Some times CZcams gets it right. I watched earlier the interview Clint had with Carson right soon after the awards and they talked about it.... And now it was recommended to me.
I remember watching this live when I was in high school. The look of relief on Eastwood's face was genuine. Heston got a flat tire on the way to the show. Back in the days before they handed out limos like candy!
……Mr Charlton Heston had the most beautiful bass voice, with very clear diction. It was thrilling to hear him live in a packed auditorium, as his voice boomed throughout…………RIP………
Yeah, Heston will be forever remembered every time a school massacre occurs by an AR15 wielding NRA worshiping psycho. "From his cold dead hands". That's what he used to say.
I JUST watched his interview with Johnny Carson, and they were talking about THIS impromptu substitution (His wife said to go for it or whatever way she phrased it, yeah, easy for her to say, Lol!!!!!), and he mentions the, "Come on, flip the card man", Lol!!!!!!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Clint Eastwood was so relieved to see Charlton Heston he just ran off stage LOL that is so cute I've always loved Clint Eastwood think he's one of my favorite actors
If any actor were to make that biblicalesque speech today, there'd be an outcry not heard since the destruction of Sodom and Gamorrah, because a great many people would be offended by it. I truly miss those days of my childhood. I lost interest in the Oscars in the early 2000s, when suddenly the word "offense" became in vogue. And, Charlton Heston and Clint Eastwood on the same stage, if only for a moment was our gold. Two of my Hollywood heroes.
He did have to stop to change a flat tire. This was commented on later in the program, with a joke being made over a couple driving by on the highway, and the wife yelling at her disbelieving husband to "stop the car, that was Charleston Heston changing a tire". The audience had a good laugh, and so did the folks at home.
I CANT BELIEVE I MISSED THIS ONE, BACK IN THOSE DAYS FROM 12 YEARS OLD ON, I ALWAYS WATCHED WITH MY FOLKS & MY GRANDPARENTS BROTHERS, MAN THOSE WERE THE DAYS ..so funny I cant even remember the last time I watched the sick 1 minded zombie show today it is today
How good was this. Clint standing in... and then Heston arriving from transport problems and picking it up and landing it. Massive balls of steel on both of them.
Lol. I can only imagine what was going through Heston's mind when he came in and saw Clint giving HIS speech. 😂 It's so awkward though how he just gets up there and gets right into the speech like nothing happened.
The quality of this award ceremony versus the quality of contemporary ones encapsulates the decline of society. That’s what happens when you prioritize diversity over competence.
Love Burt Reynolds dying of laughter at 02:11 he and Clint were very close friends, those two go way back in time, there's an anecdote saying that they were both fired by Warner Brothers approx back in 1957 The powers that be told Burt " Now look here Burt, you can't act squad! then turning to Clint, he said: " Your Adam's apple is too big."
The other part of the story is Burt gave is sympathy to Clint for his tough luck. Clint said why? You got fired too! Burt (referring to Clint’s Adam’s apple) said yeah, but I can take acting lessons.
I regret that Heston refused the part of Travis in John Wayne's 1960 classic "The Alamo" because he didn't want to put his reputation at risk with a "rookie" director (Wayne). Heston needn't have worried. The Alamo was nominated for an Oscar as best picture and He surely would have elevated the role and brought out the best of Wayne and Widmark! With the duo of Wayne and Heston as starts that film would have become a bigger classic than it already is!
ABC would've got much higher ratings if they would've racked this up and played it instead of broadcasting the 2021 Trainwreck at Union Station ceremony.
Don't think Clint was ever happier to see anyone coming in his direction. He saw Heston and ran for it…..excellent!
That 4 minute clip alone was better than the last 15 Oscar shows.
Some times CZcams gets it right. I watched earlier the interview Clint had with Carson right soon after the awards and they talked about it.... And now it was recommended to me.
Same with me :)
Same thing just happened with me I just watched the Carson clip with Eastwood speaking on this
Same deal.
Same
Same
Clint was already directing, "cmon man change the card"
Burt found that funny lol
Clint was nervous, that was a last minute thing, he hadn't rehearsed.
Charlton Heston what a delivery. Great husband and family man.greatly missed.
Well said!
A megastar , Clint has such a charisma that can turn any situation into coolness.
Clint is a real class act. Substituting for Charlton Heston is not a walk in the park. Heston had a flat tire going to the Oscars.

Legend covering for a legend
Love the way these guys turned an awkward situation into a hilarious one. And Reynolds laughing his head off in the audience. More relaxed times!
Legends. They can’t hold a candle to these two today

He and Gregory Peck along with William Holden. Just huge, booming commanding voices.
That was terrific as Heston rushed up on stage and Clint was outta there!! Not his bag! Lol loved it.
Clint Eastwood is the coolest! They don’t make ‘em like that anymore.
He is the last golden of hollywood legend. the very last one. Period.
Eastwood's So Damn Cool he accidentally invented ice coffee by picking up a hot cup of it.
Mr. Heston had such a distinctive commanding voice when he speaks. His movies and legendary legacy as an actor and personality will live on...🙏

God that was great!
Icons that will never ever be matched again.
Heston comes out and delivers an oscar worthy monologue.
"This is not my bag."
"Flip the card man, this ain't my bag" 😅
Supposedly the reason Charlton Heston was late was because he got a flat tire on the way to the oscars.
And no doubt - changed it himself, in his tux.
He did have to stop to change a flat tire.
