Rich, if you think the pitch clock is great, wait til you see the strike zone review that baseball is implementing in the minors... It's amazing. It's quick, like a 10 second review, & it works really well, like it helps umps adjust in game.
I saw a minor league game a couple weeks back. In the 1st 2 innings, there were 6 reviews, 4 were overturned. But over the next 7 innings, there were only 7 reviews & the ump was right 5 times. It seemed like the reviews showed the ump where he was missing early on, he adjusted & did a much better job the rest of the game.
The only downside to Angel retiring now is that he won't get shown up in-game by the reviews.

Imo, implementing the strike zone review is overkill and I consider myself Pro Change, I'm 27 played the game growing up and think it needs to continue to evolve to become a better product. However, bad calls are just part of the game, both sides have to deal with human error. The only way I would support it is if they implement it as a challenge system like Football and each team gets x amount of challenges a game

@@spoooky21 for the AAA games I watch, we have three weekday games that are called by ABS and weekend games that feature ball/strike challenges. Each team has three challenges per game where every challenge they get wrong, they lose it. Only pitchers, catchers, or batters can challenge a ball/strike call

    • @d.a.baracus1438

@@spoooky21 I was skeptical about the strike zone review too before I saw it in action, but honestly, it's great. As mentioned, it's super quick, like 10 seconds, so it doesn't affect the pace of the game. Also, it adds some excitement to the game b/c the review is conducted openly on the big screen.
Pitch is throw. Ump makes the call. A player signals to the ump that he's challenging the call. The ump turns his mic on & announces "the pitcher/batter/catcher is challenging the call."
Then immediately, the strike zone review is put up on the big screen & a video graphic shows where the pitch was, & the crowd reacts in real-time. It was actually quite fun.
And as mentioned it doesn't happen all that often, esp. later on in the game as the ump adjusts his strike zone to the correct strike zone...

The solution to improving offense is to stop teaching hitters to only try to hit homeruns...teach them to hit like they used to. Learn to get hits...learn to hit against a shift...learn to hit for average. Learn situational hitting...dont just hit a home run or steike out

Feeling bad for Angel Hernandez is RIDICULOUS! We are all expected to do our jobs well, and would be fired if we performed like him!
His absolute arrogance while performing terribly, makes HIM responsible for his own incoming vitriol. Stop apologizing for calling him out on his nonsense!

    • @lynnerose7891
      @lynnerose7891 Před měsícem

If you want to believe that, greet. It’s not true though bc he clearly got far more calls correct than he got wrong. If you want to pretend he didn’t go his job well just bc you don’t know baseball that is cool. But if you performed as well as his did most of the time, you would never fear for your job.
It was his arrogance that cost him his job, bc absolutely nobody I’d perfect but he pretended he was infallible.

Rich, diehard fan here. All the angel Hernandez coverage has rubbed me the wrong way. The guy sucked at his job. It is literally in court documents that he was incompetent. The guy just retired. Why are you rubbing it in on a national stage? Seems like it is just for clicks at the expense of this guy.

Debbie Downer, here. Still don't like the pitch clock. I have no issue spending 3-3.5 hours at a ballpark or dedicating an evening to watching a game. And in a week where 2 more pitchers are undergoing Tommy John (yes, i know there's a generational problem with how young pitchers are taught to throw), it is weird to be so happily applauding a reform that has sped up the conveyor belt sending these guys' into the meat-grinder.

Angel is not the best umpire, but also not the worst. The problem is that he built a hole so big, that every transgression (even minor) became a virtual firestorm. As humans, we attach to personalities and Angel became the personification of exaggerated authoritarian incompetence, and umpires are always a cheap and easy target. Of course, the whole Angel matter was exacerbated when he sued baseball; claiming victimhood and racism, as it drew attention to him specifically and our modern sense of entitlement, extortion, and tolerated BS in general. It's really too bad that people hold our sports players and officials to such a high standard and our elected representatives to such low accountability.

I FREAKIN HATE this video! Because everybody not named Chris is absolutely wrong! ESPECIALLY Jeff Passan who I have the upmost respect for. This man (Angel Hernandez) is affecting the outcome of games because of his incompetence. If someone is definitively bad at what they do, any and everybody has the right to call them on it if WHEN IT’S Literally dictating outcomes. So I don’t like the “we feel sorry for this guy” Speeches when he’s finally relieved of his duties. You’re not gonna feel sorry for me if you order a Big Mac and you get one patty instead of two. You gonna come back through that drive-through angry as hell and want me fired! 💯.
