Wow, seriously thank you everyone. Several of you have asked for affiliate links (also, thanks!) so I'm going to do what one of my favorite CZcamsrs does (Binging with Babish) and provide both non-affiliate and affiliate links so you can pick your own adventure! In case you don't know: if you click on an affiliate link and buy something, the person posting the link earns a small commission (e.g., from Amazon) but the price to you is the same. Why post both link types? Because I'm making these videos for the love of it. And if you want to purchase through an affiliate link, I want that to be a conscious choice you get to make.

Finally! a video that explains all I need to know about lighting without suggesting I spend £1,000s on pro kit.
I know! I thought this info was sorely needed on CZcams. Great lighting for everyone! Lol.
Really very good, she know's what she is talking about, not only that, she has a way of explaining things that anyone can understand.
@@JulieSchiro ...Julie where you at??....4 months since your last video
I'm here! Next one is in the works, I swear!
@@JulieSchiro please more great content!
I spent 30 years teaching and this is a well prepared and executed lesson. Great job. I subscribed !
Thank you Ian! And welcome!! 😊
Ok. I'm a fan. As a former theatre light specialist, I loved the way you broke down the information for 'talking to camera' filming, but more so I loved your presentation and examples. And your 'stage presence' is just a delight to watch.
Justin, this makes my day! The fact that you were in theatre makes me feel extra honoured by your comment. Thanks so much! 😊
This was SUPER HELPFUL! I’m trying to figure out how to combine my window natural light with artificial light! Truly appreciate your help and humor!
Thank you so much Nicole! 😊
I just had an 8am online class (8am..I KNOW RIGHT!!!) and used some of the techniques in this video....it took years off my age....I look 21 again and the students were hyper-engaged!
Gavin, I love this! 🙌 21 again!! 🙌
Okay, she’s by far the easiest person on youtube that made me click that subscribe button.
Ahahaha Dewi, I love this comment, thank you.
Same here
Yeah such a nice vibe right?! No nonsense, just good tips with a sprinkling of fun humour. Good stuff!
Yeah. Hope she rest wouldn't get caught in all the buZz of millions of subscribers.. I clicked subscribe on the first video I watch of her. I'm usually don't recommend this channel sort of person.
That moment at 0:27 is so perfectly timed, it could've been from a Pixar movie.
Hahaha thanks Niek!
Tysm! I got some 8$ Walmart lights and set them to a really soft color and opened up my window! I look like a glam queen now lol 😂
Ahahaha I love this 😂. Awesome. 👏
As a video professional from film school to digital today, I loved the way you did 3 point lighting. Sent your url to a client who is in need.
Well Done and keep it real.
Awesome! Comments like these always make my day. Thanks @FLPAUS!
I am very impressed with your lighting hacks. Really good. Thank you (Andri, Indonesia)
Thanks so much Andri! Cool to see the video reached all the way to Indonesia. Love it. Greetings from Ireland.

The only channel which suggested "no need for costly set-ups". The Channel is like FRESH AIR !
Thanks so much @79MD!
Wow. From 30 subscribers to almost 40K in two years, with just five videos. You just make REALLY good content. I'm a content marketing editor, and I'm super impressed. Such a testament to your skill--and to how powerful helpfully crafted material and solid UX are!

