The rest of the audience were super lame, but Steve Martin was laughing and enjoying every second and that's what matters most.
Actors are very self conscious people, believe it or not. it was a formal event, so they were restrained.

Martin Short managed to make me laugh and cry in the same speech. His comments at the end were as sweet as it gets

Ever since I saw The Three Amigos, I have loved Martin Short- he is as quick and smart as a whip. Possibly the best blend of Hollywood insider, positivity, sarcasm, and dry wit. A real professional- his preparation and presentation is faultless. He makes it look easy but smoothness and lines like that are genius.

Martin Short teaching a Master Class on Comedy Timing, this man is incredible !!! And then in the last minute of his disertation he acknowledges how Steve was there for Martin and his children when he lost his wife Nancy to cancer in 2010.
Every now an then we get a comedy duo that creates a bond that last through time.
Abbott and Costello, Laurel and Hardy, Harvey Corman and Tim Conway, Martin and Short.

Short is absolutely hysterical; I was roaring at most of his remarks. What particularly resonated was his comment that the Governor's Award is one of the most prestigious that an actor can receive from the Academy in mid-November. It is a total embarrassment that career achievement awards which were traditionally presented during the Oscar ceremony in Feb/March are now relegated to this truncated ceremony months earlier, which diminishes their importance. Why not hand out the Oscars for Best Director, Screenwriter, Cinematographer, Set Designer, Composer, etc. in the theater parking lot before the show and have Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber perform their greatest hits? Not an appropriate recognition of the honorees' artistic contributions to films? The Academy could care less.
I agree completely. Huge blemish on the Academy that they have so chosen to diminish & marginalize their own glorious heritage. SHAME ON YOU OSCAR!!!
