- It's do-or-die in the EFL Championship relegation battle! Blackburn Rovers, Sheffield Wednesday, Plymouth Argyle, and our own Birmingham City face a nail-biting final day as they all desperately fight to avoid the drop. We consider the possible outcomes of each of these fixtures and try to work out who will be relegated from the EFL Championship this season.
We would really like your thoughts on which team you think will join Rotherham and probably Huddersfield Two next season in League One whether you are a supporter of any of the teams involved or a supporter of any other club. Correction - In the video we discuss the possible scenario where Birmingham could stay up with a draw if Plymouth lose. We state that Plymouth will need to lose by more than 4 goals however as they have scored more goals than Birmingham it would need to be 5 goals. Either way, this is an unlikely scenario.

Wednesday fan in peace here. Seems like a balanced view lads there but completely agree. If Birmingham win someone else will likely lose (hopefully not us). Plymouth would have been gone by now if it wasn't for sneaking past Rotherham and god only knows what that Leicester team was doing but as you say funny old game.

I can see you beating Sunderland but at the very least you will get the draw you need. I think it is between ourselves, Plymouth and Blackburn for that final spot. I think if we can find our way past Norwich that puts a lot of pressure on the other teams. The miracle will happen and here is why: First, Jay Stansfield, possibly his last game, he’s always given everything but the extra motivation for him where he’ll be live on Skye, in the shop window and with the chance to score the goals that relegate Plymouth - he would love that.
Second, Sunderland whose last few games have been awful, at home and Jobe has the chance to save Blues, play out of his skin and inspire the win. Good chance Jude will be there to watch him. I’ve been saying for 2 weeks it’s written in the stars.

Great Podcast boys, what an end to the season, I'm a wed fan who was there sat, WBA didn't know what hit them. The power of the 12th man (the fans) can not be underestimated. What a great result for you last week against WBA and we are hoping for the same outcome against Norwich in front of a sold out St.Andrews@KnightheadPark stadium. As we said in the podcast we think think you will beat Sunderland but at the very least you will get the point you will need to stay up. I just hope we can do what we need to and Blackburn or Plymouth don't.

It’s going to be a dramatic last day at home, we never do anything the easy way, I just have this vision of our game finishing late, teams above us have lost, it’s 0-0 and Juke scores in added time….imagine the celebrations !!

Definitely think a packed house is pushing us over the line. Just because the fans are not allowing the players to hide on the pitch as they can away. I couldn't agree more! When I look at Wednesday when they play I wish our players had this same sense of battle, they are scrapping for everything.

This has been a horrendous season for blues and I am just glad regardless of divison or outcome next season, by about 2:30pm Saturday it should all be finished. Full house at St Andrews is going to be amazing but I just hope the lads turn up and we can get that win.

I'm a QPR fan, really enjoy your content, very fair analysis of other teams while still being true fans of the blues, good luck for the rest of the season, hope you stay up, but all Birmingham fans must be pissed off with the owners and the manager debacle, from being in the playoffs to being in relegation zone ,although qpr nearly did last year from top to 20th so i feel for you, all the best.

The strange thing is that our new owners have been absolutely brilliant apart from that one decision to remove John Eustace and replace him with Wayne Rooney. They have spent millions on St.Andrews @ KnightheadPark and many more millions will be spent this summer, they have purchased the land for anew stadium and have done some many other good things.
When they arrived the summer transfer window was closing and in any event as we were on the threshold of FFP because of our previous owners we could not spend any real money on the squad. Therefore the one thing they could not influence was the playing squad and it is clear from the performances this season that that is our biggest problem.
This summer everything changes. We have 10 players out of contract, the 5 loan players will go back and for the first time in years we have money to spend on players. I hope that we are still in the Championship as we start our rebuild however if not it will have to start in league one.
It might not seem like it today as we are fighting to stay in the Championship but the future for our club is amazing and we will come back much bigger and stronger than before. We just need to get this season out of the way first! KRO

Yes, we have to find a way of beating Norwich as a draw or loss will send us down. We sold the match out in just over a day so the stadium will be rocking and give the boys that push to get us over the line to keep us up.
As a Norwich fan I feel shocking away is a bit harsh we've only lost in 2024 to Leicester and Leeds (and Middlesbrough but that was through a red card that got instantly overturned), Birmingham have a good chance though we've looked off the pace recently almost like they're saving themselves for the playoffs

