The tension seems fine, but the shifter (which rotates) of extremely stiff and impossible to turn. But when there's zero tension, it shifts fine, so I don't think it's a shifter issue

Are the limit screws adjusted? They could be blocking the movement of your derailleur.

@@IvansBikesBmws they are perfectly set. I took apart the shifter thinking it would be dirty, but it's clean. The derailer is at the perfect spot at the 3rd and 1st gear. It is just insanely difficult to twist the gears when trying to shift up. Down is no problem

Your shifter has too much friction on it and it needs to be taken a part to be relubed. That is the only suspect left.

Check the cable tension and limiting two screws.

my shimano front derailleur won't go to the big gear. it takes 3 clicks to get from small gear to the middle and getting the 4th click is extremely difficult. The 4th click does not get me to the big gear. The H limit screw is all the way up, so there should not be anything blocking the derailleur. By click #4, its the derailleur seems to be stretched over to its max with the cable being extremely tight. When down shifting, i can feel the feedback as the tension cause the derailleur to snap over to the lower gear. There is no dirt or debris build-up, and the cage has space to clear the big gear.

Willie it still sounds like it was not adjusted properly. My advise, play with inner cable so that you have enough tension to get it to shift on the biggest cog. That is considered the limiting screws are set properly as you described.

I have the mech position on point, cable tension is the max I can do (and using in-line tensioner), screws are set appropriate, but it's like the mech just can't do it. What's weird is that it initially worked ok, but only briefly.

Sir my shifters doesn't shift frim2 to 3 in ine click it takes 2-3 click to do so. And when i try ti check it on stand it works perfectly so us it pa proboem with my gear or i am doing somethung wrong,i am a newbie

No matter how much I loosen the barrel adjuster or tighten it, or mess with the hi and low limit screws, I can't get the derailleur to shift to top gear on the front sprocket. Would loosening the bolt that keeps the cable attached to the derailleur and tightening the cable make any difference?

Yup. Always check the cable as well. It probably has cable slack , so you it will not push on the biggest ring.

I have seen that one my bike. The first thing to look is your cable tension. There is usually lots cable slack. Your cable needs to be adjust just a bit.

Not at all. I seen bike shops test the front derailleur without a chain. I do it to when I do the installation from scratch.

Joe the front derailleur is not going to click because it is not indexed like the rear derailleur. Try adjusting the limiting screws and you will be fine.

Andreas your cable needs to be adjusted. It seems there is slack and it will not push it on your biggest chain ring.

There is definitely a problem. What happens when you test the front derailleur with your finger? I always test it manually by pushing it up on the biggest chain ring just to see if it works. I have seen it stuck sometimes.

Okay , that is a good news. So there is an issue with cable not giving it enough force to shift onto your bigger chairing. Have a look at the cable and shifter again as the issue is there.
