I lost interest once he peeled the skin off
😳 me when I saw him do that ! Smh ha ha
I literally said “ohhh noooo” out loud. Automatic reaction
I immediately left the video once I saw this comment, only came back to say thank you for your kind work.
Just flip the breast over and cut it

As a former head chef and kitchen manager I will note a few things. First, that bird looks amazing and VERY juicy! Whoever cooked it did a very good job on the meat! Second, do NOT remove the skin! You lose a lot of flavor and also a crispy texture to the bite! Third, if the skin dulls your knife you either have a very poor quality steel or a terrible edge. Buy Wusthof knives or if on a budget Victorinox are not terrible.
Yeah I'm dumbfounded by the "cutting the skin will dull your knife" wut
@@rtrimsrtrims9616it will dull it only if u have cheap knives
I’ve never been a head chef but had the same reaction to the skin being pulled off
He also did not cut out the oyster out of the turkey when seperating the thigh off the joint! That's the best part of any bird!
@@MrFire8818 - Wait - what? Not sure what part of the meat you're talking about? thnx
Nice video but I would never remove the skin
After a few years, this is still my go-to for a quick refresher on how to do it right!
Thank you, Ray. I watch this every year at Thanksgiving time. Rest in peace my friend.
He died?
I lost my Dad in April this year, he was an English guy but loved Thanksgiving more than anyone and was always the one who carved the Turkey. 5 minutes before dinner this year we realized no one knew how to do it, this video saved the day. I ran to the basement to watch it in secret before anyone got too sad staring at the uncarved bird. Thank you for the guidance. ❤
Thanks for sharing that, I'm sure your dad was watching. I moved to another country and am cooking the turkey as I am writing this comment. It's 6:30 in Argentina and I am carving the Turkey for the first time, I usually cook it and a breast for my large family but my brother in law always carved the birds. The video will be a big help and your comment was grounding. Peace Lucifer!
My dad taught me how to carve the turkey from when I turned 18, and he made me do it, always telling me that I'd be the "man of the house" one day, like it was a rite of passage. We would do turkey over Christmas instead of Thanksgiving as our family tradition. He passed last year, and I'm glad that he taught me how to do it, although my mom was also the hero, she nails every turkey, seasoning and roast always on point. My in laws have always been impressed. I look forward to hopefully one day pass this onto my kids too. May our loved ones rest in peace while we embrace them in loving memory. ❤️
Just reading this now. So touching and heart felt. Much love man and may your dad rest in peace. ❤
Thank you Ray for getting right down to business in this video. I’ve done dozens of birds, but needed a good thigh slicing technique. Love yours. If you new to carving do it just like Ray does. No one will know it’s your first time. 😊
First time responsible for carving the turkey this year. Glad I found this video. I’ve watched it a few times now and will probably keep watching until it’s time.
I DON'T KNOW WHO ROASTS YOUR TURKEYS BUT NEVER HAVE I SEEN SUCH JUICY BIRDS!!!
Look no further. This is it. I've been watching Ray for 8 years now and it's perfect every time. Thank you.
This video is 9 years old.
Thank You!! You made me look like a hero at a dinner party when they asked if anyone knew how to carve a turkey and I was the only one to step up!
I did a serious hack job carving the turkey in 2018...found Ray's video while the turkey was in the oven and was amazed how much better a job I did in carving this year. I'm not sure why so many people get crazy about cooking the turkey, there are many simple recipes out there and online. I found the carving to be the hard part. I have no opinion about peeling away the skin, I did and no one seemed to miss it.
I leave the skin on. Looks and taste great. Doesn’t dull the knife. Not sure where he came up with that one.
it helped me as well.
Why not keep the skin there? It's delicious
I literally gasped when he pulled the skin off of the breast. Huge fail.
No kidding. Here is the right way to do it: czcams.com/video/939uGzs484M/video.html
I showed this to friends of mine instead of a horror movie. They said this was way scarier.
I can't belive he would do that!
Still the best way to carve a turkey. Sorry to hear that Ray has passed, but I will always remember him for this.
How did he die
I watch this every year i host or carve the turkey. Thanks
This is one of the best videos ever on how to carve a turkey!
Here I am, 9 years after this video was posted, watching it because it is my first time carving a thanksgiving turkey and I have guests arriving soon 😅
Thank you! I never carved a Turkey before and had no clue - I looked like a pro after watching your video!
I literally just carved my turkey off of this video. Keep up the good work!
Very helpful and logical detail. Thanks for that!
When the skin came off I cried. When he said "your knife won't cute through it, I laughed. When he said the knife would become dull I rolled my eyes.
Excellent presentation short and to the point, easy peasy.
Concise and easy to follow instructions. Thank you and happy holidays 😉
Nice video. I wish I would've found it before now. This will help me out tremendously! Thank you!
This is now my go to video
Worked perfectly. Thank you sir.
EVERY year I forget how to carve and EVERY year I have to find a video. Well, see ya next year!!
Watch it every year. Thanks
Wow, beautifully done.
For the first time, thanks to this, I cut up the bird with confidence!
Master and precise
wow, beautifully done
Thank you much for the information
Thanks for the great video!
I will be trying that in about an hour.
Watch this every year.
Absolutely fantastic method of carving. Worked great for me.
Thanks for commenting!
