    great video, but I find it baffling that all this training crap from cisco: tests, books, images, labs, is all requiring a purchase. that I have to purchase a virtual router or switch from cisco to train and learn their stuff so my company can purchase and buy more real crap, is borderline antagonistic. cisco's nickel and diming mentality is going to be their downfall. in fact, its already starting. resting on your big customer base will only get you so far. eventually that base will erode. if I'm mistaken, someone advise how i can get free virtual image of basic cisco appliances. im not going to try to rip off cisco by running a huge workload in VMware player on my 8GB laptop!

    Thank you very much Mr. David. Can you please make an other video about How to share or co-collaborate the GNS3 VM whit your friends over the Internet securely?
    I have a powerful PC (Ryzen 7 2nd Gen, 16 GB of RAM) and I want to practice and share projects whit my friends and see their practices and changes in real time, my friends in other had don't have a powerful PC, I want them to install the GNS3 Client and then point to my PC over the internet securely so they can reach the GNS3 VM that it is installed on my Computer.
    Is basically the same implementation of Cloud Computing video of Network Chuck, @Tvrs in his video he shows how to install GNS3 whit Microsoft Azure.
    But for economics reasons, especially to reduce cost or don't have the money 💰 to buy Microsoft Azure or Amazon AWS or any other Cloud Computing Solution, it will be very nice to share your Computer, Network Projects and Topology whit your friends, so they can Connect to a Cisco Router or Switch using SSH over the internet securely.
    At least so we can practice Routing Protocols and Switching Configurations together this of course is for lab and practice environment only and to be clear I bought the Cisco VIRL imagines.
    Can you imagine that dose devices are actually virtualize? 😮 that is amazing! how far the technology have evolved 🤩😎!
    Anyways back to the subject, It will be illegal to do this?
    Waiting for your reply and for the community

      Thank you Ran! Appreciate the support. Technically you should have no issue doing what you suggest. At the moment because GNS3 doesn't have a full Web User Interface, each person will need to have a VPN connection to the VM so their clients can connect to the GNS3 VM. Legally, you will need to talk to a lawyer as I am not able to give legal advice.

    Hi, Master! I installed the new GNS3 GUI and GNS3 VM 2.2 from scratch but I had a problem opening the “GNS3 VM.ova” which I fortunately managed to solve. That's why I wanted to share with you, my issue and also the solution, which could be useful to someone else.
    The issue
    ========
    After upgrading the VMware Workstation Pro 12 version to Pro 15.5 and unzipping the “GNS3 VM.zip”, opening the file "GNS3 VM.ova" showed me the following error message:
    "Failed to read from file: GNS3 VM.ova"
    I downloaded the GNS3 VM again 5 times, both from gns3.com and from github. I also unzipped the "GNS3 VM.zip" with several different softwares (7zip, winRAR and the native Windows) but i still had the same problem:
    -> "Failed to read from file: GNS3 VM.ova"
    The workaround
    =============
    1) Rename "GNS3 VM.ova" to "GNS3VM.ova"
    2) Extract the OVA on a linux system by running the command:
    # tar -xvf GNS3VM.ova
    -> you will get the OVF and VMDKs as separate files:
    GNS3 VM.mf
    GNS3 VM.ovf
    GNS3_VM-disk1.vmdk
    GNS3_VM-disk2.vmdk
    (If you want to run a Linux shell system without VMs or emulations, integrated directly with Win 10 and consuming few resources, you could use the magical Microsoft WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux), version 1. It's free and downloadable directly from Microsoft docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/install-win10
    I have installed many real Linux shell distros like Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, Kali, Alpine and OpenSuse, even with Python 3 virtual environments running like a charm!)
    3) Move the files to your Win 10 system.
    (No needed if you used WSL.)
    4) With VMware Pro 15.5 just open the OVF file
    GNS3 VM.ovf
    -> and that's it!!! The GNS3 VM was sucessfuly imported and now is working.
    My implementation of your GNS3 2.2 Install lab
    =======================================
    After my issue, I Installed and configured IOSv, IOSvL2, IOS-XE (CSR1000v), IOS-XRv, NX-OS and some Linux docker containers
    -> All of them are working together really really well. (I set the GNS3 VM to 12GB RAM, 2 vcpu)
    It was worth the wait for this new version of GNS3!!!!!
    Thanks again David!!!!!

    Hi David - I have downloaded GNS3 V2.2.10 with VMware Fusion on my Mac. I keep getting c3725-adventerprisek9-mz.124-15.T14.image" is not a valid IOS image whenever I try to fire up a router (7200)...Any ideas or can you point me to a tutorial. It appears a lot of your tutorial are WIN10. Great work by the way, really appreciate it..!!

    • @davidbombal
      @davidbombal  Před 4 lety

      Thank you. No - only certain images are supported in GNS3 like 3600 or 3700 router images. Best option today is to use VIRL images or Cisco CSR images.

    First of all, great video David!
    I do have a question though. I've purchased VIRL PE and tried to use the images in GNS3. But both IOSv and IOSvL2 nodes boot with high CPU issues. Any idea on how to fix this?

    • @davidbombal
      @davidbombal  Před 4 lety +1

      You need to wait until things settle down. This is however an issue not just with GNS3, but also on other platforms like VIRL and EVE-NG

      @@davidbombal Thanks for reaching out so quick! Is this also the case with VIRL 2? And increasing the cpu's and/or ram on the nodes themselves doesn't help?
