NEMOPHILA is one of the hottest rock/metal japanese band of 2020. They do a cover song every friday, mostly of rock or metal bands. They also have 3 original songs (1 MV "RAITEI" and 2 live versions "OIRAN" and "Life") on their CZcams Channel. Also, NEMOPHILA are doing a livestream on December 26th. You should check them out.
Every japanese band has talented musicians, so I'm always waiting for the vocals to know if I dig or not (sadly Lovebites didn't pass the test for my tastes). Mayu, NEMOPHILA's singer, is the main reason I love this band. She has a raspy voice that suits rock music.
On the Helloween cover, I agree with you. She doesn't have the vocal range and power of the Helloween's singer. But to make a comparaison with Iron Maiden, I'll say that she sounds more like Paul Di'Anno than Bruce Dickinson. With her voice, the song has a little punk vibe similar to the early Iron Maiden.

If Lovebites don't pass your test, then maybe your test is wrong. They are simply the best. And Nemophila are close behind.

I think she sound great in particular since she, at least when this was recorded, hardly understood a word English and had to sing this phonetically. I think she has enough grit to make it metal. And I really like her voice. Would be interesting if you revisited this song now two years later and see if you still has problems with her vocals. Just interesting, you do not have to like it.
For 100% accuracy, they should palm mute the guitar harmonies right after the solo. But I'm nit picking. To be honest, they do a much better job than I could. Their KISS cover is also fun. As far as their originals, there are some that grab me and others not so much. But that's on me. Not their fault. They're an awesome band. And like you said, like so many bands out of Japan, they're bringing back the spirit of classic hard rock/metal. That's the important thing, and it warms this old man's heart.

Saki is probably one of the best shredders in the world today, Hazuki is making a close second. Listen to Oiran and Raitei - this is the pinnacle of metal in 2020.

It is the name of a type of flower with five petals - for five band members.
It is native to the American northwest, but Japan has an entire park dedicated to it that turns the hills blue every spring.
This was one of the early ones and lead singer Mayu had to memorize the words phonetically because she didn't speak English. She is working on learning English as much as possible before they tour internationally.
You will be amazed how much grittier she can be as they go along.

Great reaction. Mayu’s voice did the same for me at first. She attempts very difficult stuff, but her low vs high ranges aren’t quite balanced imho. Also, she’s got a very difficult job, mimicking that crazy weird foreigners’ way of speaking
People consider dark haired guitarist Saki the organizer of this supergroup, she’s from Mary’s Blood, Amahiru, and leads other projects too. World class shredder, poised to become international guitar goddess. Btw, who else loves Helloween? Lovebites’ drummer Haruna cites it as her primary influence.
Bass player is solid. Drummer Tamu Murata has been in a dozen projects you haven’t heard, but is very successful independently, solo, with Ladybeard, tv clinic, and first go to for quick cover or medley recordings, filling in, even piano work.

My fav is Hazuki. She always seems like second guitarist? But she’s been second to THREE of Japan’s best shredders: Narumi (Disqualia, LisaX, Rami),Saki (here in Nemophila), and LisaX Band (prolific prodigy phenomenon, turns 16 next month, but caught my attention playing with Saki at 11, composer, three releases on Sony). @@PositiveCrunch Amahiru should definitely be on your to-do list. Fred and Saki (❤️) have been friends since Mary's Blood supported DragonForce. And there is a track on Amahiru's self-titled album that has Elize Ryd from Amaranthe on vocals.

Honest reaction, I like that. I needed few songs to get used to Mayu's voice. Nemophila's original songs like Oiran and Raitei hits hard, but they have 2 more lighter: Life and Monsters ( this one only Tamu Murata's channel).

Great reaction. Check out their song "Oiran" if you want to see something really hard. Saki is an amazing guitarist. She seems to keep it down with this band to avoid overshadowing the other guitarist, Hazuki. Her other band is called Mary's Blood and she really cuts loose with them.

Yes!!! you dipped into NEMOPHILA🤘😃 I like this cover, but Mayu's vocals are deeper than original singer so i can understand your feelings. Just try an Original by them and you can hear their unique sound.

Mayu's singing voice is deeper than Michael's, so she has trouble getting to the high notes of this song.
I think their original song 'Oiran' showcases her voice the best.

Their original songs are very good and much better suited for Mayu's vocals. Some of their covers are awesome (Detroit Rock City was good) while others miss the mark but they're all fun to watch.

They were doing a COVER, not trying to be Helloween. Mayu is a GREAT singer, but she's not the guy from Helloween...and he's NOT Her!
I absolutely see what you mean about Mayu's vocals in this song. It's not exactly a song that plays to her strengths I think. Also I noticed that the vocal track sounds very "dry" in this recording. Much less in the way of effects than on the original. Mayu is great but she's not exactly a powermetal vocalist. You should definetely check out some of their other covers or some of their awesome originals! oh and I looooooove Haraguchi-San who plays bass here :)

I would recommend watching them playing an original song of theirs. This way Mayus (the singer’s) voice has much more power and she sounds of course more comfortable. I think in this performance as well as in other covers they did with English lyrics she had to concentrate more about pronouncing the words right than singing in a perfect pitch. And moreover it’s usually really difficult for Asian people to speak English. The guitarist on the right side speaks English way better than the singer. But I think as time goes she will get better and better. But for now I can recommend their original song „Oiran“ . I’m totally loving this song and it really showcases the vocal ability of the singer.

If you do want to try more Nemophila you should check out an original from the band instead or a cover. If you want to try another cover, the Maximum the Hormone cover is a good one. Mayu gets to sing in her native language and you may not be as familiar with the original, plus the growls and screams. czcams.com/video/2Q3fyW4FnJY/video.html. If you ever want to try a band that will completely mess with your mind try some original Maximum the Hormone, there are not too many (if any) bands like them. They are.....different. But I think in a good way. Not many people mix rock, hard rock, metal, thrash, screamo, techno, disco and rap in one song and somehow make it work.

Hello Positive Crunch, great reaction. I would like to introduce to you another kick ass metal band, Lovebites. These girls have tons of talent. If you can, please react to a song called "Shadowmaker". You will get vibes of Iron Maiden, Metallica, old school metal from the 80's. If you do see the video, just note that around 1:30 minutes into it, there will be a small promotion break that last about 20 seconds then goes back into the song. The band is technically accurate, but, too clean and lacking the " I dont give a f#%c what you think" attitude required of 80's metal. They are good and all, not saying they aren't. Now an all female punk band out of Japan that's worth a sh#%..... Red Bacteria Vacuum.....the song.. Roller Coaster. You wont be disappointed.

I can't find any updated information about them.
But ... are different things, Nemophila is a Superband, with multiple connections, open to various influences, with a focus on Power Metal. While Red Bacteria is or was an authentic punk band, as far as I can see.
Currently I think the closest would be Otoboke Beaver, a fiercely feminist punk, even though I haven't seen anyone say that, but to me it seems pretty clear.
If you like "dirty" sound and fast beat, try Kubihuri Dolls (首 振 り Dolls).
