  • How to fix a Texas Instruments TI-89 Graphing Calculator that won't turn on, even after you have replaced the batteries.
There is one defect in the TI-89 design that causes the batteries to lose the electrical contact with the circuit board. It is a super easy fix and requires no real special tools other than the required screw drivers. You have to move the electrical contacts for the negative and positive terminals of the batteries so that the make contact with a new portion of the circuit board.
There is lots of contact area so they must have assumed this would be a weak point.

I loved my TI-89. I let my brother in law borrow it and he returned it not working. I hope this will fix it!

This fix also works on the TI-89 Titanium as it has a similar setup. I put a bit of solder down to hopefully keep the pads from being worn away any more than they already had.

Wanted a TI-89, but don't really want to pay a ton since I don't really *need* it. I have two Titaniums from thrift stores, but like the look of the old style better. So, I just bought one on ebay for $12 that looks decent, but doesn't turn on. Hoping this will allow me to resurrect it! I'll try to come back and report if it works!

Sounds good, hope you can get it working! $12 is a good deal for sure if you can get it running again.

@@ResearchDesignBuildThat was indeed the problem. Biggest issue I had was my first torx screw driver was too short to reach two of the screws, but I found another one that worked. The pads had a little corrosion that I cleaned off with baking soda/water, then I slightly bent the legs as you showed. It's good as new now. Easy fix. THANKS!
