- This video is all about the street photography camera settings you can use on your Leica M cameras (Leica M10R, Leica M6, & some Leica M11) to shoot street photographs on overcast, cloudy, and rainy days (with chapters below).
These photos are all new york city photography shot in early January 2023 using the Leica M10R. I'll give you my POV on how to use the exposure triangle and show you my usual settings for ISO, aperture, and shutter speed with examples, show you where on your camera to make these settings adjustments. I'll also talk through how to use priority modes (like aperture priority) to simplify your shooting, especially for beginners!
Nearly all of this advice and these settings also applies to digital cameras, like the Canon R5!

Do you shoot in manual or do you use prioirity modes for your street photography? Let me know below!
Good video. With the Leica M11P , 60 MP when I shoot with my Summilux 50mm f1,4 , i must shoot at minimum 1/250 secs. And I have to be very stable at this shutter speed. The ideal without risk is 500 to 750 . The more pixels you got , the more risk to have motion blur in your images.
I watched your video to see your zone focusing settings and exposure settings for your Leica M camera but instead found a great video on the exposure triangle.
Thanks for the great video.
Awesome to hear. Glad it was helpful!
Hi Ryan, thanks for a great primer on the exposure triangle.
Glad it was helpful 🤟🏼
Soundtrack approved!

Great video, Thank you!
Glad you liked it. You're welcome!
Excellent job of explaining zone focusing, shutter speed and how the exposure triangle plays a role in street photography.
thanks so much! I appreciate it a lot, and thanks for watching :)
Hi Ryan, nice to see meet you. I use aperture priority with auto ISO up to 12500 with AWB on my m10. I add heavy grain to my images so I do not mind the digital noise one bit.
whatever works for you! that's what's important for sure. We're all just out making what we want to make, so that's great that you've found a system that works for you 🤟🏼
Congrats for this video and your channel!
What about if I'm in full manual mode (I choose my ISO, shutter speed and aperture)? I guess it doesn't matter which light metering mode you choose (spot, evaluative etc...). Am I right?
I've done some tests, and the metering mode makes no difference when I'm in full manual.Could you confirm (or not...) please ?
Regards.
Can you do a video for night street photography for the M10-R? Thinking of getting one. Thanks!
I have it on my little list of topics...Will definitely get to it soon as the days get shorter!
Very good video explaining the exposure triangle. One question though,What exposure mode on your M do you find works best for street photography and for general photography?
I shoot either in manual (70-80%) or aperture priority (20-30%), depending on the situation or desired effect.
auto iso is helpful in lowlight. just set a max iso you are comfortable with
In Leica M…A - is for aperture ,,,not for automatic
Great video Ryan!
One confusion; f/8 for what focal length? Thank you😊
I think you mean as part of "f/8 and be there"? On a cloudy day try it with ISO 800 and your shutter around 1/500, or ISO 400 and shutter 1/250. On a sunny day, try it with ISO 100 and shutter 1/250. Those are probably a good ballpark but you'll need to test it out with your own gear and tweak it a bit to your liking and style...
Not satisfied. Anyway, thank you Ryan😊
OH. I see you said focal length. My bad, I responded too early in the morning 🐣 The photos in this video were mostly made on 28mm. But the approach is the same, regardless of focal length. Use the one you like! Cheers.
