I came here to say just that. There were jumps that were split between close up and far away and I missed the impact of the jump. In my opinion, the videography was really poorly done.
Yeah the editor mainly. I doubt a videographer can change shot every half a second. The editor decided to build the clip like this. And yes, it's painful
But in general, dance is about being able to capture the movements of the body, and they work to create an experience of witnessing that. If you want to see good facial expressions, hire an actor.
This is also how lighting engineers feel whilst watching live concert footage! Those moments in a Pink Floyd show on the big twang during "Comfortably Numb", and the whole rig goes wild, the pyro crew detonate hundreds of charges...and the video director cuts to a closeup of the guitar or Gilmour's grimacing face! NOOOOOO!!!!
I totally agree, except you might want to actually know something about ballet bore you say this is ballet and you know a lot about it. Sorry but it’s the truth
When you're a dancer, it can be difficult to watch other dancers. You get so distracted by technique, texture, and the tiniest details. THIS HAD ME LOST! I was so wrapped up in his pure emotion and artistry that nothing else mattered. That, my friends, is magic.
I was lucky enough to meet Sergei in person a few months ago after my 9 year old sons ballet school was invited to Covent Garden to Sergei's private training, and then consequently letting the boys have the honour of interviewing him. He was an extremely polite, kind and humble man. A true honour to be in his presence.
Oh my GOD. Please, world, use people who know dance to film dance. Or just use a wide shot and let the dancer speak. Sergei is a master. We miss so much in just one moment if the camera is zoomed. Other than that...I love this man. He truly dances like no other. His technique is both raw and flawless. How is that even a thing?!! ❤️
I've actually got a few of his dance moves perfected. That emotional moment where he's lying on the floor? Yeah, got that down. Kneeling? Totally got it. Only got like 4 minutes left of other dance moves. Entirely doable. Now where did I put those tights...
I had the privilege of being there that day amongst the public. It was a transcendental experience. It filled you with the sort of inspiration that doesn't last for just a day, but you can call upon it when you need it for the rest of your life. A turning point for me as an artist. Amazing talent and athleticism always in the service of effective communication. What a lesson to learn. A memory to treasure. It,'s also good to get glimpses of it through the official video. Thanks a lot.
_ _ agree. However the emotion on his face adds to the song n the dance. Yes, not needed . . . The song goes thru his body n exudes life, movement. Bottom line, this man is phenomenal!!
I do not agree. Seeing the artist's features, details, make me look as if I were there on stage. It cannot please everyone. I think the editor did an excellent job.
Go watch the original. Plenty of emotion and none of the amazing moves lost. In this edit some of his most impressive moves and foot work aren’t shown.
What do I like? One thing... Ugh can't ....I am torn between... His presents, strength and grace or his scars, tattoos, and rebel force. I will go with YES.
I never knew grace had a human body before I saw his viral video of this performance, the tattoos, the scars on a flawlessly graceful form making intricate and technical movements look natural and flawless. Perfection.
He has an unique charm/charisma... together with and through his dancing - melt and born at the same time - ... it's captivating!! It's terrific! He is made for being an artist. He is made for being a famous one. Because he totally fascinates us. He and the world deserve to see his art.
You can tell he’s been deeply impacted by MB! He jumps and turns like him! I thought the world would never see such a talent in my lifetime but we have! How honoured we are!
In this piece Polunin is the dance. One leap and turn flows into the next ,and I feel as if I'm moving right along with him as I sit on the edge of my seat. Bravo.
I don’t know why people are so upset at the videographer. For me he’s a hero. Despite being partially blind and having no depth perception, he battled his handicaps and achieved his lifelong dream of becoming a professional video artist. I praise him for his courage and determination, just like the deaf South African multi-lingual interpreter, the paraplegic Australian firefighting team, and the spastic cross-eyed wannabe surgeon who almost sent my father to heaven.
Even if the editing was bad this shouldn’t be free to watch this man had such powerful emotion in each movement he made from his tips of his fingers to the elongated developes. His moves were really really impressive and his height in the air was unbelievable. This was a really nice I loved every second of it.
The feeling in this performance is the best I’ve seen in a while. The execution of the moves was , no words could describe them. Loved every minute. Men are wonderful dancers! ❤️
this coreography is legend! before this when i thought of ballet the dance of the little swans from swan lake used to cross my mind as emblematic routine of ballet, but now only this one corsses my mind. it is so beautiful i cannot get over it
Oh my God, such a great performance. No one can do it better. He has the ultimate talents to dance like this. I really thank my Father, the Lord, to gave him these talents. Thanks Dad, I enjoy it so very much
So powerful and moving Sergei!! I am a dancer and getting my Masters so haven't been able to take class. You inspire me! Finish school in two weeks and can't wait to get back in the studio. Please keep dancing - you are an amazing artist! I listened to one of your interviews and you are a beautiful person inside and out!!
