Maybe a weird question,
In spite of that, I saw an episode of yours which was about rejuvenation, actors being made younger through special effects. Are these techniques and perhaps you also ever approached by the police, FBI? To help with cold cases?
Going to take advantage of the fact that this has only one view and one reply to beg the Corridor Crew to do a VFX episode that focuses on James Gunn's Peacemaker series, Eagly the Eagle, and that whole show. Or at least talk about it in one of the VFX shows - would love to see what the crew think of Eagly, who was entirely CG but very photorealistic.
The amount of debris depends on the size of the model. But only will there be a lot more debris with a bigger model but the explosion itself will look much more realistic. No matter what you do with CG a real explosion always looks better.

One reason to have Mark Hamill on set is because he would know the character choices to make. How Luke would raise his hand or turn his head and why. A good actor will think about his character's posture, or where his eyes would look and for what reasons. I might be able to stand like a Jedi, but I wouldn't know what Luke's feeling or why. I'd need to understand the character better.
This. I can't believe they didn't use any of Hamill's footage. What better motion-capture reference could you possibly have than the original actor?
Like young obiwan kenobi's actor. Literally deep-studying the original trilogy's actor's mannerisms, way of speech, word-use, etc.
@@KneelB4Bacon motion capture would mean you have to cgi the whole thing. His body, cloth, arms and legs, head everything. That would make it faker
Tell it to Rian Johnson
"This is just such classic Spielberg here, you know, where it's like he's making a dynamic set-up, but it's focused on the characters and their struggles. All the fancy stuff we're seeing is just supplementary to what we're actually focusing on." So true, and so well-put
Talent leads to pride, priiide leads to boasts…boasts lead to tweetening
Mr Hamill….we LOVE you, sir!
Another really cool thing about Luke Skywalker in Mando is that his voice was COMPUTER GENERATED. They used a program called "Respeecher" to recreate his voice and honestly I find that insane.
Wow that's nuts.
That's the one thing I was sure was real in this. Incredible!
Well more accurately computer modified I think? Doesn’t the program still use his current voice clips then translate them to his younger version?
That was something I was so curious about. The voice was more accurate than the image!
@@NethanielShade I followed your link and just came back to say thanks.
I honestly want like a full episode dedicated to them going through the ages of Doctor Who since it's been on air for so long.
I mean even if it’s just a breakdown of the opening credits over the years, I would still find that interesting.
A look at BBC's The Tripods would be interesting. It boasted some fairly sophisticated effects for its time and budget.

I was about to comment the same thing, I feel like there's a lot to dig into, especially when they were working with a tighter budget
My brother works with ILM and I remember how in TLJ they actually had to digitally fix Mark Hamill's hunched back.
I believe they had to throw out his Mandalorian footage because Mark's unfortunate posture makes for poor reference.
Suggestion: The opening of the mini series, "The 10th Kingdom" is this minutes long transformation sequence, slowly turning the buildings of NYC into a magical forest. Would love to see y'all break that down, or even take inspiration from that concept and turn it into a reasonably scoped challenge that y'all could do!

War of the Worlds is still breathtaking and frightening to me since it came out. The sound design just blows me away.
Ditto. The human harvesting sequence is particularly disturbing and terrifying.
@@Lexyboogie I watched it with my dad when it first came out. I was a child and when that scene came on it gave me nightmares. I still get chills whenever I see it and yelled at my dad, now that I'm older, for letting me watch it as a kid.
I'm gonna disagree with you guys on one point: I much prefer when you "guess" at the way a shot was done. It's interesting to hear you bounce ideas off each other, show how there's more than one way to skin a cat, etc. Just talking about what a behind the scenes video talks about is boring. Thanks!
Regular viewers know that they always let 2 guys speculate on how it was done, then the third guy gives the "answer" and usually shows us BTS footage. This is no different - in the first video, they tried recreating the scene (with speculation on how it was done), and now this one gives us the answers.
I'd love to see y'all react to the old Bungie CGI in the Halo games. Especially Halo 3. I want to know what kind of magic went into that lighting engine to make it so good in 2007.
Would love to see a stunt people react for Shang Chi!(if it’s not already in the works) The person vs person fight scenes had a ton of interacting with the environment, and it’d be sick to see some experts break it down.
Working on it!
@@CorridorCrew Can you guys react to Alan Becker's Stickman Series?
Please?
agreed, the amount of interaction between the vfx environment and the Hong Kong style action sequences were pretty groundbreaking. The bus scene and the escape from the building into the bamboo scaffolding scene comes to mind.

