very helpful video. Having a smaller vice i found a little heat helped get them out and heating the rocker to 350 degrees Farenheit made getting them in a breeze.

Take the mil valve adjustment tool and place it horizontally on the valve not up or down. When you tighten it, if it stays horizontally it is fine. If it moves of falls it’s too loose. Just a quick thing I learned.

thanks for the video. i was sad i missed out on your techday last year. hope to see you soon. FYI ted porter sells these but whoever he is getting these from is using a piece of vinyl tubing to keep the needle bearings inside and it does a poor job. i got my new set of 8 with dozen or so bearings loose. whoever you got yours from did a better job with the foam

There is going to be a tech day at my house again in September 2021. Date hasn't been set yet.

Thanks so much for posting this! Can you share where you ordered the $12 bearings online?

Hi. Super interesting video. But I really like to know how you got the first needle sleevers out of the rockerarm ? It a greate problem for me. I have bought new needle sleevers but can’t get the old one out 😢

I used a socket that is slightly smaller than the bearing to push the old one out.

great vid,2 questions please ,,are there roman numerals on the rockers, I and II< and are they to the top or bottom when you fitted them,,also i was looking at the posts on the head that the studs poke through where the rocker blocks mount on,should there not be spacers/sleeves go over them sitting on rubber "0"rings,

That is a good question. I know that they are interchangeable. The intake rocker from the right cylinder is the exhaust rocker for the left cylinder. Considering that I would say the orientation of the numerals isn't important.
      I hope that helps

Really great video. Gonna be doing the same job on my R80. What vice do you use? I’ve been looking all over for one big enough for this. Thank you!!

My vise is a cheapo 6 inch from Amazon. I bought that said it is cast steel which in theory is stronger than cast iron.
Any 6 inch vise should be able to open far enough. If not, pack up the rockers and the new bearings, send them to me and I will push them in.

@@HeikosGarage great, thank you so much for the reply. I have the engine sealed, however, so I’ll have to take the rockers off one at a time to avoid ruining the cylinder seals. Just my luck that I noticed the broken cages as I was putting the rockers back on. Thank you for the offer though!

Hey thanks for the video! At the start you mentioned that its abit risky to remove a rocker arm assembly because it could loosen a headgasket? How risky is it and is there any way to prevent it?
Also would you recommend removing it from the head at TDC? Thanks!

let me say you might cause oil leaks by taking you rockers off and just putting them back on without changing the cylinder head gasket, base gasket and push rod tube seals.