You are like a breath of fresh air. So nice to watch you.❤️ Very informative!
Thank you so much Sahana! 😊
I enjoy your subtle humor. Solid info also. At 72, I tell my husband I look younger on ZOOM with "enhance appearance" turned on than I do in real life.
Holy smokes someone explained it in actual plain language, I'm so grateful 😭💜😭
Really wonderful content! Crisp explanation and engaging. The monitor hack is wow!
Hi Sarthak, thank you so much! I love the monitor hack too :p
Also a quick tip when choosing LED bulbs, pay attention to their color temperature (warm/neutral/cool white) *and* CRI (color rendering index) which is very important in the light quality. Look for a CRI of 90 or more for best results.
Hadn't heard of the CRI - will check that out. Thanks Alex!
The best video I have seen about lighting. Thanks
Thanks so much @History 360!
Julia, A video on how to make presenting appear so effortless would be fab. You’re the best!
Julie! This was amazingly good! I've not seen such a concise and well put video on lighting on youtube. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for the nice note! 😊
Amazing, all remote teachers should see this
Thanks so much Fernando!
Hi Julie, I have been Visual Merchandising Manager for Myer stores for many years and I understand the need for good lighting like you do, although most people tend to overreach and create more problems for themselves.
I produce professional training videos for an International RTO and I need to commend you on your presentation .... you added personality and fun without overdoing it. Keep up the good work. I look forward to see more of you and your work! Frank.
I’m a digital marketing instructor and you just solved my dilemma- the word hack was AWESOME!!!’ I’ve subscribed and I turned the bell on. More please!!!!
Hi Catherine - I'm obsessed with the word hack lol! Thanks for the nice comment and sub!!
This has been one of the best explained videos I've watched on zoom lighting!
Hi Chloe, thank you so much!
This was amazing! Thank you Julie! You were super informative, friendly and I had a lot of fun watching this tutorial! Cheers!
Thanks so much Tony, really appreciate it!
I like you! You’re so chilled and very natural on camera. You are a very charismatic professor.
WOW...just wow. GREAT INFO, thank you!
Ah thank you so much! 😊
Awesome! In addition to the extremely useful content, I'm impressed by your delivery: crisp, concise, with a thread of good-natured humor to boot. Thoroughly engaging, and I can't wait for the next one. Congratulations!
Hi Richard, Thank you so much for the nice comment!!
I already understand lighting pretty heavily, but I was genuinely really interested in your video overall lol, I was just curious through the entire thing
Ah thank you so much @SnowyBlizzard.
Finally somethign that actually explains! Subbed :)
Ah thanks so much @CCCokie Cia!
Indie cyberpunk musicians here. Your channel is great. We've discovered similar setups from experimentation, and like to see what others are doing. Folx will do well with your tips and we can add that for recording, the Shure SM7b (plus interface and Focusrite ISA One preamp) has been the top for us (we use Macs and PCs), but for other mic options, one could use your mic suggestions, or even go with a canny but affordable Blue Snowball USB mic if they just need a cheap upgrade from their internal mic. Your green screen tips are also great and one of us has even used a bright green cardboard from Office Depot suspended by hooks in the ceiling before. Love how you cover creative uses for tools as well as tool options for different budgets.
Hey guys! Thanks for the nice comment and for sharing your gear tips too. I have been eyeing the SM7b...it takes that podcast voice to the next level, but didn't realize it was popular with musicians too! What's Folx? Also, brilliant hack with the Home Depot cardboard.
@@JulieSchiro Folx is just folks with a spotlight on inclusivity. Not a mandatory spelling. MJ used the SM if I recall. But yeah it handles all kinds of singing better than any mics we’ve used or investigated. With the right preamp and interface, it’s gold. Makes any genre of singing or podcasting way easier to mix too.
Brilliant - thanks Julie!
Thanks so much @Big Car!
New channel or not, algorithm brought me to you and I'm here to stay. I really loved your work on this video, the quality of the content, cadence and length were spot on and if you compound that with yout amazing looks and energetic personality, well... we've got ourselves a recipe for success! Wish you all the best.
This made my day, Francisco! Thank you 😊
This is just the video I needed to see. Its one to build a studio but its nice to see it from the perspective of an "At home" studio. Nice video Julie. Looking forward to seeing more.
You are a marketing professor who knows and excel at so many stuff like photography, gardening and food. Please keep making such fun to watch yet highly informative videos. Your way of presenting the knowledge makes it so easy on mind to grasp it and apply it in real life. Awesome!!!
Thank you so much Shubbam!!
I really really love your personality and tips! You're definitely going to be a lot bigger!!!!!!
Thanks so much for the nice comment and encouragement!
Great video! I really appreciate the in-depth analysis of the background, but I didn't mind the version with the black background either! I once tried a low-key version of that without the black screen. Basically a very bright key light and then lower the exposure in camera so the background turns almost black. Yours definitely looks more authentic and it's the style I use the most. Thanks!
Thanks so much! I like the black background too. Gives that studio vibe!
love people that love what they do, passion is key. Congrats!
Thank you so much @Coresential OFJ!
Absolutely the best! Straight to the point, with immensely helpful video examples, well edited, articulate, great audio recording with no loud music to make the audio incomprehensible, back to back answered quite a few technical questions in my mind. I don't need to be in your class to realize what a great instructor you are. Please keep the videos coming!
"Just being extra." Annnnndddd....I'm a fan!! So insightful and fun! Thanks Julie! Came for the tips, hit subscribe because I love your vibe! :-D Thanks!!
😂😂 thanks for making my night with this comment, Jenny. I put that apron on whenever it is even tangentially relevant.
Perfect! As clear and concise as the Omni channel module of yours that I sat last year! This will come in handy with future meetings with clients 😁 thanks a mil!
Jack, this makes my night! Thanks for the comment 😀
You're the best presenter I've ever seen! I've subbed! I've just walked into a job where presenting to clients is a key requirement... Boy could I do with a crash course from you!
Fantastic video! I already spent $300 on lights but now I feel much better about them because I know what to do with them and why I want them. Thank you!
I loved the simple explanations! (Also, please be careful with that bounce board lololol).
Hi Lauren, that bounce board though. I think I need an adult. Lol. Glad you liked the vid!
Adorable. Thank you so much for expressing your personality authentically anddddd the great tips!
Hahah thansk so much NASH!
You help me a lot. I just get a new job as an operation lead. And during training, some of my colleagues compliments my look and video setting. Cause its very clear and look professional. I’m following your tips. Thank you!!
That makes me so happy to hear!
Wow. If this was video two, you’re crushing it. Well done and thanks for the tips
Thanks so much Liam!
Cute, informative, funny, well done editing. All around great video!
Thank you!! This is exactly the info I was looking for.
Awesome! Thanks for the comment
Just going to watch all your videos because I enjoy your presence so much!
Ah thanks so much Aly!
You ROCK! this video is awesome and, unlike others I've seen with obnoxious people that can't stop using consultant-talk, you are extremely likeable and speak like a normal person!!
Ahaha thank you so much!
excellent content, instruction, and personality! Thank you T.T
Thanks for the nice note Eric!
Thank you for the yellow screens tip!!! AMAZING!!!!! :))))))
Thanks so much Erin! Yes the yellow screen is a game changer!!
For actual yellow light, you could try f.lux
It's a free opensource software that offers light temperature tuning.
So helpful. As a priest in the UK, like many, I am spending so much time online and on a limited budget. It's good to have the principles explained rather than simply being told what to do. Now to attack my lighting issues. Thank you Julie.
Thank you for the lovely comment. So cool! Made my day knowing this helped you.
Great info & thanks for including the end "bloopers" - very funny!
I just nailed an audition because of you!!🔥🔥 keep up the good work!🔥💯👍🏽
Landon, that's awesome!! I'm stoked these tips helped. Thank you 😊
Bounce board scene was nice😂😂
Btw am a new subscriber 😁❤️
😂😂😂. Thanks for the nice comment and sub Shadil!
You're rockin it Julie!!
She is so easy and relaxing, maybe cute to listen to with proper research, precise information, and keeping to the point - here being 'no extra cost'. At this point I'm convinced like if a video is put out, enough work will have been done behind it and will be worth the while. Happy to see her grow. 🙏🏻👍🏻
Thanks so much Sethu!!
Always remember, good bathrooms have lights on the two sides of the mirror. That's a good starting point for most people to start thinking of how to work with light.
That is such a good point!!
This is amazingly informative and entertaining, ♥️'d it
Thank you so much, Kenneth!!
I love you dark/funny personality. It's enjoyably contrasting.
I love watching smart people. Great channel, keep the videos coming.
Amazing - video, info., narration, humor, all in just right amount, I have subscribed, this channel is a superliked and supersubscribed channel in making!!
Wow thank you so much Gaurav! Much appreciated 😊
Great Video! I love your tipps and you’re just so cute in the end :)
Thank you so much Noémie!
This was one of the most helpful, to the point videos I’ve seen. I now know exactly what I’m going to use at my house for lighting, including my umbrella and a yellow document! Who knew?!!!
Hahaha thank you so much Angelina! Love this
Great video! And the bounce board 🤣🤣
“A marketing professor” OMG.
How is my marketing professor is also fun?!
All marketing ppl seem to be fun!