Maybe a Laika special? Very underrated studio and they tend to get buried underneath Pixar and Disney.
Gah that’s one of my favorite movies of all time.

I'm still blown away and frightened by the War of the Worlds. It looks amazing and every scene is believable. When the aliens are first introduced, I crap myself every single time.
I would love to see a breakdown of any of the shots from Tenet. Especially the fight scenes with one guy in reverse.
Tenet is an underrappreciated masterpiece, even if dialogue can be a strain to make out at times.

The reason luke looks so different between 4 and 6 is that shortly after 4 wrapped, Mark was in a bad car crash and underwent facial reconstruction surgery. Rumors say this is why they added the Wampa sequence but that's been debunked.
Are you serious?
Take a look at his face from the Christmas episode.
@@RoScFan Watch the Star Wars Holiday Special clips with him in it. His hair is cut terribly and his face is buried in makeup to hide all the scars.
They Wampa scene was debunked though by several people, especially since you can see Luke's face *with the scars* before the Wampa attack. They don't use makeup or anything to hide them.
That's actually not true. He only broke his nose. Nothing more. According to himself.
“They just Scooby Doo’ed themselves” is the best quote to come from thE VFX Artist Reacts series.
I'll say this. I think the Corridor crew did a really great job at recreating young Luke...However, I think Disney still gets the win.
I'm obsessed with the videos. You guys should do an episode of I, Robot. Specifically how they did the robots, as well as some cool shots and scenes in the finale fight. I'll admit it's not the best movie but it's one of my favourites!
The War of The World's remake was so...visceral for me that just watching this breakdown had me shaking. The acting in it was so brilliant, and married to the special effects made it truly terrifying at times.
Honestly, I saw this movie as a child and it really impacted me so much. I loved it and at the same time it kind of spooked me. I still get a bit anxious when I see it just because of the acting and the situation everyone is in, but it's really just a great movie imo
I'm really not a sci-fi fan, so I never could truly understand why I was so unnerved by War of Worlds. I never considered others felt the same. In my highschool years it was the genius of Blair Witch and its superb marketing.
Honestly crazy how instead of watching Saturday morning cartoons we’re watching Saturday morning cgi reviews. Welcome to the future 💀
often times animation reviews of those older cartoons lol
I’m not sure if they’ve done this already, but they should react to Scott Sterling. The effect seems pretty simple but it managed to trick lot of people.
We watched the original Hellboy the other day, and for 2004 most of it held up quite well, IMO! I'd love to see some of its VFX broken down.
Hamill is right- a certain amount of self-confidence is good (and in this case warranted), but too much can work against you- especially in a corporate structure.
@oeufdufromage I agree I think it was just clickbait
@oeufdufromage yes but since they are also working in the same industry, it might rub off the wrong way to people that mattered to their career the most.
and being the good guy, mark advised them not to
@oeufdufromage
"i dont know what that word means so im gonna call you dumb"
oh the irony
@oeufdufromage are you serious? Disneys production pipeline is the most corporate of them all. these guys are like what? friends who made a small amateur company to film youtube shorts?
ask yourself how disney pumps out a million films a year all of which have the same general quality. Specifically look at marvel. Theres a structure to these things. Disney have been at it for a long, long time. they know the fundamentals, and if you want to work with them, youre going to follow it. Disney aren’t exactly known to be risk takers.i dont think it’s necessarily a bad thing. You wont get stinkers from modern disney, but you wont get masterpieces of art either.
If you want to go big budget with disney, youre following rules. You try to be the special snowflake in their company and be let go so they can pull from a pool thousands of artists wholl give everything for just a shot.
@oeufdufromage oh, we are using playground rules. not exactly suprised. lack of comprehension skills right? must be tough
I’d love a revisit of Tintin. There were some incredible shots in that movie. At the moment I’m mostly thinking of the pirate ship stuff. The battle on the high seas, the duel and earlier the ship sailing in the desert!
yeah me too that film is awesome
Ooo good recommendation
They need to do that
th scene transitions were pretty cool too.
Yes! I love that film
I’d suggest looking back at Death Becomes Her. There’s still a few great special effect scenes and one stunt. There’s the sequence when Streep’s head goes backwards, the ending when she and Goldie Hawn break apart and the stunt where the car screeches backwards and just stops right in front of Hawn.
That was covered in one of the previous episodes, I believe
Many thanks to all at Corridor, your content is so rich with knowledge and insight. War of the Worlds, I remember the van scene blowing my mind in theaters.

