one reason I still appreciate what James does is that he treats 'videos for the internet' like an actual creative pursuit. he treats it like filmmaking instead of 'throwing footage into a cheap editing program, pointing a cheap webcam at my face and screaming'. that's really what all the second-raters don't realize separates good content from trash.

@@technologyproductions-ye3px I mean there are still people making decent let's plays out there, some are skilled gamers that constantly challenge themselves, some are brilliant comedians who focus more on the humoristic sides of their let's plays, all you need to do is stop watching when you're not entertained by a youtuber and search for another one, because even if they're not all great, some of them are. The content present on youtube is completely dependent on the viewers, the more people will watch those who dedicate themselves to their videos and ignore those who take obvious shortcuts, the better everything will be.

What I find ironic is how practical and un-nerdy he is in his production techniques. James seems like someone who doesn't get too caught up in the technical details and just has a tool box of what works, earned from hard work and experience. As an audio engineer who went to school for the trade, this is a very refreshing compared to guys who will break out a physics book to decide where to place a microphone. Not that the nitty gritty isn't interesting or useful, it's just refreshing when somebody cuts to the chase.

+TuMadre Editing is actually fun if you're into it. I look at it as the part of the process where you really build he narrative and construct the story. Effects can be a ballache and colour correction is fucking tedious though, unless you're looking for a really stylised or wacky look, then it can be loads of fun messing about with sliders. You're right though, some people really relish the editing and no one gives a shit, while others do very little and get fucktons of views. It's just the way it goes.
