- Hauling The Fish Locker lobster pots is one of my favourite things to do on the boat. Always so exciting to see what they may have caught. Crabs, Lobsters, Starfish and who knows what other underwater sea creatures? Today I explain how to ID different sexes and show explain about pregnant lobsters. The relevant laws protecting them and show V notching with V notching pliers. Protecting her and releasing her back into the ocean.

Love the v-notch system- a universal way to protect lobster populations
So long as everyone obeys the rules.
It is a wonderful and effective conservation method.😊
When you say "we" are spoiled, we as the viewers are certainly included! It is so nice that you bring us along to see views that many of us could not easily get to ourselves. Thank you! ❤🦀
Rachel, believe me when I say that you are very welcome. 😊
Conservation and education what more could you ask for! Thank you John!
I hope people find the video informative. 😊
Let me tell you how absolutely wonderful your channel is. Your reverence and appreciation for the natural world are just amazing. Thanks for all you do John
Thank you Daniel, we are simply sharing a little of what we know and love doing. I hope that it helps people out and encourages them to take an interest in the natural world around them. 😊
" Lets call him Jeremy" 😂😂😂 just wish I hadn't taken a mouthful of beer as I heard that, now it's all over my shirt!!! 😂😂👍
I wonder how many folks got that reference? 🤣
I don’t think many of the international viewers will have got that reference 😂😂😁
😂😂👍Comedy gold!
We'll watch out, in case he's about!
@@minibigs5259 😂😂😂😂😉
I applaud your deeply-held convictions on Conservation John. Thank you once more for another first-class video.
It is my pleasure Mike. Take care mate and stay safe.😊
‘Jeremy!, lol.....naughty, love it and the Channel.
😬
LOVE how conscientious you are about putting back those creature who are too small or protected by even an old v-notch!! You really care about the creatures...! Thanks for caring! ATB to you and Hannah and your family!
Thank you Ann, hopefully by showing and explaining the reasons for such things more people will adopt the practises.😊
Another lesson learnt about the V-notch system for protecting the breeding population of female lobster. Keep the videos coming
It is my pleasure Debra. 😊
You are the best!!!!!
Thank you. 😊
Ah - some sanity therapy. Thanks John 👍
My pleasure Allan. 😊
John. This was an incredibly instructive video. I praise you for your knowledge and ongoing relentless commitment to conservation and sustainability. Good man!
We are simply sharing what we know and love doing. Take care sir and have a great day. 😊
I just found your channel and I love it. I also like the fact that you don't add any music to your video's.
Thank you and welcome. I do have to add a soundtrack to some elements that don't have audio - like drone footage. 😊👍🏻
Great catches John! Your enthusiasm is contagious as always! Keep up the great work!
Thank you very much Jonathan, take care mate. 😊
Mid week special 'out on the boat!'
Bring on the good weather.
Amen to that. 😊
YES! Been waiting for this video to play while doing my Art finals :-) The vibes are nice and calm.
I hope your Art finals went well. 😊
Awesome work as usual
Thank you. 😊
I've watched your videos on hauling Lobster Pots now for many years, every one is different and we the viewers never stop learning. A perfect start to my Thursday morning, chores (window cleaning) will not seem so bad now. Thanks for posting.
That is one of the reason why I love doing our pots. There are never 2 days the same. You never know what you're going to catch do you. 😊
I love your sense of respect for the environment. Very appreciated!!! Ciao John.
Many thanks my friend. 😊
Only youtuber who I subscribe to, that I actually watch from start to finish ! No fast forward
Thank you very much. 😊
Thumbs Up John.... Del..
John - I liked the spots on your young male lobster at 03:50. They seemed much larger than I've noted before, almost looked hand painted on him.
👍🏻👍🏻
V notching is mandatory for any egg bearing Lobster here in Maine. It certainly works. Millions of Lobsters are pulled out of the ocean every year, but the population remains in in good shape. I wish the other fisheries were managed as well.
The proof as you say is in the returns. 😊
Jeremy Beadle 🤣🤣🤣
I believe he was once asked how big his old fella was, he answered “ on the one hand it’s quite big” 🤣🤣🤣
That is hilarious. 🤣
The unceremonious chucking back of the small ones is hilarious. Plus, you should go see a doctor if you've got crabs! Lol...
Haha. 🦀
Cool video as always🎣
Thank you. 😊
that small spider crab was definitely a distinguished gentleman
For sure. You could tell by the way he was sitting. 🧐
overcast day, but a stunning backdrop of the cornish coast line.No wonder the lobster stocks are thriving, releasing them big females.....it's how it needs to be done folks, awesome upload Mr fish Locker :)
I do love working our pots. 😊
Super vlog Jon, and great to see your helping the Lobster population, top job mate and respect, say Hi to the other members of the Fish Locker crew for me, and stay safe my friend.

It does not get any better Lad. .filled my little pond in the back yard . then watched the temp drop Watched it freeze up. .The birds were happy. Sigh . Think I will just have another cuppa tea and rewatch your video half a dozen more times . regards another John .