The talk about releasing behind the scenes stuff is why I’m sad we are moving away from things like directors commentaries and extras. It’s why I still buy a lot of blu rays.

Do the hometree attack from James Cameron's "Avatar" when Quaritch orders all aircraft fire incendiary missiles@ the Navi Tree
One aspect of the aliens ray gun I loved in War of the Worlds is how when the ray sweeps across something it doesn’t INSTANTLY destroy it. A micro second goes by and it’s destroyed, but I love that tiny pause. It makes me think the energy is being instantly compressed and released, it’s so small but such an interested design choice and it makes the scene really stand out in a small way.
First seen in the Nausicaa anime, I believe.
In the book the aliens use 'heat rays' (IR lasers? Masers?) so it'd take a moment for it to cook the target. There's loads of scenes that are straight out of the book like the train going past on fire or clothes fluttering down out of the sky.
I like when Niko said "get the original actor to show the new actor how to play them" like Josh Brolin as K in MiB was friggen spot on
Notice that the buildings on the left and right, after the explosions, till van is escaping - are still intact. As you said, and what I knew at premiere of War Of The Worlds - there is so little time, and so much things to do. Still, thats one of the greatest CGI in cinema history.
In response to what Wren said about the Peacemaker helmet shot, the deeper I go in learning CG stuff, the more I am confronted by how simple some processes may be but how difficult it is to do things well, especially when you don’t have the experience or instructors to aid in trouble shooting
One kinda fun thing about the Mandalorian's Luke is how much it reminded me of the covers of old Legends books.
Oh yeah, it almost looked painted/illustrated, it had that kind of quality to it.
Ahh nostalgia. I remember when Luke went Sith
heavymountain ah yes, Dark Empire. I don't care what dudes say, that comic series was fun and interesting. The artwork and coloring makes it stand out amongst almost all Star Wars comics and I'm sucker for superweapons and new technology designs...
I feel like John Cena (if he’s as awesome a dude as he comes across as) would totally come in for a stuntmen react if you reached out enough.

You guys should check out the Adventures of Tin Tin (2011). It’s animated but kinda in the polar express style (but much better). There’s a scene that’s about 5 minutes long called “falcon chase” and it’s all a one shot. It’s one of the most classic examples of how Spielberg directs you through a scene with crazy action but still focusing on character and emotion. It also has some great physics/water simulation

