How fast can Jimmy walk the Nordshcleiffe. Find out next week when he walks the entire distance wearing his VR headset.
zicada I'm betting he can do a 3:27:54.972
Average waling speed is 5 km/h, track is close to 20 kilometres. So he will do sonething 4 hour-ish
Cake Doge with elevation add at least 30 mins
LOL
That is an indeed very creative way to write "Nordschleife"
Mazda said in a documentary that they still use the same engine in the car as they did at Le Mans when they bring her out for some shows. How cool is that?
repcsi wow that’s awesome! A real piece of history right there and it shows how reliable that Rotary engine ended up being!
In race tunes, Wankel engines are very reliable. They can premix good 2 stroke type oil in the fuel, which keeps the apex seals lubricated. The lack of reciprocating internal parts means constant high rpm use does not cause excess wear, though going too high can lead to apex seal chatter and housing wear as they bounce over the lobes in the housing. I am curious how much of he current engine is the original race winning engine. Wankel engines have a bad reputation of needing rebuilds, but they are also quite simple to rebuild. Think of the Wankel like a Dagwood sandwich. Outside housing, rotor housing with rotor, internal housing, etc etc etc outside housing. The "block" is actually a stack of different parts. You replace any parts that are beyond usable spec.. you don't replace the entire "block" since it doesn't have one big block like a normal piston engine. FWIW, I had an RX7 and RX8- almost 20 years ownership combined. They are great fun to wring out daily but also need proper maintenance/care to last a reasonable amount of time between rebuilds.
But are the apex seals as old as the car itself? 🧐
@@fatbor2078 are the rings of a piston motor the original after racing? Are the valves the same? Are the belts and timing chains the same? Every motor has its points that need replacing.
@@domesticterroristAtari dont be a jackass
The 787B was tuned for reliability hence why it was running 700 hp @ 9000 rpm. They said after the race was done and the engine was inspected that it could have run another 24 hours no problem. The engine was capable of 930 hp @ 11000 rpm but they purposely limited it to 9000 rpm. It potentially could have run 24 hours at a higher horsepower level which would have meant even more domination!
i think they had a gearbox from porsche and it couldn't take the full power so that's why they ran it with 700hp... not 100% sure tho..
you're not allowed to run a qualifying spec car during race, the lap times show it was slower than most of the other things on the field
Xerro No Vatimo slower means very little in an endurance race as Porsche has shown Toyota the past few years.
they were also less reliable than the competition before everyone got hit with regulations, the gap in lap times is also bigger than most people think
ASoldierify but have you seen Toyota's luck? No wonder Porsche keep taking pole
"my guy's resting his hand on the bloomin gear shifter like an absolute baller"
this is why I love his channel
While scrolling down the comments I was hoping that someone commented about that. Cheers mate
I love how the driver animation puts his hand on the shift lever when you get close to redline. THAT is a great way to make that part of the sim feel realistic!
I wish it was like that in the Gran Turismo 7 cockpit view. It annoys me when most of the time the driver’s hand just sits on the shifter when it doesn’t have to be.
Everyone else: Haha, you can't possibly make a reliable rotary engine for an endurance race.
Mazda: Hold my doritos.
Also congrats on the 80k Jimmy!
Fallen Maniac lol
Mazda has done it more then once to. the 757 the 767 and the 787 as well as the IMSA GTO Rx7
In fact it was so good that they banned the rotary engine after this race because it made so much more speed with such a small amount of cc
I wonder what would happen if they made a reliable rotary the size of the other competitors engines.
Fallen Maniac for street use or racecars
You’d make a great F1 commentator lol
Xarcotikz He has the right pitch and he is so excited that he would be perfect for commentating
Him and super gt
lol_commentating while racing_so intense
Actually that's insane. I wouldn't be able to comment while racing. I would just leave a comment after racing and then put it on the final clip. How focused he would have been on real race without talking.
@@EvanMoon and the british accent too
wasn't the fastest car on the grind but as toyota will tell you le mans is 24 hours... not 1, not, 7 not 23h 55min. 24h. faster cars failed to make it to the end, simple as that.