Birmingham saved QPR by loaning Dozzell allowing them to bring in Andersen and Hayden. B/ham were 8 points clear of QPR at the time.
Thank you for your comment. Dozzell was someone Tony Mowbray really wanted and for his first half a dozen games he was ok. He struggled under Mark Venus and hasn't really been used by Gary Rowett, in fact he has not even made the bench. It depends on whether Tony Mowbray is well enough to return however I think we will end up sending Dozzell back to QPR. KRP

Well.... I honestly never expected us to find ourselves in this position. I think back to previous comments I've made on your podcasts and others with regards to how things would go once Rooney had gone and Mowbray came in. My tank of optimism level has drained lower and lower as the games have passed when we haven't got a positive result and teams around us have or they haven't, but we failed to capitalise. The table doesn't lie. We simply haven't been good enough, so here we are in the bottom 3 with it, not in our hands yet my tank of optimism has been filled up.
I don't know why but I just have a feeling that Saturday is going to be one of those amazing days that we will talk about where you were you!
I'm weirdly really looking forward to the game and doing my bit. Blurs simply have to win and I think we will and then we just have to hope that at least one of the other results that we need goes our way, and I think that this will happen.
Now is not the time for negativity, so if any of the players don't fancy, then they just need to say. Us the fans will more than do our part.

@SmallHeathAllianceFC I have to admit I find it really hard to look past the single error that I feel has ultimately cost us this season. It's hard to think that he's a Blues fan. You would've thought he knew and understood the fabric of the club. What we're about, what the fans look for in their manager. Talk about not reading the room and his arrogance to not get rid of Rooney sooner. I'm sorry, I, for one, will find it really difficult to forgive him if we do end up going down. That's probably really harsh of me, but that's how I feel. The damage caused by that decision was colossal, and we have never recovered.

You'd think we'd be used to this by now! I was at Rotherham and Huddersfield and i have been quite calm - i said we were gone after Cardiff. Of course we have a glimmer of hope but i can't wait until it's all over on Saturday so we know one way or the other. It should NEVER have come to this.

I can honestly say that I'm crapping myself (S.WED.FAN) ,I know we are supposedly favourites to stop up but....... only takes a dodgy penalty, or even worse a RED CARD and then we will be in it up to our knackers!! Roll on 2.30 pm sat when it will be all over!!!

Gary Rowett is known to favour five at the back and Buchanan has played well for us in Central Defense! i.e. Laird, Bielik, Sanderson, Buchanan & Drameh!

Plymouth stay up and Birmingham go down happy days from Bristol city fans. We would want Plymouth to stay up it’s a south west derby. Plymouth deserve to stay up and Birmingham deserve to go down. If you beat hudddersfeild or Rotherham it could of been different.

We have a tough game against Norwich but with a full house full of a fanatical Blues support we have a decent chance of winning and then we can look at the other results.

Most of the players have underperformed this season and they have this final opportunity to give us a big performance give us a chance of staying up. Whatever happens on Saturday i cant wait for it to be over , havnt seen a decent season in over 10 years and this by far is the worst , possibly due to the power of social media that is constantly whipping us poor fans up into a frenzy
I hope we avoid relegation and i know there will be a huge rebuild in the summer so hopefully this wont happen again
As for me sunday im booking into a funny farm for 3 months to give my stress levels a change to recover KRO
Thank you for your comment. Regardless of whether we stay up or get relegated i completely understand where you are coming from when you say that you will be glad when the season is over, that is how I feel as well and I’m sure most Blues fans.
A short summer break and then looking forward to a squad rebuild under Knighthead’s first summer transfer window and then to a brighter future. KRO
In typical Blues fashion, when things get desperate we will always pull something out of the bag. Hoping for a 1-0 narrow victory over Norwich, and just needs one of the three teams above us to drop points and we should be fine. On the bright side, even if we do go down, we have an experienced manager in Mowbray and a solid owner to drive us forward, return to championship will just be a matter of time.