Keep up the great work boys!
I was in War of the Worlds! Part of it was shot in Rockbridge County VA. We did the scene where the humvees roll up the hill, and I run behind Cruise right when the missiles shoot over his head and he yells COME BACK HERE!
He messed up that simple line like 5 times, sending us all running up the hill over and over. Eventually Speilburg gets on his megaphone and says "Tom, your mission if you choose to accept it, is to get your lines right" then he began whistling the mission impossible theme.
I leaned over with a smile and asked "Are you going to take that? I mean... you're Tom Cruise!" Which made him laugh, which made the directors assistant upset as I may have been taking him out of character, which almost got me kicked off set. Good times.
Please, please react to Black Sails. Season 2 finale would be a good one.
That show is criminally underrated and I feel like the VFX has also gone unnoticed.
fun fact: Mark Hamill looks so different between episodes 4-6 because he had to get facial reconstruction surgery after being involved in a scarring car crash
between ANH and ESB, actually.

Not something you've done already, but I'd love to see a breakdown of Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate factory. It's got some amazing mix of practical and digital effects. Animatronics, trained animals, a huge amount of oompaloompas, and chocolate which actually looks real.
I think you should react to 1999 walking with dinosaurs documentary series. This show is near perfection when it comes to representing the dinosaurs as normal animals, and not just as impressive movie beasts. This piece of media opened my eyes to the amazing world of the Mesozoic beasts of the past as a kid and played a huge part in my love for animals. The documentary may have its fair share of problems like the old CGI, the inaccuracies concerning the dinosaurs, due to its old age and time-traveling creatures. I still think that you should give it a shot, it's a great show, it'd be an honor to see you're guy's reactions to it.
As Astra. You talked about reflections in astronaut helmets and it has it everywhere. On top of some amazing low gravity physics, and muzzle flashes.
And it uses miniatures (all the wide angle shots of the ship) in a modern film and looks new. Just like Niko wanted with Seth Rogan
I haven’t seen anybody really hit on the CGI of Narnia- and if you guys have- I missed it. I think that the 3 movies did a spectacular job on the animals in comparison to the new Lion King.
He did do something. As how Mark stands, and moves is really important with adding the overall effect of it making the actor look even more like him.

What the gang said is even though Disney had the actual shot of Mark Hamill in that scene, they replaced those shots completely with another actor and basically deep faked Mark's younger face for the final shot. Which means none of Mark Hamill's actual body cues - like him moving or standing - ended up in the final shot.
@@not_imy You're correct, from the VFX point of view. But what hobbyhands is talking about is the acting aspect. For Max Lloyd-Jones to be able see how Mark Hamill moves and shifts, that's something that is incredibly useful to an actor.
So, you're right, there's not a VFX use for Hamill being there. But he's still adding so much to the performance.
The bridge from war of the worlds was in my hometown of Bayonne NJ. They paid for a new little league field for our town since they had to do some work down there!

It’s incredibly inspirational to always see how humble your crew remains. Even with Mark Hamill’s comment about an unintentional marketing “faux pas”, your public acknowledgement and professional conduct is what separates you from the competition. Keep up the great work, lady and gentlemen!
Unintentional? Really? They give almost all of their videos of that ilk titles like that. They knew exactly what they were doing. And to be honest, theirs was not better, which is usually the case with their "we did it better" videos.

Large scale destruction often looks devastating but it seldom *_feels_* as powerful as it actually would be.
But War of the Worlds' bridge destruction scene is one of the few scenes I've ever seen that so viscerally conveys the overwhelming destructive power and the forces at play.
I'm just now stricken with the immense gratitude to be living side by side to some of these amazing actors that will be immortalised in movies forever.
Just curious if a Stunt Man reacts to some of the Jackass Movie's stunts would be a great watch. Discussing pros and cons to some of their ridiculous physical stunts.
get this more likes!!!
I’m surprised they didn’t talk about the fact when they were fighting in the helmet that when one of them hits the ground dust gets kicked up near the helmet
I really really want you guys to look at the stunts and effects from "Last of the Mohicans"!!! I would love to know what Gui thinks about how brutal some of the scenes are. Love what you do, thanks for all your hard work and dedication.
Season 3 of Agents of Shield, episode 22 at 23m20s. They composite a CGI head on an actor's body, and use shadows from a grating above to make it work really well. Similarly a lot of early season 4 with Ghost Rider's head transformations and a lot of fire were done really well. The Quinn Jets always looked amazing too, like at the end of Season 3 where a character flies one into space.
You guys should do a react video about music videos! Directors always get experimental and creative with music videos.
My vote would be for the seamless cuts in Blink 182’s video for “Always.”

