The new Bills stadium is going to be called Highmark Stadium. Highmark decided to extend the naming rights and will keep the same name. The existing Highmark Stadium will be torn down to make way for parking. Also, the Bills are looking to create a stadium district similar to Patriot Place or The Battery in Atlanta.

Yup. If now Ex New York Governor Andrew Cuomo did not get involved (he is also a Long Island native I believe)in helping to build the now USB/Belmont Park Arena, the Islanders would have left the NYC metro region for good.
Ps USB/Belmont Park is the perfect location for the Islanders for at least hopefully 30 years minimum (maybe more) for a variety of reasons. 1)Right on the NYC/Long Island Border so fans in both the NYC boros and most of Nassau and Suffolk Counties can attend. 2)Unlike the old Coliseum, this current one is right on a major Long Island Railroad Station with access to both Brooklyn/Manhattan and most of the Island. Helpful for those without any personal car/vehicle.

I’m from New York and a Mets fan. I love Ginger’s vids and watch most of them, but I’d appreciate him actually visiting the stadiums and talking about the experiences. For example, the vibe around Shea Bridge is really great at Citi Field and really plays positively into the experience, as well as the kickass pro-shops there. Also, I’ve been to most of the stadiums in the MLB, and Citi, hands-down, has the best food out of all the stadiums I’ve been to. Maybe Oracle Park has a little competition, but I still think Citi takes the cake. Literally.

I do agree that a retractable roof for Citi Fleld or Yankee Stadium seems like a long shot. I wonder if it may be more feasible to cover either of those with a translucent roof. It would still be expensive as hell but would not require as much additional support structure to hold the roof up. That way you get the coverage of having a roof but the benefit of allowing natural light in. I still think it's unlikely though.

      Agreed
But a roof of any kind would eliminate rainouts / weather issues. It would no longer be an inconvenience.

The Islanders never played at MSG. They played at the Nassau Coliseum, then moved to Barclays, moved back to the Nassau Coliseum then finally the UBS Arena. Also if you look at the calendar the Yankees had 1 home rain out all season in 2023. The other postponed game was June 7th due to the Canadian wildfires, so a roof would not have made a difference. You know what's beyond the left field upper deck at Citi Field? A barren industrial wasteland called the Iron Triangle that was once filled entirely with auto garages and sheds that no one wanted to look at because it looked like a 3rd world country over there. It's been a blight on the city of NY since Shea Stadium opened and they've been trying to rehabilitate that area forever. One administration after another have tried and it finally started gaining traction in the last 5 years. I always hoped the Mets would open up a baseball centric entertainment district akin to the Braves new SunTrust Park over there. As somebody who lives in Syracuse, I can tell you the amount of natural light we get here is pretty nonexistent.
Syracuse, I believe, is ranked dead last in the US for amount of annual sunlight... which is also why we are the Multiple Sclerosis and snow capitol of the country. Lucky us. So no matter what SU did, the chance of getting natural light is near impossible.
While we are at it, since you've brushed on Syracuse, I would love to hear your take on a new location for the Syracuse Mets. It has been a highly debated topic whether they should build a new downtown ballpark. If you look into the history of the old P&C Stadium, it is actually quite interesting. They built the thing by Carousel Mall (now Destiny) and the transportation hub in Syracuse, perhaps trying a AAA ballpark village? It didn't work. And they unknowingly built it on literal swamp land which delayed the construction by years. And all that snow didn't help- it kept the ground too wet to stabilize anything. As soon as they would make a progress, a random September blizzard would wipe away all that work.

The Jets stadium in the west side of Manhattan would create a nightmare issue. Infrastructure is very important as well, subways and streets surrounding the stadium isn't set up for a stadium of this magnitude. NYC already grapples with tourism surges as well as being an overcrowded city. I don't know how you get 70,000 fans in and out of the west side of Manhattan for an event. When a game ends, you can only fit so many people onto a subway platform. This would require crowd control by cutting off the entry of riders to a subway station until a platform clears out. Basically, its more than just building a stadium.

@Depressed Ginger: A "retractable roof" over Citi Field might be like that sliding Kansas City roof idea, in one of your other videos, so that it could cover Citi and NYCFC Fields as needed. Might as well get the two-fer while you're at it and have both teams kick in (if you will). The Tennis Center is next door-- have them explain how their retractable roofs work... ;-)

The thing with the obnoxiously giant walls/advertising at both Yankee Stadium and CitiField isn't intended to take away views of the city so much as it is to make it harder,or impossible, for fans outside of the stadium to see inside. It's the same reason the Green Monster at Fenway Park exists. Greedy owners. When you rode the 4 train pulling up to the 161 Street-Yankee Stadium stop, you could see into the stadium through a sliver in the walls, and I think you could even see into the stadium, albeit partially, from the uptown platform of the station. When the new Stadium was built, they made a point of closing off the walls. The stadium itself is a wind tunnel when it's cold, but with such a traditional culture,it won't see a roof anytime soon. I think the only way Yankee Stadium would ever have a roof is if the climate gets so bad,you can't breathe outside - basically if the atmosphere becomes like Venus, lol. That said, new stadiums should just be either retractable-roof, or closed domes. It's the future. Players and fans want to be comfortable. Being a Giants fan,I don't want to spend 4 hours in the rain, snow,or cold, watching my shitty-ass team getting smacked around every week (look at Week 1 against the Cowboys last year), on top of paying hundreds to sit so far up I'm looking at the scoreboard most of the game. I just don't see the point of open-air stadiums in cold-weather cities

Love your videos, man. But one thing that I disagree with you on is this obsession with retractable roofs. I get why you feel they’re needed. But let’s face it. Stadiums are becoming uglier and blander even with those monstrosities. Let’s keep stadiums simple. I’m waiting for designers to go back to having stadiums be like the old yards. That’s the reason I think PNC works. It’s a simple design. Nothing fancy. But the views, the simplicity, two decks, smaller capacity. That’s what gives the place a unique charm, a personality. Most of the recently built stadium are ugly, and they just plain suck.

Another 35-40 years?!! Old Yankee Stadium, if you include the renovated version, lasted 85 years. This new one is not my favorite, but it's state of the art and has everything you need for, - you know - BASEBALL. It should last a long, long - long time. Same with Citi Field. Not just the city council but James Dolan and MSG was a huge roadblock. In the MSG lease it stated that no other stadium should be built on Manhattan and the Knicks and Rangers can never be the home team in a regular season/playoff game outside of MSG unless Dolan waves it under circumstances. That's why when the Rangers played the Isles at Citi field the Isles were the home team

The recent AZ vs Yankees series was an absolute clown show during the tropical storm. Puddles all over the warning tracks, kitty litter having to be applied to the infield after every inning, and CLEAR home runs and routine fly outs being influenced by high winds in hilarious ways. This game is so easily tainted by weather so i don't understand how any stadium built in the last 25 years wouldn't at least have something to prevent drizzle from hitting the field.

ETFE is a newer material that makes translucent plastic domes or even "glass" panels possible... Almost all the newest of the new stadiums use it.. And because it's so lightweight yet strong it could make it a lot easier to retrofit stadiums with domes without adding structural weight or that much cost compared to the previous materials used... And with climate change making most places hotter I think adding domes just makes sense, especially if you think you are going to keep using your venue for decades to come...