Yea the 787b isn't at its full power
Not so much that they didn't make it to the end, more that they lost too much time repairing stuff. If they could get away with it. Even with pit crew speed, it's faster overall if you don't need to fix anything
Yea, Toyota told you that.
ik this is 4 years old but i bet it could be one of the fastest cars on the track if they had a different gear box coupled with the 930hp it could have done. Since the engine was the most reliable part of the car. If the engine actually was able to do another 24h race unlike many of the other car's engines, then Mazda was definitely limiting it with what it could have done.
One of the best sounding race cars ever, and definitely one of the top ten best sounding prototypes on my list. This car sparked my interest in race cars (because of Gran Turismo) and I’ve only gotten more obsessed with them because of it.
just curious, which prototypes sound better you reckon?
DieterS. The Sauber C9 is probably one of them. The 919 also sounds beautiful.
DieterS. The Jaguar XJR-9 because of a screaming V12 and the current LMP2’s because of the combination of how they accelerate through the gears and decelerate with a ton of turbo anti-lag.
Agreed on the sound. I was lucky enough to hear it run in person at Laguna Seca a few years back.
Nobody liked it back then. It’s become this silly internet legend.
That quad rotor REEEE
Nasty Pasty normie
Where is the four rotor Rob? Ouch...
Alejandro Aznar lulz
i mean its working now
Alejandro Aznar making 1000+ hp :)
jtfoog got pop up headlights now
Flat bottom car now
You're downshifting and rev match look great! However, the 787B doesn't need it. The locked transmission allowed the car to automatically match the revs when downshifting, which was one of the beauties of the car and saved more gas in the race. The car itself was a true marvel and legend for its time. Great Driving!
The 787B had better reliability, but it also had a weight advantage over the other Group C cars (something like 50-100kg) as well as a fuel advantage.
Rotaries are anything but fuel efficient, so I'd imagine so.
Make that 200-300 KGs, the 787B was ridiculously low weight compared to it's competitors on that race. In fact, the 787B is the reason FIA banned anything with less than 1.000 KGs of weight from Le Mans from what I heard.
But yes, it was by far the most reliable car on that race (much to the dismay of all the "lolololol rotaries are unreliable" folks), the fact the engine was still brand-sparklingly new when they disassembled the car post-race is an unique reliability achievement on it's own... but it wasn't fuel efficent at all. it drank more gas than your average finn drinks alcohol in the podium of WRC or F1 races, but the compensation came in form of the tires lasting much longer than it's competitors, resulting in less stops.
For reference, in an interview with Isami Amemiya (Founder of RE Amemiya, legendary tuner of RE cars) here in CZcams, Amemiya-san talks a bit about the days they raced in the GT300 class of JGTC/Super GT with a N/A 3-Rotor RX-7 FD3S. Ama-San mentions the car had the same fuel consumption of higher-class GT500 cars which was a drawback, but in compensation, they could go sometimes entire races without exchanging tires on the car, They won the GT300 championship title in 2006 with that RX-7.
So while they aren't "fuel efficient", they are very efficient in performance and tire consumption.
Wulfe tires is what eats up lap time and pit stops in an endurance race
The weight advantage comes from how light the engine was and because they didn’t make a lot of torque so you could lighten the drivetrain significantly
The reason car 55 won is because they knew they were the slowest car, so the team told the drivers to just go all out. Running fast laps the whole race, they were faster than the competition who were being gentle with their cars, and the car was reliable enough to take it for 24 hours.
@@coast2coast00 The other reason being that the leading Mercedes broke down. The 787b was a mid-pack car at best, its win at Le Mans was a fluke, and neither it nor its predecessors won any other race.
Incoming REEEEs
(also using second gear, I see)
I paused Monty Python and the Holy Grail for this. Worth it
didnt expect you here
Always around here
You can come and race the 906 on AC as well as Forza mate :-)
African or european?
These are the sort of things you have to know when your a king
Dude this was splendid! I absolutely loved this!