I am shocked by the number of negative comments about this video. Beautifully danced. Perfectly choreographed. Well filmed. The dancer’s facial expressions are as much a part of the dance as his body movements. When my son explained to me what this song was about it broke my heart. This dancer has expressed that perfectly. Well done
Alma Kali. Sergei has a cross tattooed on the inside of his right-hand wrist. The guy dances but he has lots of stuff going around in his head. He 'dances' with his face. Can you do that? 'Dance' with your face, I mean?
Don't let any comments distract you from enjoying this awesome mans performance. I am grateful for being able to watch a minute of the passion and talent he has. I am truly grateful It would be a Dream to be able to pay to see him live ♥️♥️♥️
Beautiful lines, incredible technique, arguably one of the best ever, yeah yeah yeah of course...But has anyone else noticed that he is also ridiculously hot lol *Swoon*
Tried to get tickets to the Tokyo screening of Dancer and Sergei dancing "Take Me To Church" live, sold out in less than 5 minutes. Guess I'll be watching this on endless replay instead....
There are no words. This choreography & use of the music... is so inspiring. This song echoes in my mind but I know there is eternal life inspiration here. So blessed to see God’s great beauty here!
Oh Sergei! What incredible body control, grace and deepest feeling! My mother was a stage dancer and studied at the Palucca School in Dresden. I know how much power and energy you have😘😘😘 Bravo!!!
To everyone saying this is ballet: it's actually lyrical. Different shoes, different emphasis within the performance, and a lot more emotion, while ballet focuses more on the technical aspects and making it look pretty. Lyrical is pure emotions, which this man has managed to capture quite well.
Damn, I know nothing about ballet but this guy made it exciting to watch, Great choice in music too. I just wonder how in the world does one get through such a physically demanding performance and still look put together at the end,
Well actually this isn’t ballet it’s lyrical/contemporary. Ballet is really sharp and precise, also you never get on the floor in ballet unless your kneeling which has to be done a certain way.
He just looks weightless on those jumps and turns. He's a crazy beautiful dancer.
I thought he looked heavier than he normally does. Thought maybe it was video of a rehearsal.
It's just a rubber band with skin
I thought he was a little wobbly at times, not so powerful performance for me. But it's just for me. I respect your impression.
Game Bros
BAD!
I agree.
Man: *Does amazing series of turns*
Videographer:Lets zoom in on his face”
Wtf
S M ikr. You can tell when to person that is recording knows dance.
S M ...I know I was like..back off!! Back off!!!🙄
The thing is they obviously had a wide and a close. So an editor made the conscious choice to cut to close... sad
S M have a look on his on channel and watch the video of take me to church video. I have never seen anything as beautiful ❤️❤️❤️
So busy trying to see what the tattoos were about, missed most of the dancing. But will rewatch
Videographer has several cameras set up everywhere. This is the video editor’s fault. Unless they’re the same person

@@kasiyaya thank you!
@@kasiyaya thank you!!!! you are right, much better!!!
Pro tip;
People tend to like it better when they can see the full dance
Marin Jensen good point. Positive review. Good on you.
Marin Jensen they should have used more‘medium shots’ close enough to see the dynamics, far enough to capture choreo.
I agree. The way it was meant to be seen. As if you have the best seat in the theater.
I love the way it is done, mixing close and far shots.
I came here to say just that. There were jumps that were split between close up and far away and I missed the impact of the jump. In my opinion, the videography was really poorly done.
videographer you had one job
It's like following a fish ..
Yeah the editor mainly. I doubt a videographer can change shot every half a second. The editor decided to build the clip like this. And yes, it's painful
I've never been so frustrated at a videographer. You don't shoot close-ups in ballet. We need to see the whole body.
Amber Huey he's worth the close up :)
face expressions and emotive gestures... is a great part of his no just ballet dance
But in general, dance is about being able to capture the movements of the body, and they work to create an experience of witnessing that. If you want to see good facial expressions, hire an actor.
I agree, I'd say use multiple shots but at the same distance
This is also how lighting engineers feel whilst watching live concert footage! Those moments in a Pink Floyd show on the big twang during "Comfortably Numb", and the whole rig goes wild, the pyro crew detonate hundreds of charges...and the video director cuts to a closeup of the guitar or Gilmour's grimacing face! Too many annoying close-ups when he's dancing.
Just as well because every now and then those tights make it look like he hasn't got anything on.
I didn't notice that. Did you not notice what a great dancer he is?