You should do a video about makeup for Zoom :)
Lol! Lots of mascara. LOTS of mascara.
Thanks for the airbrushing, Zoom 😂
As a former teacher, I can see you're a natural at teaching. I hope to see more teaching videos from you. Thanks
Thanks so much Gray! 😊
Dr. Julie, I just rewatched your lighting video, (AGAIN), and I am just amazed at the content. You put so much work into them, that you effortlessly (at least for me) allow us to absorb the practical and theory at the same time, so that we just understand WHY something works, and we know how to replicate that. I hate to repeat myself, but....BRAVO! Wow, Doc. You are amazing. With most youtube videos, one viewing is more than enough. With your videos, they just get better with each viewing. Great job.
I'm so flattered! Thank you Reed. It's so nice to know that the effort is noticed and appreciated. They take me weeks to make!
This was so helpful! I've been researching lighting tips and this was just what I needed. I've already changed some things in my office and I know it's going to help on my next videos. Thank you so much.
Thanks makes me so happy to hear! Thanks for letting me know and good luck no your next videos!
There’s Something about her that’s cute af
I agree beo
WOW! I love this.

Hi Picchio, thank you! Really appreciate the nice comment.
Absolutely ADORBS Julie‼️💕
Aw, thank you so much Linette!! 😊
thank you soo much for your videos! I was about too go buy a new webcam, but your videos taught me how to get something extra out of my old one. Together with your non sponsored webcam video I realised that I am already fine and wouldn't get an improvement out of most of the other (affordable) solutions....You saved me a lot of money.
Wow that was excellent. Really informative and you delivered it in a really fun way. Well done.
This is the most useful and detailed description I've seen of good lighting. I especially like the way you give examples of what good and bad lighting looks like and why they are good or bad. Thank you!
Thank you so much Brad!
Thank you so much for this video. You explained it so easily and well!
Great tutorial. Thanks for the light!
Thank you so much! Was thinking of buying a new camera and a $128 light. After watching this I placed my lights like you said and wow, I can see the picture clear 1080p now! Saved me $ now I can spend it on tge stream deck I want and a 12 foot 4k hdmi cable to run my ps5 to a capture card without moving it! Just awesome