Love the Sound of that 787B. Great lap Jimmy. Keep em coming!
Love these videos. How you manage to commentate and drive (bloody fast) at the same time is amazing...
I waited so long for this video. Thank you Jimmer!
This car is an absolute beast. Excellent drive Jimmy, as always!
I've just found your channel ofc subbed. I like the way you present the tracks and talk about the cars. Good job mate.
Thanks to this video, i went back and rewatched the 20th year anniversary run Mazda did with Johnny Hubert just for that rotary noise.
Please drive the Audi e-tron Vision Gran Turismo on the Nordschleife!
Damn those are some cleeeeeean heel toe downshifts. nice job mate 👍🏻
What a treat for the senses. Thank you Jimmer!
80k? Damn.. I was here back when you had 8k subs.. Congrats!
Love the enthousiastic commentary :) Nice run
The legendary dorito spinning MACHINE
First time on this channel, and I have to say: man, it's impressive how fast you can drive the car. I guess VR and a good setup help a lot.
The sound of the car is exquisite, love this car!
Love this legendary model and its matchless sound.
He would make a great f1 commentator
It's amazing how Jimmy can give a play-by-play and still drive at the same time.
I only learned this recently that the 787B had a locked differential for longevity reasons as if the axel snapped they could limp it back to the pits and fix it. Explains the amount of low speed oversteer
ALL THE REEEEE'S
Sam Crumpton Normie
1440p? Awesome, idk if you have this for other videos but nice to see a video quality bump :)
Best sounding car.
Reminds me of my struggle to drive the 787B around the Nordschleife in Enthusia, haha.
Very fun video!
Enjoyed that. Fantastic commentary even by your usual high standards too.
Great vid, great car, great lap and best sound
Phenomenal video Jimmy
I love this car Jimmy. It would be really awesome if they would bring it back in GT: Sport....I miss this car
another great lap Jimmy Boiii
I gotta say - your commentary is fantastic. Considering that you are actually concentrating on driving at the same time. I could've not possibly read it out as fast from a script Oo
The 787B is sick! Back when i was a kid i was a big fan of Group C. This car came out for GP Miami when i was 16 and i had pit area passes. I ended up getting a good long look at a lot of the details of this car, as well as seeing and hearing it start and run. Unfortunately i only got to see it run for a few laps before an engine fire broke out and team Mazda DNF'd, but it was definitely a cool thing to see. IRL it sounded absolutely INSANE. Probably my second favorite Group C car after Nissan.
I am always equally interested in Jimmy's commentary as what ever hes driving. Couldn't do it if I tried
This is one of my favorite classic race cars along with the legendary Audi Sport Quattro S1
Damn amazing skills. Just starting out with my first wheel n pedals setup and can't imagine getting around like this.
Without a doubt you have gotten quicker Jimmy. I can easily tell the difference between now and just a few weeks ago.
jezus christ, your downshifting on the footcam is crazy good
amazin footwork m8
Every time I see the lap time board on one of these Nordschleife vids I'm always astounded at how fast that Ford Transit did it.
Big Sabine
Request: Add the BAC Mono (in PCars 2) to your list!
3 years ago 80k subscriptions... now almost 750k... some growth that!
Jimmer, you have officially made my fucking day.
I would love to see a playlist with all the nordshleife challenges, so I can easily find the ones I am missing. :)
Mazda trying to win Le Mans: "have we tried putting another rotary engine in it?"
Absolutely legendary car and sound.
I remember being always at the back of this car in Grand turismo 3 on ps2..
So huge racing skills. You could be an awesome car tester in Nordschleife
Omg I love both the Nürburgring Nordschleife and the 26b 4 Rotor Legend 😍
The Brapmobile hehe. Had to sub, keep finding myself watching your vids so its only fair. Also whats the mix called you use at the end credits? Its cool, never heard that version before. Ever drive the Evo Triangle? my second fav track after Nordschlife.
BRAPAPAPAPAPAPAPAPAPAPAPA
Once you hear the Zoidberg downshift, you can never unhear it.
