  • Windmills of Your mind
Round, like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel.
    Never ending or beginning,
    On an ever spinning wheel
Like a snowball down a mountain
    Or a carnaval balloon
    Like a carousell that's turning
    Running rings around the moon
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping
Past the minutes on it's face
And the world is like an apple
    Whirling silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind
Like a tunnel that you follow
To a tunnel of it's own
Down a hollow to a cavern
Where the sun has never shone
Like a door that keeps revolving
    In a half forgotten dream
Or the ripples from a pebble
    Someone tosses in a stream.
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping
Past the minutes on it's face
And the world is like an apple
    Whirling silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind
Keys that jingle in your pocket
    Words that jangle your head
Why did summer go so quickly
Was it something that I said
    Lovers walking allong the shore,
Leave their footprints in the sand
Was the sound of distant drumming
Just the fingers of your hand
    Pictures hanging in a hallway
And a fragment of this song
    Half remembered names and faces
But to whom do they belong
When you knew that it was over
    Were you suddenly aware
That the autumn leaves were turning
To the color of her hair
Like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel
    Never ending or beginning,
    On an ever spinning wheel
    As the images unwind
Like the circle that you find
In the windmills of your mind
    Pictures hanging in a hallway
And the fragment of this song
    Half remembered names and faces
But to whom do they belong
When you knew that it was over
    Were you suddenly aware
That the autumn leaves were turning
To the color of her hair
Like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel
    Never ending or beginning,
    On an ever spinning wheel
    As the images unwind
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind

I never fail to be impressed by Sting's understanding of syncopation and asymmetrical stress within a phrase. NO one else's cover of this song nails it like he did. Absolutely perfect.
Seems these days people don't understand you can't merelynuse the same phrasing on every. Single. Verse. Ugh!!

This is brilliant! I've been listening to Sting for quite a long time and I didn't know he'd covered Windmills of your Mind... For all those who like 'music', TAKE 6 has just released a new album and included this song!

Say it again Scinders. There are type of music in the world. Some we love. Some we like and some we don't care for. So change the station.
I personally LOVE Sting. I've listed to him since the mid 80's. He has grown and matured like fine wine.

So sophisticated and cool... Like Steve McQueen was the touchstone Sting reached for... and proof this genuine.

Round like a circle in a spiral, like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending or beginning on an ever-spinning reel
Like a snowball down a mountain, or a carnival balloon
Like a carousel that's turning running rings around the moon
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping past the minutes on its face
And the world is like an apple whirling silently in space
Like the circles that you find in the windmills of your mind
Like a tunnel that you follow to a tunnel of its own
Down a hollow to a cavern where the sun has never shone
Like a door that keeps revolving in a half-forgotten dream
Like the ripples from a pebble someone tosses in a stream
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping past the minutes on its face
And the world is like an apple whirling silently in space
Like the circles that you find in the windmills of your mind
Keys that jingle in your pocket, words that jangle in your head
Why did summer go so quickly?
Was it something that you said?
Lovers walk along a shore and leave their footprints in the sand
Was the sound of distant drumming Just the fingers of your hand?
Pictures hanging in a hallway and the fragment of a song
Half-remembered names and faces, but to whom do they belong?
When you knew that it was over were you suddenly aware
That the autumn leaves were turning to the colour of her hair!
Like a circle in a spiral, like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending or beginning on an ever-spinning reel
    As the images unwind
Like the circles that you find in the windmills of your mind