Thanks for a complete and simple explanation not taking 7 to 15 minutes
This video is 3 minutes long ... NOT 7. And I can assure you it is definitely NOT 15 MINUTES! That would be more than DOUBLE that of 7 and TRIPLE that of it's actual length.
@@duckqwackerwow.
Ty ! Very informative.❤
Thank you!
Thank you!!
Thank you! Worked perfect!
Great, simple method and the guests loved the results - thanks, Ray! As Ray says, cutting the skin dulls your knife so simply peeling it away is an excellent solution; simply lay the stripped off skin on the platter next to the dark meat - it goes quick.
Are you his son?
The skin is the best part and should be attached to the meat.
The simple solution to doing something that fills your knife is to just… sharpen your knife? Take care of your tools? Whaaaat?
removing the skin is insane - you are removing flavor. dulling the knife? come on...
That's solid info...thx!
THE SKIN IS THE GOOD PART
Wasted all the good skin on the breast.
Thanks!!
I watched the video 1 hr before carving, used this method and my girlfriend thought I was a cross between Emeril Lagasse and Wolfgang Puck. AND I kept the skin!
Wow. Just wow. That was amazing.
But yes obviously you should not peel back the skin if it’s dulling for ur knife then it’s not that sharp but either way u can j use a serrated knife
Great Video, thank you.
Wow, you're Good. Looks sooo easy.
Nice demo
Speaking as a turkey, I would like some advice on how to avoid being carved up.
Great video. RIP Ray.
Now that Turkey looks so good and yummy 😋
Great video..Thanks.
Yeah I couldn't get my leg during thanksgiving..Thanksgiving... reason why I am here lol
I’m back again to watch this video today for no reason in particular 😉
Don’t settle for this video people. Once he said cutting through skin will dull your knife I laughed out loud. Why even season the skin if you’re going to remove it?!
And how many turkeys is he carving to worry about 30 seconds of cutting through the skin 😅
as I have said, a few years ago, I have NEVER seen such a juicy Turkey carved and I have watched hundreds of videos on this, do you have a video of this Recipe ??
Anyway to make deli thin slices out of full turkey?
Show a close up of the carved presentation.
Where do you get that long steak knife (2:46)??
This guy needs a better knife I just saw a video where dude carved a turkey skin and all, it was beautiful and he saved all of it.
Yes the skins the best bit
Nice
Does anyone miss the days when you carved the turkey in front of the guests and end up slicing off the tip of your finger while doing it? Or is that just me?
This is the worst way to carve a turkey I've seen so far....
0:01 - Start of the video 3:22 - End of the video
edit: mom im famous
This is the BEST turkey carving tutorial I've found on CZcams. Great job!
Pseudo Boethius you don’t ever remove the skin. This guy is a hack.
Here in 2021 sweating for tonight. My first go.
"The skin!!".....(dropping to my knees shouting to the heavens) "Noooooooooooo!"
Hi Thy
u need one of those mechenical deals ....the vibrating sword ...or knife or whatever ////
BREWSTEW I FOUND THE TURKEY VIDEO
Hi Reese
I feel like if I let the turkey cool till I can handle it with bear hands before carving, I would be serving cold turkey meat at the table. I am not saying not to rest the bird after cooking. just saying to only rest it for 20 minutes or so before carving.
RAY, I AM SO GLAD YOU MENTION THIS AS ANOTHER CHEF JEAN PIERRE ROASTED A BEAUTIFUL 27 LB BIRD A FEW YEARS AGO BUT WHEN HE CUT INTO IT THOSE JUICES POURED OUT LIKE NIAGRA FALLS AND I SAID THIS IS ALL FLAVOR. BUT HE MOPPED THEM UP WITH PAPER TOWELS AND TRASHED THEM SAYING "IT'S ALL FAT" SHOULDN'T A 27LB TURKEY REST FOR AT LEAST 1 HOUR!!!
No skin?? That's insanity.
This is mostly good advice, but cutting skin does not dull your knife 😂
as others notice I can't believe you cut off that skin which is the best part!!
Give em a break, it's the New York Times...
They're carving it... "Liberally"
@@sisi7019 Derangement syndrome.
Pierce the breast through the skin to keep intact. Then cut against the grain. Comes out crispy, juicy and delicious. Also 24 hour brine and deep fry.
Worried about dulling a knife blade by slicing through he skin? WTF
A wonderful quote from Chef Gordon Ramsay "its bloody raw"
Why can't knife cut thru skin?
Is that cooked all the way?
Excellent video! Just one comment, please remove all jewelry (rings) before cooking ;)
gobble gobble gobble (im a turkey ) :3
You can 134% cut through the skin sir…
A Yankee teaching how to carve a raw turkey
Once or twice a year and you are scare of dulling your knife. WTF! Start off with a sharper knife next time and you won’t have to worry about ripping the skin off.
Lol.smallest "platter"! Thats a Dinner plate!
great video but I am not removing the skin - are you kidding?
The skin dulls your knife?
So what! Sharpen it!
Will I need a larger knife to compensate for my lack of a mustache?
Same, lost interest when skin was ripped off !
Jesusita en chihuahua
I’m vegan, and how dare you New York Times showing people that it’s okay to carve up innocent turkeys, you must take this video down because it’s so triggering not just to vegans like me, but to all innocent turkeys who are endangered
😳