The best thing about it is that when the tore down the engine to look at it, they found out that it could go for another 24 hours with no problems. The only issues it had were fuel use and oil use. I MUCH prefer the R92CP since that's my favorite race car of all time, but damn is the 787B a great race car. I wish LMP cars were still this crazy and cool.
Yup. Engine was as fresh as a daisy after 24 Hours!
Dude that comentary is so good. Also the 4 rotor had carbon fiber apex seals thats y none of them failed
Great video!!!
We were all waiting for this weren't We? 10/10 for Primary Randolf reference.
Good job driving
Hah hah!! Props to you man... not too many people I know could drive this monster and have a full running commentary at the same time! That was hilarious!!🤣 I'd be too busy biting my lower lip trying to keep it going in a straight line (or around corners), to worry about talking.😉👍
Wow how do you race and commentate like a pro at the same time? Skills
Love driving that road course but im still cherry with it not good at times yet. Myself im a watkins glen f1 fan. Love that track. Use to go there years ago and watch the f1 races. Driving around there sure brings back memories. I am also using the oculus vr. You cant beat vr for racing.
You sound like you could be commentating on the bathurt 24h :P
Also, your heel+toe is years better than I can ever hope to be.
Back in ~2002 I dominated GT3 A-spec once I got access to this monster.
BTW this car has got to have the most brutal idle symphony of any car outthere bar none! Hell it even sounds mean as hell cranking over
For the glorious sound only this is worth it
Good lap!
I saw the original cars each year they were at Le Mans... Rather marvellous machines!! :)
Fucking love your stuff man! Here since 7k ❤️
Have u ever considered about doing commentaries for sports event? I mean, thats one hell of passion my man
Amazing! I don't know how you did that, but I just hate driving that car around the Nordschleife, it slides and spins so damn fast
The 787B just in general seems to be the faster car in AC. Probably some BoP shenanigans going on.
Thought I might watch this video again for a retrospective review. That rotary is a very busy unit, as I can attest, having driven it loads of times on Forza 7 - I said, THAT ROTARY IS A VERY BUSY UNIT... oh, you heard first time. Of course, the real reason why it won Le Mans was due to the installation of a crucial element that made the difference to this car, namely a Johnny Herbert.
787B is a damn classic #respect
That damn wiper blade
The engine sound is about three octaves lower than the real thing! Nothing quite like hearing that wonderful car going full chat down the Mulsanne. An absolutely epic experience.
Greatest sounding race car, ever!
You 100% should be a racing announcer. very entertaining.
Great video! Only critique was the music was a little loud while you were talking in the beginning
@1:08 Apex seals, reliability, mom mom mom. :D
@1:21 They went the save route, no turbo, no "balls to the wall" power output, that made the whole creation reliable enough. Let alone that racing engines are usually made to the highest quality standards.
renault has left the chat
sheeeeesh that car is a monster
I really like this car ! I have on Gran Turismo 6 !
Hey Jim do you know what that squeaking noise is that you hear when you drive the car? My first time driving the 787b I thought my wheel was broken lol
I'm still amazed how much of a cult following this car has, it was slow obnoxiously loud and usually problematic but on this one day in 1991 in France it was only car that lasted and won and it and a short shouty brit became famous with cult following lol.. Gold. Fyi love a Johnny
Those brits sure do love their motorsports!
Got that orange and lime look going
and the cut along the dotted line livery.
I finally bought RX-8 after 10 years. There's something special about rotaries. Still the best thing i ever bought :)
Do you ever do any blooper vids showing spins thrills and spills?
I was 8 and it was amazing watching what this car did at le Mans.
Fastest I ever did this in this car was the tourist section in 5.59 and usually 6.03/6.05 regularly. One of my favourite cars in AC
For better result, my first gear is set to 170, 180km/ and move the other closer of the last gear. Is hard to star but is more controlable on acceleration at low speed
Loved it!
DAMN almost 3 years ago Jimmy had 80k subs? Now he has 630k! Thats insane
