- On May 7, 2023 as part of our Jazz Icons series we hosted eight-time GRAMMY-winning bassist Christian McBride and NEA Jazz Master, pianist Kenny Barron at a concert in our historic space.

Christian McBride is the Artistic Director of JAZZ HOUSE KiDS and has performed with jazz greats like Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, Joe Henderson, Diana Krall, and Chick Corea, as well as pop legends like Sting, The Roots, Paul McCartney, and Celine Dion. Barron has shared the stage with Dizzy Gillespie, Ron Carter, Stan Getz, Yusef Lateef, and Regina Carter.

Barron’s left foot and McBride’s right hand are part of a single swinging, pulsating organism.
Those guys are so in-sync like two peas in a musical pod. lol. Joyfulness as they seamlessly play off each other's riffs. What a jazz bubble they've created as it floats around that beautiful space. I've listened to it maybe 9 times...can't get enough. TY
My wife - being married to a jazzmusician for 40 years- just stated: Why is this wonderful music not played in restaurants all over the world as some kind of a sophisticated back ground music, than what we are forced to hear there all over at all those places….the subconscious of the consumer just is not taken care by all those food and beverage manages besides in certain dedicated places…let’s hope this might change some time. What a pleasure to listen to those great artists.,,,Thank you very, very much

Where there is Jazz there is a sense of unity that we almost never experience anymore. Music can do that and these guys sure know how to do music! Thanks to them and all great Jazz artists many of whom learn from Kenny Barron and Christian McBride! This is the definition of wonderful!

For those of us who listened for years to Kenny Barron playing duos in various salons in NY often accompanied by cash register and loud customers is really gratifying to see him playing to a full hall with appreciative audiences but strange at the same time.

There is always something strange about jazz in a church. The traditionally scared and the traditionally profane. And what’s more they played a traditionally racy number Body & Soul 😮

Yes, something struck me as it being a strange environment. No mention of God, just of things that are unifying the community. Seemed pretty liberal to me...
It goes to show that one doesn't need religion to unify the community. Jazzmusic of this quality does the trick effortlessly.
On this cloudy New York Sunday this concert elevated my spirit. Thank you Trinity, church, and all the organizers… And of course, this brilliant musicians that remind us how amazing jazz can be🤸♂️🥰😘

beautiful, yes!!!!!! i had the honor of playing with kenny, his brother william, the unique saxophonist, in the late 1980s and it still brings joy to my heart. masters and inspirations in spirit and music.

I remember when Kenny Barron was at Bradley's (on 5th, or whatever Av, goes straight up to Times Sq.), directly across the street from the club (name?) where Tommy Flanagan was playing. I walked half a block on an E-W St and came to a restaurant where Al Haig was playing. 3 piano legends accessible in a city block. Whatever Wynton is doing for jazz, he's like the last warrior left in Fort Lincoln Center.

Fantastic when a bass player is brought to the front, when normally being back ground figure.. In my life time I have never seen anything quite like this. Kenny Barron I have seen playing in Copenhagen, always a master at the piano, but Christian Mc Bride takes the cake .
