They got plastic gear teeth in there which is stupid. After so many openings and closings, the teeth break off. My Carmine Red C5 has 190K miles on it and is a "newbie" compared to yours. However, my seats were shot as well. I bought new hides for under $600 through Ridies in Houston off eBay. Quality of materials and assembly is unmatched, even if from Karachi, Pakistan. Can't say anything but nice things about them.Recovering C5 seats is a walk in the part for an average person with average skills and tools and can easily be done in an afternoon. I repaired the biscuits as needed with Gorilla Tape and put a piece of carpet over the wires in the seat bottom to remedy the wires cutting into the biscuit.Seriously-where can you get a "toy" for $3,500? High mileage, yes, but clearly a good deal that you should be able to enjoy, even with a baby on the way. Good luck Dad, and enjoy the car.

Hey, as long as you're happy with it that's all that matters. My 3rd vette was a 98. My fourth (and current vette) is a 2004, so, obviously, I liked the C5 body style. Not too crazy about the frog lights, but they grow on me. I guess the one thing I liked about the C5 was the retractable lights. The one thing I didn't like about my 98 was the dual instances of the dreaded steering column lock. Two times I needed a flatbed. But because I liked the model so much I figured with a 2004 they'd have worked the bugs, and that was addressed without having to install an aftermarket ignition bypass. I purchased my 04 for 25K with 25k miles. I don't see myself parting with it anytime soon it's just so much fun to drive. No worries about the audio levels, just enjoy the ride. I'd say you got a damn good deal bro. The exhaust, wheels (which aren't stock for that vette), and headlights, would cost around $2k-$2.6k alone.
You can fix that crack in the bumper for less than $20. Just go buy some Liquid nails plastic bond, and some fiberglass mat. Use a Dremel to make a small groove on the front, then line it up, tape it on the back to hold in place, then use the plastic bond to fill in the crack, then place small strips of the fiberglass mat over it, wait for it to dry, then take the tape off the back and put some plastic bond over the crack with the mat over it. After that sand the front down till its smooth and blends with the rest of the bumper. I did this to my Z06 but it was a 5" crack straight down from the edge of the turn signal light. Can't even tell there was ever a crack there and its stronger than it was. Oh... and don't forget leg day! lol

All in all, I would say well bought. I currently have a C7 (2017)...In the past, I owned 2 C5's (99 and a white 04), and 3 C4's (86, 91, 95)...all of mine have been coupes. Starting with the C5, The Corvette truly became a car that could be an everyday driver...before that, the ride and the rattles were a bit rough. One things for certain, if you ever need parts, you're driving a car that has an abundance of aftermarket stuff out there...if you ever decide to go all the way and fix things up, there are plenty places like Mid America Corvette and Ecklers to help you out! Chevy V8 engines are some of the most durable out there, overall, so, if it's been rebuilt right, then you gotta lotta miles left! Sounds like the 2 big things (transmission; engine) have already been fixed...some years have had problems with the distributor eventually going out, but that was worse on the c4's than the c5's. The fact that the interior is black is great, as well...because black often hides any stains on seat belts, etc., on many a used car; and white always tends to make Corvettes look new no matter what!!! And it looks like one or two new door cards and two new seat covers, whenever the time is right, and you could have a new looking interior. You can score some serious parts on eBAy like door cards from time to time for low money if you're patient! I always liked my C5's because you could load those mothers up with luggage out the ying yang and take a road trip just about anywhere!!! Anyways, best of luck to you, man!!! It looks like you've got it going on with a beautiful girl, a new baby and a damn cool daily driver!!!

Dude, Congrats on your first C5. My family owns a car dealership in Sarasota, FL. and they usually have 35-40 Corvettes at any given time, C5 C6 and C7's mostly, we have had several others, they just sold a 61 and a 62 last month. They had a huge Corvette sale come up in Orlando, so right now they have only a handful. They don't buy from auctions, so they send out mailers to every Corvette owner from Sarasota to Naples ( about 100 miles on I-75). The average age is damn near dead, and I really believe the nicest cars in the world come from our area. To give you an example, they have an 02 with 20k miles, and an 03 with 30k. That's around average miles for this area. They sold an 04 conv. with 57k miles before that huge Corvette sale, and THAT was considered high mileage. The highest mileage C5 I think they ever traded for had 190k on it. They sell tons at auction, but only buy from new car dealers, or individuals. They specialize in higher end cars. Instead of wholesaling that Vette I recommended to my dad to put it on Craigslist, and it brought $8988. (Exactly what I told him to advertise it for, and he could have sold it 100x over.) Sorry for the novel, but you did really good!! (Also, they didn't make any orange color in the C5's so it was probably Torch Red) Take care of that and it will be bulletproof. On a lighter note, I thought you were going to show a video of your wife hitch hiking when you said you were expecting a baby! (Just my humor.) You did good bro. For $3500 you got yourself a Vette with a decent body. She sounds strong and appears to run well. Of course you'd expect some interior wear (seats, door panels, etc.) after 300K miles but I think it was a steal. Good luck with it

Dude, Borla exhaust for a vette installed is about 2 grand. If its from the axel back, a little less. Those ZR1 wheels are worth at least a grand without the tires. So basically you got the car for 500 bucks and a radiator repair. What's not to like? For about 500 bucks you can get both seats recovered in leather. You backed into a deal there, feel happy about it. Good job.
