A combination of very pleasing and very engaging music. I feel smarter and more culturally diverse just by listening to it. Thanks for keeping it real Greybeard. 👍👍

There is a connection between Premiata Forneria Marconi and King Crimson. Both bands sang lyrics written by Pete Sinfield early in their respective discographies. An English language version of PFM's L'Isola album is called The World Became The World. More outstanding picks by Greybeard, and another great reaction by Nick..what else is new. Love it!!

Per comporre "La luna nuova" bisognava avere una conoscenza della musica più che solida.
Sono felice che la PFM ci ha regalato il migliore rock progressivo (italiano). Ancora oggi è così.

I know that PFM track as Four Holes In The Ground from The World Became The World (1974) and it’s not only sung in English but they are completely different recordings too. So when I saw them live in Sacramento when they opened for Dave Mason, they kicked off the show with Four Holes In The Ground and you can hear that in PFM-Cook (live)
It’s a great thing having the first 3 albums available in 2 completely different formats. On Manticore they released 3 English versions:
    Photos Of Ghosts
    The World Became The World
    Chocolate Kings
The first album is Italian only but some songs are used for Photos Of Ghosts but again different.

Wow PFM! Cool enough! Celebration! I saw them in '74 with ELP and 250k prog and rock fans squeezed like sardines into the Charlotte Motor Speedway. "August Jam". A few months after the "California Jam". (Mini-Woodstocks) They were as good as ELP, and better than every other band who played. All the other music will be a brand-new experience for the mind's ear. Let's go listen... Oh fantastic! Even better than Celebration! I'm pretty sure they played that in Charlotte and people digging the hell out of it. And like so much of this marathon, it is of a positive and uplifting vibration, like much of prog, and most of new age...which is why many protoproggers were attracted to new age...knowing well that the music affects the soul and the soul affects the music. A golden age will have golden music. Love this new ethnomusicological direction. Superb marathon Greybeard.

@@greybeard2280 I know you will. They are like a reincarnation of a couple I knew in the '70s who would host groovy parties with great music, snacks, the Cuevero Gold, and the fine Columbian. Although it was usually Rhine wines instead of beer. Love yer marathons!

Glad you were able to listen to some PFM. I really liked their earliest albums. I recently came across another Italian prog group that I think you'd like. Check out Barock Project. "Happy to See You" is amazing. I hear elements of ELP, Gentle Giant, and on a couple of other cuts, strong influences of Jethro Tull.

PFM were signed in the UK to ELPs Manticore label in the 70s. I first became aware of them through the wonderful live album “Cook” (released in the US as Live in USA). The first UK release “Photos of Ghosts” is also excellent, particularly the tracks River of Live and Old Rain. I was fortunate to see them live on the UK leg of the “Chocolate Kings” tour in a smaller venue, my friends and I being only about 12ft from the front of the stage.

Great quality, great musicians, great songs. I'm a French big fan of Kansas & Rush and for me, the first record of PFM "Storia di un minuto" Is there best album.
Sorry for m'y bad English. Best regards.
Ps : in France we have a really good prog. Band (genesis like) named :
ANGE. You can try to listen "reveille toi" Or "capitaine coeur de miel".

I dont understand this. Isnt music part of all of us. Why do we have to divide it into multi-cultural BS. Music affects us all differently. I might love mariachi music and live in the US but a guy in mexico city hates it. Music crosses all cultures and boundaries. Music affects animals as well. Let's leave music out of this. Music is amazing and Nick and Lex do an awesome job reacting and enjoying music with us.

Hi Nick, this is like .. Spot the influences ? and that was just the 1st track. Lol It's really good. I enjoyed track by Aquelarre but I felt whoever did the mixing, added too much treble to sound. If I had that album I would turn my treble down very low. Lol ... Loved Cusco....Here in England where I lived in Blackpool about 10 years ago, during the Summer season, there were street musicians in the town center, in Indian dress, I believe from Nepal, and playing Pan Pipes, along with other instruments, inc' synths, and they were also selling cd's of their music. They called themselves "Tatanka" I have 2 cd's by them because they returned the following season. It's just lovely relaxing music. [ and within 20 seconds of me writing, Nick says it's very relaxing. Lol ] I really should wait instead of typing while still listening .. but then I can forget what I wanted to say. Besides ... Great minds think alike, so I'm happy ! 😀👍 eh Nick ? ..... Omg ! ..... Get cd's of Relax in the Andies ! 😲Nick !!! 😂 I'm cracking up here. I got 2 hard to find cd's. Last track... just started ... & I'm scared to say ...Genesis intro - "Blood on the Rooftops" ! ... [ I think I may have got away with that one ? 🤪] The flutes make me think of fairies dancing around a maypole. That was a good marathon. Nice to hear all these different cultures. Thankyou. I had Italian recordings of the first two albums, "Storia di un minuto" and "Per un amico", When Photos of Ghosts was released on Manticore records (with the help of Keith Emerson) is was mostly re-ecordings of songs from "Per un amico" with new lyrics (not translations) written by Pete Sinfield. I preferred the Italian versions.