Been binging a ton of y’all’s videos (also yes, subscribed) - wondering if you guys ever venture into watching moreso practical effects in addition to the visual ; would love to see you guys talk about something like The Blob (1988) or some Cronenberg films.
Anyway, keep putting out vids, they’re awesome!

I couldn't be arsed changing channels last night and watch The Hunger Games: Catching Fire... There are heaps of different effects in that series, especially the black goo and some of the other challenges they face and heaps more. It would be cool to see some of those looked at.
Love the channel and the bids, thanks for keeping us all entertained.
Could you do Arrival and the swirly alien language stuff? Or how about The Launch Sequence in Apollo 13? Or Gravity! In fact, just a space special would do!!
The worst part of everything going to digital/streaming is how we no longer get behind the scenes and commentary tracks the way we did at the height of DVD releases.
That's one of the reason I still buy DVD/Blu-ray.
I'd love to see you do a whole video where you only look at VFX from older pre-CG movies. The kinds of tricks used are always so interesting when you go into them.
Not a movie you went over, but a TV show: His Dark Materials. I'd love to see you go over the CGI for Lee's Balloon and the Air Ships in both season 1 and 2. 😊
I too would enjoy this. Also, one problem with this otherwise-great production was that the CGI budget didn't run to giving everyone in Lyra's world an animal-daemon, so that in the occasional crowd shots, there visibly aren't enough daemons for the number of people. I wondered if CC could come up with a clever but cost-effective way of upping their numbers?
The way they put together Luke Skywalker‘s reveal at the end of season two of “The Mandalorian” is AWESOME. And it’s cool and clever that ILM hired Shamook to help them do the next season for “The Mandalorian”. I had no idea that Peacemaker’s helmet in the fight scene between him and Rick Flag wasn’t real. AMAZING. Also, this scene STILL TRAUMATIZES and DEVASTATES me. Those who have seen “The Suicide Squad” know exactly what I’m talking about. And that alien attack scene in “War of the Worlds” will forever be ICONIC.
Hey Crew, gotta check out "Flight of the Navigator" and how the ship effects were done. Some of the things they did and programs they used paved the way for software like Houdini!!
Love each of these episodes! Do review the train sequence from sucker punch! Absolutely insane Camera Motion and CGI.
Mark Hamill was in a pretty serious car accident between Empire and Return of the Jedi.
He had damage to his nose which is why he looks so different.
Actually between ANH and ESB. They have him get smacked by a wampa at the beginning of ESB to kind of explain his face.
@@wiremesh2 It was many years ago when movies came out so my recollection may be incorrect. I didnt know about the deciding to have a Wampanoag hit him to cover up for it. Rather silly because at the time everyone knew what happened.
I love the BTS stuff. The LOTR and Hobbit Appendices, the Star Wars prequels, so many great things to see and learn. It was great that they released this.
What about Butter? Dynamite? lmao holy shit I'm joking
My first movie I fell in love with as a child was Transformers (Original movie). With all the auto bots revealing themselves and transforming in the alley all around Sam. It would be incredible if you would be able to review that scene.
Bloom observation, so good, mind blown. Good job Niko.
Maybe I'm the only one on this but I VASTLY prefer the look of miniatures to CGI
This might come as a shock, but the majority of what people believe are practical effects are indeed practical effects.
@@TokyoXtreme This might come as a shock, but every 60 seconds a minute passes in Africa
@@justinnee1572 Africa is largely green-screen and digital composition these days.
You guys should really do The Expanse. The show has thousands of visual effects and they mostly Al correspond to realistic physics. The build brilliant sets and then augment them with vfx elements. The VFX improve a lot between season one and season five, so you should pick a could from each to compare.
I’ve watched like an episode and a half and gave up because it looked so cheap. How many seasons do I need to watch to actually get to some solid visuals?
Martin Turon I tried watching and giving up on the show 3 times before it stuck for me.
By the end of season 1 I was invested, but the first 4-5 episodes were a mission to get through.
I was on the set of "War of the Worlds." All of the audio for the alien crafts was recorded from the turbine engine inside an M1A1 tank. I was in the Corps and they needed extras. I also happened to be a tanker, so I saw some of the process. It was cool.

