- If you're unhappy with your car photography, you might be missing one vital piece of equipment. I've been photographing cars and motorcycles professionally for almost 40 years, and aside from quality lenses, there's one tool I'd never be without, and that's a quality circular polarizing linear filter, or CPL for short.
I've used many brands over the last four decades, but these days, I use Kentfaith filters exclusively because of their high quality and massive range.
This video demonstrates how a CPL filter will improve your automotive photography, and how to use one correctly.
Thank you to Kentfaith for supporting this channel. #kentfaith

Cheers, Darryl. 👍
K&F filters are pretty good & your shots prove that!
@@peterviragphoto Yeah, I’d gotten a bit lazy with CPLs over the last few years, but they definitely make a difference with cars.
Thanks for the video, that was really well explained which helped me out and the results speak for themselves.
Thanks, Mal.
What a difference filter makes, thanks Peter
It certainly does, Paul. 👍
That was really helpful, thanks Peter.
@@johnbethell8666 Thx, John.
Nice one Peter - cars , photography and some well presented technical hints and gear. A pleasure to watch and ponder . 🥇
Thank you, Chris. 🙂
Great video Peter I knew what was coming from watching your previous video on this subject. Tried and tested by you speaks volumes of a fantastic product & company 👍
That’s very nice of you, Stuart - thank you.
Perfect subject and examples for a CPL lesson!
Thanks, Juanita. I hope you’re well, luv.
Hi Peter I have been watching some of your videos and enjoy them. I am currently looking to purchase a Hasselblad X2D with some lenses and was wondering where you purchased your from.
Thanks, Mauro. I was lucky to get an X2D from George’s in Sydney, whilst all my XCD lenses came from Camera Electronic in Perth.
Hi Peter l, hello from Northern Ireland. I’m a car and watch and your vids and life knowledge is on point and the car stuff is great.
Can I ask what watch you are wearing on this vid?
Thanks
Gary
Thanks, Gary. It’s a Christopher Ward Trident Pro 300. One of my favourite watches ever.
Very interesting video Peter! I usually shoot cars at Car shows ,which can be a real challenge. I noticed that didn't use a lens hood. I also noticed that used a tripod to get the sharpest image possible. I shoot the Canon EOS R , I use the 24-70 RF 2.8 as I go to lens. I also use my 16-35 EF F4 . Most of the time at car shows ,the light is hard! all you have for composition is someone sitting on a camp chair. I might try this as I am intrigued by the idea of reduced shadows and color saturation. I will need to practice with this setup .
Thanks, Greg. Yes, the light at car shows is tough, for sure. A CPL will definitely help.
Thanks for this Peter. Is the ND filter variable to 5 stops and if so is this additional to light loss due to CPL?
I have a cheap variable ND and it really struggles at higher numbers so it is true you get what you pay for. My CPL is average so I might purchase the combined K&F you featured.
Yes, that's correct. ND filters especially suffer if they're cheap, with many causing a dark cross to appear in images with wider lenses. The K&F ones don't have that problem.
Love a Polarizer - even better to use a second one on the lighting ...🦘
