Hey Juan, really enjoy your reporting. I'm a career engineer here at P&W in East Hartford. Dialed in to a zoom call with out President (Chris Calio) today and he stated all Hollow Fan Blade segments have been recovered and are in our lab in East Hartford. Just passing this along, thanks.
Nice to know that you have found the bits that are probably the root cause. Let the inspections begin!
Proves my earlier conviction that the best information is on this channel. Thank you for sticking your head out to pass along the information!
Great News!
it's a failure at the collar of the blade isn't it is it the blade or the fastenings is the issue. Clearly your maintenance x-ray of these parts are not frequent enough and should be stepped up. what is the given time of x-ray on these parts period?
Good to hear all parts have been recovered. Were the fan blades contained within the engine itself, or were they recovered from the ground, or elsewhere outside the engine casing? If they were not contained within the engine casing, does that not classify this as an uncontained engine failure? What am I not getting here?
This channel is the gold standard in non BS, relevant, and clearly defined details for interested people. Doing what the msm doesn't do anymore.
You deserve way more credit Juan.
He does, but the MSM need to be recognised as scum!
Yes! loved it when he called out the "alarmist media". He is not afraid of backlash or getting harassed for not trying to tow the "politically correct" line!! That's exactly why we love Mr. Browne, for his authenticity, and the consummate professional that he is!
@@747-pilot *toe* Sorry. One of my pet peeves.
@@lizj5740 No problem! I am always willing to take constructive criticism! I know the correct spelling/usage of the word, but sometimes when I'm excited and in a hurry I tend to use the wrong form!
@@747-pilot I've done it myself; I try to read everything before I press that REPLY button, but it doesn't always happen...or I just don't see what's actually there.
Excellent reporting. These days, when I see a major news network has posted a video about an aviation event, I deliberately do not watch it. I wait until you cover it.
And when we need to know about the nuts and bolts we go to AgentJayZ.
Both of you Blancolirio and Agent JayZ have great channels. You both report the truth and useful information there is never any BS. You both have my respect! Thank you both for the time you give us. Stay safe and take care.
It's quite appalling, I don't really watch the MSM anymore for any kind of news, but anything aviation they'll either go with some conspiracy or even worse, a cover-up. Either way, it's often misinformation.
@@idanceforpennies281 most reporters are misleading and don't have a lot of knowledge in aviation. They make a huge deal over anything in aviation.
I actually heard a reporter say that the pilot had declared a "Mayday" and said that his plane was "Heavy". Yeah... that happened....
Not a single spear of asparagus was lost on blancoliros historic flight.
A true Veggie Tale ... a ton or 30,000 of good old USA exports.
@@donalddodson7365 indeed 😂, the asparagus in Oregon was looking a little lack lustre this morning. Juan is taking all the goods abroad

I bought some last week from Aldi it was cheap 59p? But had come from Mexico, bizarre.
@@stusmith1074 that’s crazy produce from Mexico would make it all the way over there. Holland is right there with all that asparagus they need to share the love!
Juan,.. Funny you were talking about asparagus going to England. As a 30+ year emp at SFO, Most people have no idea what is under their feet during these INTL flights. When cherries are is season, on most flights going to Asia, the lower deck is filled with cherries (Japan mostly). Strawberries to France etc. Produce, when in season is a huge export by air from California. You would not think lettuce flown by air could turn a profit,..... but it does!! Love your channel !!
Those are just a few examples of how the global economy can and often does create win/win situations, also called jobs and profits, for people living thousands of miles apart even though most of them will never actually meet.
And when I returned from London, the hold was filling with salmon.
I worked at Pratt & Whitney in the Applied Mechanics lab when the initial testing was happening on the Kevlar wrapped containment ring for the PW4000 Engines (around 1990). I also was present in the test cell when the full scale engine testing was performed on the Kevlar wrapped containment ring. I also did the 3D model for the finite element analysis of the engine mounts, supporting the project engineer. I also did the 3D models for the computer analysis of the carbon fiber thrust reverser vanes (that are on fire in the videos).
Thank God everyone was safe.
As usual, fantastic job covering this Juan!
This is an interesting angle - carbon fiber burning.
Thanks to you guys on the engineering side these problems are manageable for us on the flight deck! Thanks.
@@bartsmit8334 I was just an engineering technician supporting the real brain power. I wish I could show the slow motion video of how that first test went. Let's just say that the production version is far more effective!

