  • Took some time this weekend to build the pull out bed for my Nissan NV200 Camper Conversion. I followed the article I found on REI here bit.ly/3hgbtbM and made some small changes to work better with my van. I skipped the last portion involving adding plywood to the top of it at this moment but will consider adding it on if I find its needed.
    While the length of the video is long, I feel like showing as much as possible in videos like this is helpful.
    Article with plans and instruction on REIs website

As much as I love money, I would highly suggest giving yourself at least 48 hours before any purchase decision and asking yourself “Do I really need this?”. I hope more times than not, you find yourself saying “I Definitely do NOT need this”. If you find yourself still in need, shop around and find the best deal for your money.
    Please note that I am not recommending any of the gear seen in any of my videos. The gear I use is what I have found works best for me at the time period I am using it. I have come to these gear choices through vast levels of trial, error, and experimenting with gear out on trail.

    I like the modest, rookie attempts to get the DIY sliding bed project done. The second guessing yourself, getting it wrong until you got it right, showing mistakes and fails and all until you got it the way you wanted makes this video tops and worth thumbs up 👍. Best line: it looks good, it's clean- just doesn't work! Hilarious. The whole purpose of a sliding bed, is it's gotta slide out. Great job.

      If you have not purchased the NV200 consider a typical minivan. Nicer interior amenities, essentially same interior space and more models/options to choose from. I’m on my second van, 1st Honda Odyssey now Toyota Sienna.

    @Zerpersande Před rokem

    I watch this video while cleaning and adjusting m6 coffee grinder and then making a cup of coffee. So I didn’t pay complete attention to the video. Of course, neither did I pay complete attention to making my cup of coffee so I now have a less than ideal cup. Kind of like the result you got on the bed. But my coffee is more than acceptable and I think your bed is the same.
    Perhaps the thing that I like best about your video is it I think that it’s realistic so far as having to deal with all these little problems that arise during a build. If problems don’t arise then either the person is a complete and total professional that has done this many times before and has tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of tools, or as I think, often happens, the owners of the channel didn’t do all the work.
    Thanks for listing the link to the build diagram. I’m not really hot on by pocket hole jig. Sure, it makes the end result look better, but I’m not going for looks. I’m going for a function. Also, I want to see if I can modify that to maximize storage space under the bed. My current plan is that my refrigerator is going to be in someplace under there.
    So I got a lot out of this video and subscribed. You now have a subscriber in Japan.

    If you end up doing any urban camping in this (you will), you're probably going to want the bed on the passenger side. Reason is, most streets are convex for rain drainage and, on the steeper embanked streets, having the bed on the driver's side feels like you're getting rolled out into the aisle (getting rolled into the wall feels much better). Of course this only matters when the bed is in " single" mode.

    • @ChrisGoesOutdoors
      @ChrisGoesOutdoors  Před 4 lety +1

      That could definitely work. And maybe worth looking into. Even like a rubber gym mat that I could cut into two pieces and stack on top each other until using. Will see how it goes. I have two of the 72” foldable closed cell foam backpacking style sleeping pads and they are usually with me on trips I’d be using this to sleep in so they maybe a good no additional cost option

    • @ChrisGoesOutdoors
      @ChrisGoesOutdoors  Před 4 lety +1

      Not really existent haha. I can technically sit up right on the wood but my head brushes the ceiling, if I wanted to be able to have clearance I would have had to have made the bed like just go over the wheel well. I felt the height I made it reached a happy medium of enough space to mostly sit up but also still gives decent storage space under the bed

    • @ChrisGoesOutdoors
      @ChrisGoesOutdoors  Před 4 lety +1

      Can easily reach right under the bed from the back or anywhere along the sides as well. If the bed is folded out it maybe a little trickier. I considered the option to put like a pull out drawer underneath with access from the back but don’t think I’ll be going that route. Just don’t think it would be necessary in my case
