We use carports a lot in southern rural areas. Generally, people who have closed in their garages and car porches for extra room or those who never had attached parking will buy a metal carport. Also we buy the taller version of them for RV’s, boats, and farming vehicles.
It's funny because I noticed quite a few of them this morning while driving my son to school (we drive through a rural area). To me, this was just one of the niches "hidden in plain sight" as I have no personal experience with them. I'm very impressed by the monthly demand for them though, and it makes sense why many people with more land would purchase them.
