So glad I subscribed to you! After DSL just dropped off the face of the planet, I started to look for another to get my Disney fix at, and now that you're back to uploading, my prayers have been answered!
This irritates me, cuz the best part about Tiana is her drive. the "advice" they're trying to give her is pretty much "your restaurant is too far out of reach. You don't need that. You should settle. That's what you need." But, if she did that, she wouldn't be happy. If everyone in the world just settled instead of striving for more, we wouldn't be so advanced today. What she was doing isn't bad. It's good, it how you succeed. I'm glad she got it anyway.
I think the problem was that she was chasing her dream so much that she forgot how to actually enjoy herself bc as much as working for your future is important at any day you could die and if you just waste your life thinking of the future you forget to live in the present. It's all about that balance

I don’t think the song really meant that. Basically what Mamma Odie said to Tiana was that she needed to find her worth beyond what she could achieve. Her self worth and self esteem shouldn’t be tied to how hard she works. It was good for her to find fulfillment and a purpose , of course. But in the end , she was gonna achieve it and then what? Whenever you put all your faith and all your self worth into just one thing, you’ll never have enough of it. I don’t know if you’re religious( particularly a Chrisitian), if you are, you can check out Ecclesiastes. That book is brilliant and it does talk about the main theme of this song. Or if you are not religious, you can check out David Foster Wallace’s “this is water” speech. It’s on CZcams. They both talk about where do we lay our self-worth. I love this song because it reminded me of both of those. And they’ve been fundamental in my own healing process
