    My Dad (R.I.P.) used to always remind me that the Bulls would have started their championship dynasty at least by 1989 if Jordan had any real help. I remember him always cussing out the tv whenever Pippen or Bill Cartwright came up short in games... Shit was pure comedy!!

      Absolutely. If 88-89 level Jordan plays with 91 level Pippen who was by then tougher, a better shooter and just more savvy about the game it’s probably at least one less championship for Detroit.

    The dictionary definition of "score at will"

  • @bballmemories
    @bballmemories Před 5 lety +35

    That was the last regular season game on NBC and many doubted if Mike was able to score at will anymore. The very next game on NBC, game 2 against the Bullets he dropped 55, missing only 13 shots (22 of 35). The 55 in the playoff was way more impressive than 65 in a meaningless regular season game. He did it at age 34, the most points in a playoff game at age 30 or older.

    • @PhantomDreamer_
      @PhantomDreamer_ Před 5 lety +4

      bballmemories I don't know if I would classify this particular game as "meaningless", clearly the Bulls were going for their 70th win and aiming for a 40-1 mark at home.

    • @bballmemories
      @bballmemories Před 5 lety +8

      @@PhantomDreamer_ winning 70 games again was nice but they were an older team. Pip, Rodman, Harper, Kerr, and Wennington were over 30. Their priority is to be healthy for the playoff and win another championship.

    • @popeyeisgood
      @popeyeisgood Před 5 lety +2

      i honestly believe that the difference between 69 and 70 is less than marginal for this bull team at that point. i agree that it is sort of meaningless if you think about how many games they have won from 96 to the end of 97 season.
      by the way, jordan was also on fire in this game shooting 64% from the field. if it were the rest of the team not doing much they could have easily won this one.

    • @bendcreagh
      @bendcreagh Před 5 lety +4

    No one can ever replicate that UNSTOPPABLE post up fade away (hanging in the air for days) mid-range jump shot. A perfect line drive. Kobe's the only one who ever did it justice.

  • @popeyeisgood
    @popeyeisgood Před 5 lety +67

    it is funny how much they hype up player like derozan to say that his mid range is comparable to jordan. it is not even close. just because some player choose not to shoot 3 likes the rest of the league doesn't make them comparable to jordan. this soon to be out of prime jordan we see here was still head and shoulder above most players in the history in terms of mid range shooting, and that includes prime curry, thompson , mullin, and even bird.

    • @kh70000

      popeyeisgood - that comes from little troll kids that can't even spell basketball. Dear Derozan isn't even on the same planet as MJ. I would say stylistcally, Kawhi is more similar to MJ but again, he's not MJ. Jordan did it all and affected the game in so many ways. So does Kawhi but not on the same level.
      Mjs on his own planet.

    • @Maxjuliann

    • @Daveyboy_GolfR
      @Daveyboy_GolfR Před 3 lety +2

      DeRozan's mid range game is comparable to Jordans? Like I said in my earlier comment, in the 90s, MJ's turnaround fadeaway (hanging for days) mid-range jump shot was not only unstoppable, but the best ever. People need to stop making comparisons to MJ. Bird called him God, Magic said there's MJ and then there's everyone else, Hakeem said it's not even fair to compare LeBron to MJ because he's so Superior to him. He's so Superior to everyone.
      His standard career stats like 30.1 PPG,
      10 scoring titles, 33.5 playoff PPG, 9x all defensive first team. 5 MVPs, 6 finals MVPs, 6 championships out of 6, 11x total points leader, 3x steals champion.1988 DPOY and scoring champion in the same year.
      Every one of those are still standing all-time records
      except his 5 regular season MVPs which he is in 2nd place behind Kareem who has 6.
      When people look at someone's career, all of those stats I mentioned (among others) are the first ones you see. And to this day he still holds those records and many many more.
      He played 12 full seasons with the bulls and won the scoring title 10 times and led the league in scoring 11 times. LeBron has played 18 seasons and won the scoring title once. MJ 3x steals champion. That's an all-time record. LeBron never was a steals champion. MJ had 9x all defensive first team honors. Bron has played five more seasons and has 5 first team defensive honors.
      I'm only bringing up LeBron because he's known as the second greatest player of all time and look at the difference between Jordan and the number two goat. Just simply showcasing the fact that Michael Jordan is a one-off. They're just won't ever be another like him.
