
Great advice! Couldn't have said it better myself
Love that all and agree and believe 100%!
❤
Good for you for recognizing the correction route is not for you. Our business also is not focused on this type of work, it's labor intensive and the risk is higher. Everyone's business and goals are different. You can be highly profitable without correction and coatings. Good for you.
Thanks so much for sharing! I believe the same as well!
I live in New York, just wondering where you went for this training?
It was just south of Rochester - Premier Mirror Shine in Cohocton 😀
You see a lot of detailers go to the junk yard and buy a car hood to practice and experiment on.
I know that’s definitely a possibility, I just know I’m heading south shortly and really didn’t need anymore “junk” to clean up around my property before I left 😂 If I had a garage, I definitely would have!
Hi, Jess i hope you are well, I'm detail technician certificate from 3M, and I have more than 20 years experience in car detailing, I like your videos and you need still learning the art of detail, I strong recommend you buy in your arsenal 3M perfect it LX system and you be amazed with the results especially with this kind of job (Boat) and in the future, instead if are you working with Rotary use speed no. 1 with wool pad no pressure, you will see you job progressive, catch up this advice, I know there are may many products in the market. Best.
Thanks so much. Oh my goodness, do I have a lot to learn! I didn’t know the slightest about paint going into this training so I know I still have so far to go. I’ll be playing around to learn some things in the mean time but absolutely appreciate the advice and admire your expertise!
@@DetailWithJess You welcome just do with Passion and make art in cars.
I think you’re focusing too much on perfection on the paint, I think you should look for bringing gloss back, like paint enchantment or just a quick one step. And a simple ceramic coating that’s only a year, like a really good spray ceramic that would last a year. Simple and easy, finishes the jobs.
I was wondering if that was the case! Thanks for the input!
@@DetailWithJess if you want to try something simple, try the gold standard from diy. Their pads are also nice and simple. And adams advance spray coating will last a year for sure. Just turn away customers who are looking for perfection.
@@MBV180 Thanks for the suggestions!
