    If I won a big lottery I'd be buying this tractor along with many others. That tractor looks so much better than the stuff today...plus NO DEF. As a retired heavy equipment operator, there's nothing better than operating BIG HORSEPOWER equipment.

      Earlier time simpler engine. Easy tear down /rebuild not as expensive. Start at -50F. Most times 😁

    I drove one , 4890 , for a farming operation in the late 70s and loved every minute of it . With the eight tires and narrow roads , it was a real mailbox killer .

    • @brianzybura8633
      @brianzybura8633 Před rokem

      I use to know a guy who owned a John Deere 8850 with 8 tires, and he never knocked over a mailbox. It sounds like you lacked proper attention driving 4 wheel tractors when you were on country roads.

    • @wildedog3967
      @wildedog3967 Před rokem

      Listen , I'd run it down in a ditch to keep from killing some hapless driver , mailboxes are , in my mind , are expendable .

    Dad bought ours new 9/12/85 the same day my little sister and future brother in law were born in the same hospital. Pretty sure that’s how I met my wife- at the observation window. He would let me drive but then crab the rear steer to joke with me. I would ride on the back ledge until I dozed off and bonked my head on the window then lay on the lower front window and sleep. I started driving it at about 2400 hours and the hour meter quit working at 8500. Good times. I love that tractor.

    Great Video, fantastic machine! I was just a young fella in NZ when I first came in contact with case products, we had a case 600 header, i remember seeing a case 1070 at a field day operating, also a contractor operating a 1470 one of the early rigid frame case tractors! watching the use of the crab steer features in this video was interesting! It was shame that center pivot replaced rigid frame basically after the model we are looking at! I don't know anything about the mechanical side of rigid compared with center pivot! History is history thanks for sharing

    Hey Jason, I didn't know if you knew about the Iowa country girl farm family. They run a wide variety of allis chalmers tractors and equipment on their farm in Iowa. Then there's Chris Losey. His farm is in Michigan and he runs a wide variety of Oliver and white tractors. Just a couple of suggestions if you're looking for some vintage equipment content.

      I am a Traction King fan too. The cab on these is hard to film because they are pre-buddy seat machines. There is not much room besides the operators chair. I may have a chance to drive a 4994 in the next year or so. I will defiantly film it while driving.

    I farmed from1993-2000 with a case 2870, same power as this 4894, u do have extra wear points because both axle r built with king pins & u joints on the end of each axle. I pulled a wilrich 10 bottom plow with ease, mine was new about 1979,I was the 2nd owner, the dealer over haul at7500 hrs before I bought it should have included a new engine oil pump which I had to have replaced.

      @bigtractorpower  Před rokem

      The torque is definitely important. I use original sales literature from the companies to you list all the specs in horsepower ratings for these videos so I can reflect exactly what they were marketing at the time. unfortunately, very rarely do they list the torque there often focused on PTO and engine horsepower. when they do list torque, I definitely want to include it.

    A four-wheel-drive tractor (with 4 wheel and crab steering modes) with 300 engine horsepower for only $100,798 back in the day? That was quite a bargain back then! 😮

    • @noahater5785
      @noahater5785 Před rokem

      It’s kind of a shame that such a genius innovation at the time was nearly lost to history though, as the only example of such innovations coming back to relevance in the 21st century that comes to mind is Claas’ Xerion series which are also considerably more powerful as well

      Sad but positive in the long run. Case IH will turn 40 next year. Unfortunately, neither brand was managed to be able to carry on through the tough economy in the 1980s. If they had not merge, they very well could’ve been sold off in pieces to other companies and simply fold it up. Case IH ensured a parts supply and future products. I am a fan of both brand separately and wish they did not merge but the result has seen a stronger brand.