A true hunter/forager cares for the environment he enjoys. 😊
Outstanding John. Double V notch. Should be easy to spot the next time you catch her. “101” hope you see her again @ 111. Cheers Fish Locker Family.
Who knows, we may see her later in the year. 😊
been watching you over a year now, it is still weird typing stuff like congratulations you caught a ton of cabs. really cool to see how its down bay small boats and not the big commercial boats draining the ocean of life. have learned so much from your videos for how to survive if the apocalypse happened (not that i'm worried).
I am glad that you are still enjoying the content and appreciate the sustainability of our small boat approach to fishing. 😊
Great work John.....cheers for taking us with you 👍❤️
Glad you enjoyed it my friend. 😊
Brilliant video as usual John, fantastic scallops. Nice to see the family together out on a seafood picnic. I can almost smell the cooking here in Spain. Take care fishlocker clan.🙂🦞

9:00 cracked me up. That one looked like he was trying to nip and scuttle away.
🤣🦀🦞
Magic, happy to see you back out. cheers John
Any time mate. 😊
Great to see how the v-notch is cut into the lobster. Thanks for sharing John.
As you saw it doesn't hurt them and takes seconds 😊
@@TheFishLocker yes and as an angler I know how deeply we are invested in conservation of our coastlines. The respect you show in your videos to nature are great lessons to all.

Call him Jeremy 🤣🤣🤣👍👍 made me chuckle thanks John
🤣
P.s While diving all those years ago, I also so picked up a lot of those really big spider crabs you talk about in your vid. Watch several pot hauling shows and have not seen a big one yet.
Luv u man keep them coming.
John U.S.A
The design of my pots means it doesn't allow the really big spiders into them. 😊
Just walked up the ground for the 32 year anniversary of Hillsborough....YNWA ❤❤

Great to see u respect the rules, hate to see when ppl take undersized or berried lobsters who take them home to eat or even worse sell them, great to see u making a good influence 👍👏
I am glad that you share our view on that Corey. Hopefully by showing and explaining things like the V notching more people will do the same. 😊🦞
Hello from Plymouth! Awesome to see cornwall in the background, and amazing work with the v-notching. If only all did it!
Hopefully more people will from our example. 😊
@@TheFishLocker we have the guys from Plymouth University come around every now and then, having a chat asking what we catch and sizes! All it takes is a little information to change the world!
"Call him Jeremy, mebee". LMAO. :):):)

@@TheFishLocker It hasn't been too bad back in South Wales, bullhuss, bass, codling and all the rays have been showing up. Just waiting to get back so I can target the smoothounds this summer
Nice job on mamma bug! Nice calm day on the water! 2 weeks and grouper season opens up here in North Carolina USA!
I have a pet 4 inch female blue claw caught off my dock that lives in my sump tank of my salt water aquarium, she waves around her claws for food when you walk by! grown from 1 inch to 4 inches in 6 months. Wife cracks on me for having it as a pet!
Haha. Sounds like a fine pet to have. 😉
Great video. Great to see conservation
My pleasure Paul. 😊
Another great video - thanks John
My pleasure 😊
What a wonderful video. Showing conservation in action. There are some unscrupulous people out there, they can learn a lot from this. Nice job.
Hopefully by showing and demonstrating things such as this more people will begin to understand and adopt the practice. 😊🦞
@@TheFishLocker Absolutely mate. You are leading by example.

Awesome video as always John its nice getting notifications everytime you post we did some foraging the other day found 16 crabs 🦀 only tiny ones mind but the kids loved it 👍🏼
Thats fantastic. Great to get the kids out and enjoying nature. 😊
@@TheFishLocker definitely you should think about doing foraging trips finished off with a cooked meal on the beach you have a lot of knowledge John people including myself would pay for that take care look forward to your next video
Hi John, Great to see you catch and release as per the law😊 you are an good example to many. I have seen you return more fish, scallops, Lobster etc than you take home. Well done mate👍 making sure that there will be creatures in the sea for another Day. Cheers Ian
That is exactly how I feel Ian. One day this world will belong to James and his generation, I for one want there to be something left worth handing over. 😊
Another spot on video my friend..from your your friend on the other side of the pond.CHEERS MATE !
Cheers buddy, you getting out fishing yet?
@@TheFishLocker We were..Had a couple trips this week.Very rough conditions as far as high seas but fish were on fire as the warmer water finally moved in.The sharks got 90% of fish that were on the hook but all charters still caught limits of Almaco jack.Vermillion snapper.A few Lane snapper.Mangrove snapper.Gray Triggerfish. Also hundreds of American Red snapper up to 30 pounds each..Which they had to be released do to a total closure on them since 2010.(Which was not necessary at all!) And all the Sandbar..Sand Tiger sharks you could handle. Thanks for asking my friend.Cheers.
I love what you get up to .your doing well for yourself good show as always it wont be long you be on tv
Just doing what we love mate. 😊
Lovely video John 😃🦞
Thank you Jacob. 😊
Another superb vid
Thank you
My pleasure Kevin. 😊
John whats with the oil on the water as you let the lobbie go is it always like that on the south coast where you fish.
It was simply scum in a tide line. This was the bottom of the ebb.
Thankyou for the info.
Great uploads lately mate, sorry I havent been more active lately with your videos!
Thats ok, I hope things are good with you. 😊
Could you do a safety at sea video, reading weather, knowing when it's safe?
I have done a small boat safety video already. As for safety at sea, I am not a qualified safety instructor and simply recommend a Powerboat lvl 2 as a minimum. 😊
Amazing to watch! I've always wondered what camera and audio set up you have. Sound and visuals are great!
I have worked with many setups and suffered much time and cost to find this setup. 😊
Ahh, so a fisherman never reveals his secrets!
beautiful work man..
Thank you. 😊