Great update - I'm a semi retired airline Maintenance/Quality guy with a lot of exposure to big fan engines. Nice to get some "no BS" info. Appreciate your efforts to keep us well informed. Enjoy London - I used to work at Gatwick.
Welcome to the UK Juan, great to see you in London.
Can we appreciate that we're living in a time where just in the comments section discussion there are people from so many branches of this ecosystem finding out about each other, from a farmer thanking Juan for flying the asparagus from California, to customers in the UK glad to receive it, to a guy who was involved in developing the kevlar containment system and pilots thankful that work was done. And I'm sure I missed some discussion. Cool!
It's all connected!
@@blancolirio I expect everyone knows intellectually that "it's all connected", but actually hearing people chiming in from all these roles with some back story makes it seem a lot more real. I must admit, even though I see vegetables in the supermarket with stickers saying they came from here and there, and obviously they get shipped quickish, I had not actually visualized a herd of asparaguses on a plane.
You have already heard this a number of times, and rightly so, but I just want to express my great respect and gratitude for who you are and what you are doing with your CZcams channel. I am just a low hour private pilot and former flight paramedic, but I have been wildly in love with aviation and space exploration since I was a child. I have been trying to diplomatically mitigate anti-flight hysteria since taking my private pilot check ride in 1986, and I am deeply relieved to see someone with your qualifications and professional demeanor carrying that flag so well. THANK YOU, God bless, and safe flying to you, sir.
Best regards, Joe
Thanks for the update, Juan.
Nice to see you out and about.
I read up on that series of engine, and ended up on the Wiki about them, I quote some of the numbers I found.
The fan blade failures of this nature, it seems are uncommon and it's only in the last 5 years that they have occurred, on this engine series.
There has only been 5 failures on this engine series as well.
That PW4000 series of engine has been flying for 30 years and they have a combined time of 135 million hours on the more than 2500 engines that were put into service.
Going to interesting to learn what happened here, as it seems that it is a superb engine which a spotless reputation until 2016.
I have read the reports on the first 3 failures, going to be interesting to see how they compare to the latest 2 from Sunday.
We wait for that and review those in due course.
Take care,
Kind regards,
South Africa

"when the cowling departed the aircraft..." As though it was on a trip to Boston for the weekend! 👍
Thank you Juan!
Not sure about the civilian aviation community but "departed the aircraft" is a typical USAF term.
Usually in aviation incidents anything falling away from an aircraft is considered departed. Another tech term for separated.
If they examine the tech log will they find "No 2 Engine cowling ready for departure", or did it just takeoff without clearance?

I’ve never seen what the Royal Albert Hall looks like on the outside, thank you
I'm sure there are tours here on YT but you could look up BBC Promenade Concerts for added enjoyment.
@@delukxy I just saw something today about BBC and people watching it on line. Brits have to pay a fee to watch TV, ops sorry the telly and BBC is getting upset about that so are going to start charging to watch things on line. So life in the 21st century, much of what's worth watching on line is being demonetized and going away, what's left is being charged for. Unless it was addressing Brits only, don't remember what I was reading.
This reminds me of a story. A man was going to a concert at the Royal Albert Hall, but lost his way. Spotting a man with a violin case, he asked him “Do you know how to get to the Royal Albert Hall?” “ Practice my boy” the musician replied. “Years and years of practice!”

Thank You, I tracked your flight from LAX to London last night great fun..nice tail wind you pickup!
I was an avionics tech on the F-111-A in the mid 70s at Nellis AFB. We had several instances of this exact type of engine failure on several of our aircraft. Aircraft at other bases exhibited the issue as well. The F-111 used the P&W TF-30 engines. The fan blades were not always contained at failure. In one instance, an engine let go on one of our aircraft when it was on final approach. A friend of mine watched it as it passed him directly overhead. The back of the plane was flaming up pretty good. He said the fire went out momentarily (that was when the pilots hit the fire buttons), but then it lit right up again, worse than before. They were almost able to land it, when the tower told them over the radio to punch out NOW, that the plane was ready to go up at any time. They punched out, and the plane exploded beneath them. I heard it go but did not see it. They were right off the deck, 50 feet, if that, when they punched out. The whole F-111 fleet was grounded until every engine could be inspected. Pratt & Whitney came out and did the inspections. The cause of the failures was metal fatigue. I don't recall what the findings were as far as how many engines were bad, but the planes were re-engined and put back in service, as P&W was able to clear the engines as good to go. I expect the same thing to happen with the 777s that have these engines installed. I was at the base hospital later that day to get my shots updated. An F-111 pilot was on line ahead of me. I spoke with him for a bit, asked how the pilots from the incident were, and he said they were hospitalized for at least the day, due to back injury from the ejection. Apart from that, they were all right. I asked if he had reservations about flying the jet with the issues that we were having. He said they try not to worry about it, and that they just go up and do their jobs. He said that if anything were to happen, they would just deal with it at the time as necessary. The USAF altered the flight manual for the F-111 on engine fire procedure, to insure that the fuel supply to the affected engine was shut off before hitting the fire extinguisher button.
Wow!
Surprised to see a video tonight. I knew you were 'working'. Be safe.

There is something slightly odd when, in the middle of a deadly pandemic, the out-of-season asparagus is still being delivered safely to the dinner plates of London. Given that nobody can hold a dinner party at the moment and all the restaurants are shut, then I can only assume that some are still maintaining standards.
The middle classes are still having dinner parties, as they don't think the rules apply to them.
@@Avgeek1564 For the most part, it's not the middle classes that have suffered the most infections and deaths.
