  • From Mali to Sudan, Burkina Faso to Chad, coups have been spreading across Africa. In the midst of the chaos, Russia has seen an opportunity. The Kremlin is using disinformation and mercenaries to fuel instability in the region.
    This allows Russia to spread its influence while gaining access to valuable natural resources. In this episode, we investigate how Russia profits from instability in Africa.

    As soon as I seen Africa and Russia I knew Mali would be mentioned. I’m sad that you guys didn’t mention how much France exploits West Africa especially Mali. They stole gold and have been there for more than 10 years and still haven’t accomplished not a single thing.

France took alot of wealth of French speaking African nations and still controll 100% CFA and the monetary reserve is in Paris and they dictate CFA policy over these countries. Many Francophone African nations where former colonies of France ( many ''economically still are). Many French Africans have sacrificed their lives for the French republic during ww1 and ww2. Many people that where dicplaced by French actions in Mali and other West Africans nations where provided a place to live in France

      There are a few of us who are trying to start a native economy so you have a leg to stand on. Not many, but a few. The best thing you can do (in my ignorant opinion) is make sure the government allows foriegn investment without bribary and make sure you don't become beholden to Shell oil company types who are equaly exploititave. Other thsn that, keep the peace without need of mercinaries. That means local militia groups with the responsibility to police the countryside and the towns they are based out of.

    You can't blame these African countries for opening their arms to Russia and China. Western countries like France still have death grips on lots of African countries (even though they are technically independent) and have been one of the main factors that have put them in the situations they are today. You can debate how helpful Russia and China are but you can not deny a large amount of blame is on the west actions (past and present) for how situation are developing in africa.

    First France started the private army concept with their foreign legion. Then Britain entered the game post WW2 in Africa with their band of mercenaries. Then came the Americans with Eric Prince, Halliburton and Blackwater in the African continent region known as middle east. No one batted an eyelid as all this European led endless wars unfolded. Now Russia has entered the fray and western media pounces on them for being mercenaries? Wonder what the western media's reaction will be when China and India eventually enter the private army market.

    As an AfricanAmerican, a descendant of those millions taken from Africa to LatinAmerica/NorthAmerica, Africa is a playing ground back & forward between foreign peoples, foreign nations, & foreign religions. Islamic jihads vs Christian colonizers interests, white colonized nations like the US & Brazil vs European countries interests, Arabs & China’s interest in Africa…. Back & forth, African blooded people always looking outside of ourselves for help.     I went to Somalia with MSF Spain in the 1990's. The first time in 1993 when I lived in Adaan Yabaal. I believe it's now under Al Shabaab control. The last time I was there doing logistics 1998 in Jowhar My boss in Mogadishu revealed to us all proudly that he was a state terrorist trainer prior to humanitarian. He had trained Suhartos military before returning too Palmerola Honduras, America's Backyard in the second half of the 80's. To train La Contra etc. I see Al Shabaab is doing well, with new uniforms and explosives to carry out their lethal attacks. And the US has troops back in Mogadishu.

      The problem is with African culture, they have a dependence mentality, always expecting someone to help them with their situation. That’s why everyone(West, Russia and China) takes advantage of them. This dependence mentality is even more so among themselves, for example, every family member and relative expects that one successful person in that family to help them for free.

    my dad worked in mali for the un, the anti-french sentiment has to do with how long and much they've been involved in playing their hands in the local geopolitics. However the help the french provided to quell terrorists in the north was important and couldve been much much worse if they werent there. The local government however is also to blame cause typical corruption and underpaid army and police forces and embezzled money. Theres well-meaning politicians but they are so few that being able to do anything game changing is impossible

      Corruption in Africa is a myth perpetuated by the west---think about it, nobody steals money or extorts it from the public so as they can stash it under their mattresses. In reality, what is largely stolen from Africa ends up as capital flight in dollars to the West, and none of that stolen loot is EVER boycotted or repatriated back to where it came from, it helps to grow the economies in the West....
      What Africa wants to do, is crackdown on illicit capital flight and money laundering....
      France has it's-own domestic problems, and its time for it to return home and focus on those...

      Absolutely untrue, where you register your company has huge impact on regulation. It's extremely difficult and sensitive to start a PMC in any western country, and they're typically disbanded after any sort of incident.

This video is actually great material for teaching people about how intelligence agencies create and promote deceptions, it pretty much checks every box in the manual. Another great example is the video by the "Council on Foreign Relations" about the 2008 crash where the true villains are all hailed as heroes.
