    This is the first video I've seen of someone cleaning gar the way I do. We've tried 3 dozen ways to clean em as we tend to get a lot of em bowfishing and this is my favorite way.

    I will have to try tacos. I've eaten gar fried, baked, and stewed in gravies. One of my favorite fish.

    That meat looks really good ! You made cleaning that gar look easy . I was always told if you catch a gar to kill it and leave it on the bank lol .

      Aaric Hale Yes! It’s unreal how much good meat goes to waste every year because of lack of knowledge!

    That fillet looks wonderful, the gar is a weird fish it looks like a cross between and eel and crocodile with its snout.

    You ought to have the boys make their own rope lures and fish for gar. They will have a blast. CZcams has videos on how to make them. I enjoyed Richard Genes' on that subject.

    We use the cotton string off feed sacks to wrap them

    Gar eggs are unbelievable catfish bait we use them in early spring catfish follow the gar up the river on their spawn run . Same with spoonbills

    If you look at feed sack string its 3 strands separate them use single strand

    • @chadrexwinkle7868
      @chadrexwinkle7868 Před 2 lety +1

      The string works for spun chicken blood too also great fish bait

      @@chadrexwinkle7868 I might just load up my boat and come run a trot line or two this spring. My dad fished the Neosho river back in the 60s……. I’ve wanted to do that all my life! He was doing it around Humbolt or Chanute…….. I can’t remember exactly.

    I had heard that gar were not good to eat, but when a friend caught one I just hated to see it go to waste. (I had seen people catch them, break their snout, or upper jaw, and they're then back before.). So I cleaned and cooked it and really liked it. And I've caught, cleaned and cooked several since then.