As you point out, no Blues fan want to get relegated however if we do I’m sure our owners will back us fully to come straight back up. Just imagine if we went down under BSHL, it doesn’t bear thinking about! KRO

For me Wednesday will smash Sunderland. Now that Leicester have won the title & have probably been celebrating after they beat Preston the other night they might be slightly hanging so Blackburn could get something there. Our only chance in my opinion is we beat Norwich & Hull beat Plymouth. But having watched how bad we have played against the 2 teams below us I just can’t see us beating a very good Norwich team. I really hope I’m wrong though as I really don’t want to see us playing the likes of Mansfield Town, Northampton & Stevenage next season

I had the exact same thought but then I read that Leicester really want to hit the 100 point landmark and it's home crowd celebrations so I think they will want to end on a high. Blackburn did beat Leeds at Elland road the other week so it's still an unpredictable game. Agree that Wednesday will win and I think Hull and Plymouth might draw at best which means we will still be okay if we win.
5 sellouts and 5 home wins. Norwich are also 19th in the away form record this season so certainly beatable.
Keep the faith mate. We can do this! We need the players to turn up like they did against Coventry.

Its gonna be hard the only postive thing is its a sell out and we seem to do well in front of a sell out so if we hold on nick the game 1_0 and just hope the other games go our way but the more realistic thing is we lose and so does everyone else and we go down

So glad our final game of the season is not away as our away record has been shocking this year. If we can beat Norwich which is a big if as they are a good side, then I think we have a really good chance if staying up given the fixtures of some of the other clubs around us. KRO

Doesn't that 3-3 draw at Plymouth after being 3-1 up have some significance?
Thank you for your comment. I must admit that result crossed my mind as well. We were 3-1 up and it was a really bad defensive mistake from Dion that allowed then to get back to 3-2 and into the game.
I also think about the amount of late goals we conceded against WBA, Southampton, Millwall, QPR and others that have cost us valuable points.
To be honest, all that matters now is that the players can find a way of keeping us in the Championship and try to redeem themselves for what has been a really disappointing season. KRO
I look more to the 4 points we have dropped home & away to the worst championship team ever in Rotherham! We would more than likely be safe now had we won both those games

Hi Colin and Matt we are at the jump off point , as we you very disappointed we with the players performance , its all over bar the shouting , what we should of dun, Cud of dun , would of dun , its in the hands of the Gods , Simply put We Got to Win , at best its favourable to get through, but on current performance Not Good . Just Hope Gary puts the same team that beat Coventry , and Dembelle has to feather and leave him up top to help stanfield

Yeah, it has been a season to forget that's for sure. We do have to win and hope a bit of luck comes our way with the other results. We have been in this position several times over the years so hopefully we can do it again. Still can't believe it's came to this but we will be there tomorrow screaming our heads off to get behind the lads and hopefully get them over the line.

Every sell out so far has resulted in a Blues win. Let’s hope the boys can do it one more time and see what happens in the other games. KRO
Forest fan in Cornwall, but more regularly an Argyle watcher. Frankly both Blues and Argyle are terrible! In some senses each deserve to go down! Both are devoid of creativity and goal threat ATM. I saw your game v Cardiff on TV recently and you were shockingly bad. It was like watching Argyle in blue shirts!
As you say, St Andrew’s will be rocking and I think that will get you over the line. Norwich have nothing to play for. So to my mind, Argyle may have to win. The home support got Argyle over the line v Leicester. The support will be key. My favourite scenario is The Greens and Brum stay up. Know a few bluenoses and have a lot of time for your club.

Always a pleasure to meet and engage with other fans. Yeah, we have been truly awful this season and we actually blew a 3-1 lead at Plymouth earlier in the season. How crucial is that looking now? Typical blues.
The 3 positives for me are, Leicester want to hit the 100 point mark so will be gunning at Blackburn, Hull will want to beat Plymouth to stand a chance in the playoffs and we are at home with a sellout. Don't get me wrong the stars need to align but we will keep the faith until that table reads 46 games played and it's concluded.

My heart says they Will go down but im praying they stay Up. Its a disaster if they go down even though people say its not. If we go down we are at least a year behind where we are now. In any case the Squad needs a complete revamp whatever league we are in Next year.

Thank you for your comment. We've struggled to win key games this season and we always make things hard for ourselves. All we can do is concentrate on beating Norwich. If that does not happen then all of the other results are of no interest to us as we will be down,
We sold out this match in just over a day, so the support and atmosphere in the stadium will be immense. KRO

Thank you for your comment Catherine. We really do have to back the boys and even though we are currently in the drop zone there are three other teams in the mix so we are not relying on the outcome of just one team.
The atmosphere at St. Andrews@KnightheadPark will be electric and although I know its going to be tense I'm actually really looking forward to it. With the crowd behind them the boys can beat Norwich although we know it won't be easy. Norwich are a very good team and will probably want to claim that 5th spot so that they will play Southampton instead of Leeds in the playoff semi-final. Come on you Blues!!! KRO