The destruction that Sam describes is JUST the type of destruction that I’ve always loved!
It’s just so satisfying!!!
I think you guys should do some episodes on puppettering with someone from the field, analizing things like muppets / ninja turtles 90s movies
There are two major aspects to Disney hiring Shamook:
1. They want better deepfake tech on their side.
2. They NEED better deepfake tech on their side.
Makes you wonder what they have written, waiting to be filmed.
Deepfakes will be the end of society. The end of the court system. The end of innocence and guilt and trust.
Oh! I would love you guys to look at the invisible swordsman from The Three Amigos! As a kid is was a very convincing effect.
I'd love to see a breakdown on the launch trailer “BREATHE” for Legends of Runeterra. The mix of drawn digital art and 3D animation is unmatched to anything I've seen.
I know it doesn’t count as movie stunts but I’d love to see y’all and a stuntman or stuntwoman react to some WWE bumps. Just wanna hear what they think about what those men and women have put their bodies through
That's a great idea.
That’s actually a really good idea, while it’s not technically movie stunts it is stunts in a way, so it would be a very interesting episode
Hear, hear!
The floor of the stage bounces, so that absorbs quite a bit of it.
I'm guessing the collapsible chairs are plastic with some kind of impact-absorbing coating (rubber?), and the sound is added in post-production to make you _think_ the chair is metal when it's actually not.
Also, notice how when one wrestler his another inside of the arena stage they stomp their foot at the same point where the blow lands on their opponent-?
John Morrison would be a great choice, he has done both action movies and wwe stuff
@@EVAUnit4A the floor doesn't bounce as much as you think, and it really depends on the region. Mexican rings tend to be harder because luchadors are more about the flips, and they need more stability. The old school WWF rings were basically as hard as concrete.
The chairs are 'gimmicked' but are mostly still metal. Also chairshots to the head have mostly been phased out in mainstream wrestling due to concussion issues, with only the occasional blow to the body being used. As any veteran would tell you, "there is no good way to take a chairshot".
And yes, there are stomps and leg slaps to sell the impact of a blow, when actually the punch or kick is not making full impact. That does not mean there is no impact (I recently saw a picture of a wrestler who bit off the side of his tongue due to a mistimed kick to the face), and again, it depends on regions. Japanese Strong Style wrestlers hit a lot harder than Western ones, since a lot of them come from legitimate MMA backgrounds, and it's what's popular there.
Spielberg is the king of oner's honestly. HE has so many shots in all of his films that are true oners or stitched together, but almost no one talks about it because he does it so elegantly and it just feels natural to the film.
I feel like stitching is a giant cheat. Do it properly or go home.
@@stevenborg102 the point of the oner isn’t just “look I was able to do this shot all in one take”. It’s how the audience reacts to it, so like many things in film, it can be accomplished in multiple ways. Some things would be impossible to shoot as a oner, or two expensive (1917 comes to mind).
@@jacoballison8237 Woody Harrelson did it. If he can do it, anyone can. Go big or go home.
I'd love to see you guys' takes on some of the practical effects in old "Pie-plate on a string" Sci-fi... and if you think you could get similar results today in CG for the same numeric budget...
