- Kakrar jhal is a light yet fiery crab curry common in many Bengali (and indeed eastern Indian) households. This recipe is exactly how my paternal grandmother cooked crabs, with one interesting twist of our own-which is that we sometimes add a little mustard paste towards the end. The extra pungency really adds to the "jhal" (heat) đļđĻđļ
The video also includes a detailed step-by-step process of cleaning a live crabs that is safe and relatively easy for beginners, who may not be confident handling live crabs. Putting crabs in the freezer at temperatures under 4ÂēC puts them in a state of torpor, and makes them less likely to feel pain. It also reduces their mobility for easier handling. Then they are briefly put into boiling water, which kills them instantly.

I am a regular viewer of your channel. I love the simplicity in your cooking style... This video made me give a suggestion... you've used the spices from the plastic packaging... I understand about the sponsorship, however you can just add one more thing, while cutting the edge by making sure that the tiny bit doesn't go to the landfill... You can cut it a bit sustainably... You'd find a lot of ways how to cut plastic packs sustainably in youtube... as you have a hell lot of subscribers, I'd request you to do this bit for our mother nature or rather planet earth... may be one person follows...
You guys are a blessing for bangalis like us who resides outside of India. I have tried so so many recipes of yours. Yesterday I tried the mochar ghonto with chingri mach. And it turned out delicious 𤤠But my personal favourite not to mention my husband's and also my 2.5 years son's đis dimer devil. I also invited some of my American friends and they also loved it.
I utterly request you to do a recipe on chicken biriyani. I tried yours mutton biriyani and it trurned out excatly same as Arsalan.

That method of killing crabs reminded me of Andhadhunđ. And I swear by the Sunrise shahi garam masala, it is the best. I carried about 5 packs of it from Kolkata to US when I last visited. đ
My mother uses it too - the small sachets are perfect!

Trust me, I've tried many named brands in the market recently, nothing comes anywhere close to Sunrise Shahi Garam Masala. I dedicated the first few weeks of my Gurgaon shift to find a grocery store that sells it. After days and loads of online research found one so close to my house. That's one of the best discoveries of my life đ¤Ŗ

Hi @Bong Eats , one quick suggestion, while opening any plastic packets such as sunrise, it's better if your don't cut the packet obliquely as the small part of plastic is very hard to separate and makes it's way to oceans and other water bodies creating more pollution. Just a thought for sustainable kitchen practices đ Also, huge fan love your content and I was very lucky to have met Insiya di in Kolkata back in 2019

And one more thing... sunrise mustard powder is so good that I don't even use salt while soaking it in water...just 15-20mins of soaking does the job for me...sharp and creamy, never bitter đ
Sunrise recommends adding the salt on their packet instructions though. But yes, it is surprisingly good.

Yes. Reduce the garlic, add cinnamon, cardamom at the saute stage, follow this same procedure but use coconut milk instead of mustard - That's the Malaikari for you.

Crab is emotion...
Try not to boil the crabs and cut them live and then fry them by adding salt and turmeric. After that follow the same process. I personally feel this increases the taste.
Also, instead of adding the mustard powder try with Sunrise Shahi garam masala towards the end and let it rest for a while... I am sure you are going to love it!!!

This is the first time l've seen potato included in cooking crab. Potato in bengali non-veg dishes are added to give the dish more substance and mileage on the table.

Sunrise is a regular brand in west bengal since many years. We use sunrise, Everest and ITC on regular basis. But mdh is not popular that much
