@runny The slow version is the original to me. I bought the CD of Dusk and Summer when it first came out and this was the version that was on it. Then a radio edit/faster version was released.

I actually thought I was going crazy listening to the "original" version, I felt like it was crazy sped up!
this is actually the original version! I bought the cd the week it released and this is the version that was on it, that I listened to endlessly and ripped to my iPod. apparently it was sped up for radio play (and the music video uses that audio). I also thought I was going crazy when I switched to streaming and only heard the single version. "why am I remembering this song's tempo as being slower, and why is this the only song I'm remembering at a different tempo?"

I'll never forget this in scrubs - 'It should have been me.' it always kills me, this song is for people with broken hearts for sure.
The faster version was the one we all heard on Scrubs (don't question me about Scrubs, seriously you'll lose) but I think both versions have their own elements that completely change the feel of the song.

This song holds so many memories in it and every time I listen to it the memories run through my mind like a movie. And then it feels like I'm listening to this song the first time and it's hard to believe that it was released SO many years ago. But then again, some songs stay ageless and this is one of them.

I remember watchinf FUSE TV and they'd advertise the the Dusk and Summer CD and play the shorter/faster version of Stolen. It's the only version I've ever known as a Dashboard fan since ~2002.
Nvm. Slow version is also the album version from Dusk and Summer. Fast version must have been for the video.

This is false. I bought "Dusk & Summer" the day it originally released in 2006. It featured the much slower version from the very beginning.
DBC then created a radio edited version, which is the much faster one that it seems more casual fans are accustomed to. In order to get more plays of the track on the radio they sped it up significantly. This sped up version also translated to the video for the same reason.
Since a lot of people never bought the original album, and constantly heard the song on the radio, they actually believed it was the original (and apparently still do😂)
DBC then re-released "Dusk & Summer" with the much faster version on the disc. Most streaming apps (Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal) only have the faster version because it's the only version the record label has cleared.
Trust me, the Slower Version is the original. My best friend & I used to laugh at the radio edit because of his ridiculous it sounds. It doesn't even sound like it was recorded in that speed, it's literally the original sped up to about 1.5X. Even his long singing runs are cut short prematurely.

I've always thought that the slow one was the original, but the fast version had me confused because the slower version was always labeled as "slow version" when I would be looking for it anywhere to get it right. Since the slow one was always tagged while the other one wasn't, I came to that conclusion. hahaha! On that note, though, it should be the other way around since the slow one was the original.
Slow version is more natural and it has more emotion. You can really feel the song.
This song takes me back to my early middle school years, when VH1 and MTV used to actually play decent music every morning before I went to school instead of crappy reality tv shows and teen dramas.
Actually, I enjoy both versions equally. Just a great song, no matter how it's executed.
Wow hearing this song some months ago when still madly in love(?) with someone, the song felt so dreamy and sweet and such.. and now that I'm not that much into love anymore I find this song have different resonances now, it's like the song does not feel as strong or as sweet. How our hormones magnify our feelings.
