    That bike is capable of way more, add some jumps to that track and you are gonna have lots of fun, like that video you made of "sick downhill MTB single track". I love free flowing tracks with some jumps. I can't believe you still dont put a dropper to that marlin, there are lots of options. Nice vid man.

    I thought the dropper was a gimmick until I got one, now i wouldn't want to be without one. XC can be pretty intense but it is also pretty rewarding. I keep looking at the Bikepacking trips some CZcamsrs take and they look so appealing. Keep riding

    Your videos are clearly demonstrating you do not need a $3500+ bike to get out and enjoy the outdoors! My old 29er hardtail is kind of what keeps me from buying a gravel bike. Would a gravel bike be lighter and possibly faster? Sure. But if the dirt road or trail gets ugly, the advantage goes to the hardtail.

    I ride rail trails (crushed gravel/coarse gravel/blacktop), street and local singletrack XC style with some rocks gardens and small jumps over logs. I plan on taking my 1x9 Marlin 7 bikepacking down the Great Allegheny Passage and the C&O trail sometime in the next couple years.
    That Marlin 6 is way more capable than your old one and definitely more capable than my late model Marlin 7. I would love to try one someday. You should definitely go tubeless, run a lower psi and get a dropper for it. Those tires should be fine for that but it wouldn't hurt to try a 2.4" tire with better tread on the front.

    Since the trails nearby are all XC style, I ride a lot of XCO (weekdays) and some longer epic rides on weekends. The elevation profile here range from 0 to 180ft, then climb and descent a lot to make a epic ride.

    Matty, I don't think its the 1x10 vs the 1x12. You only have a 46t in the rear vs most 1x12 having 50-52t rear. BUT the good news is there are 10spd cassettes with 50t gear. I run a couple of them on different bikes and they do the job. One of my bikes has a 1x12 but its still a 50t as the lowest gear that I use so i don't think its any better than the 1x10 with a 50t :)

      @Fortnite ios player it's great! I really like it. I have yet to take it on a hard trail ride, but what I have done has been fun. It's fast, and smooth. I did make a few changes, not that I had to only because I wanted to. I have one more thing to add, and that will be a dropper post, and that will be it. Happy riding to you!👍🏾

      @@54rdavisful thank you ! What is the advantage of dropper post ? Because if we don’t add it we can just lift it right?

    • @54rdavisful
      @54rdavisful Před 2 lety

      @Fortnite ios player A dropper post is to allow the seat to drop out of the way on trails with jumps so you can lower yourself (your backside) on the bike without the seat getting in the way. May not at all be needed for you or your style of riding. Just an equipment upgrade that may make for a better riding experience.

    I'm pretty positive I'll be picking up a Marlin 6 before the end of the year. I've always been a skateboarder, but now that I just turned 40, I'm going to get into mountain biking & riding around the city. So you think it's a good beginner bike? It was between the Marlin 6 or a Marin Bobcat Trail 5. But I would have to order the Bobcat Trail, while my local bike shop carries the Marlin 6.

      I got Marlin 6 couple weeks ago. I think It's a great starter MTN Bike. Of course Marlin 8 comes with 12 speed, but for me, the 10 speed on my Marlin 6 is fine for majority of the ride(road and easy trail). If you live where there are lots of hills, then go for Marlin 8. Otherwise, Marlin 6 should be fine.
